During the Funeral Mass for Fr. Mike Crisostomo, Archbishop Jimenez interrupted the Mass at the Offertory, walked right past Fr. Mike's family in the front row of the Cathedral, and shook hands with Lou and Josh (Guam's governor and lieutenant governor).
There were many who thought his actions odd, if not disrespectful, given that this was a Funeral Mass for one of our own priests, and an occasion of much grief, not just for his family, but for all of us in the Archdiocese of Agana.
Many were willing to give Jimenez the benefit of the doubt for that actioin. Maybe he was just being friendly. However, there were some who thought he was campaigning.
Apparently he was.
Seriously. Blessing an event is one thing, even though blessing a campaign rally is already stretching it. But walking the sidewalk? Joining in the wave? WHAT THE HELL?
Jimenez is showing us who we thought he was:
Another Apuron.

Doesn’t our bishop realize we can’t vote him in office…OR OUT!
ReplyDeleteWhy is he campaigning for Josh and Tina?
At every mass I go to I’m asked to pray for an end to abortion, euthanasia, and capital punishment. I wonder if the bishop asked them where they stood on these issues. And if on the wrong side of moral justice, why didn’t he ask them to public ally change their stance before he would bless the campaign HQ?
Terrible image for the Church, Archbishop Ryan. It’s time for you to start thinking of the people before thinking of yourself and your need for recognition from the rich, and the powerful.
It appears he's been bought, and it was inexpensive.
DeleteThe ambitions of our Church leaders has been hurting our Church for years. We need a strong bishop who is truly committed to the people and not his next promotion or a Red Cap. The greed for power and money is very disappointing. A strong leader would put aside his ambitions and focus on all the problems the people in the pews face. And if he were truly strong he would make sure his priests do the same.
ReplyDeleteBut instead of true concern for my spiritual welfare, most priests are concerned more about their next off-island conference, and pandering to their personal benefactors.
Quite disappointing!
And that’s putting it nicely. It’s more than disappointing. It’s absurd, outrageous, and sinful.
DeleteGiven what we have gone through in recent years, the priorities and mission of the local Catholic church must be clear and without compromise. As leader of this local church, the iffy actuation of Jimenez is unacceptable. He does not lead from a moral code but rather from a vanity-fueled show. He makes himself visible in and outside Guam in a costume he does not fit, making him a bloated puffer fish. “#apuronic!”
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty wild no matter what team was supported, but especially so since "Josh and Tina" openly flaunt the Church's teachings with respect to the homosexual lifestyle and procured abortion. Are there any stories like this from his time in Saipan?

DeleteI, too, am disturbed by Archbishop Ryan's presence at "Josh and Tina's" campaign event in the sense that he has not clarified what action he has taken or what counsel he has given them regarding their positions on the pro-choice (pro-abortion) and homosexual lifestyle issues. I expect the archbishop will also be called upon to bless the campaigns of the other gubernatorial candidates. Has he counseled two of these candidates regarding their reported involvement in Freemasonry which is also at odds with Catholic teaching and is condemned by the Church? If these candidates have terminated their membership in this anti-Catholic organization, then the voting public should be made aware of this also. The Catholic Church is so embedded in the culture and the people are owed this information especially by their archbishop who is responsible for their spiritual welfare and who therefore needs to clarify to them and to the politicians themselves the unacceptability (and sinfulness) of voting for candidates so at odds with their Catholic faith. This remains to be seen as the archbishop may just be adhering to the tenets of the new "synodal" Church in which it seems anything goes.
DeleteHe stopped the mass and did not acknowledge the family to shake hands with Josh?
