BECAUSE JOHN'S CLAIMS WERE TRUE

By Tim Rohr

Readers of this blog will be seeing a lot of "old stuff," as I do the research for my upcoming book:

ORCHESTRATED
How a blog and the laity took down an archbishop and exposed the largest clergy sex abuse scandal, per capita, in the whole Catholic world.

At least that's the working title for now.

A critical chapter in the book is devoted to John Toves, the first person to accuse Apuron of sexual abuse, not of himself, but of a relative, a close relative.

Why John chose to make his accusation in 2014 is a big part of the story, but you'll have to wait for the book to find out. Meanwhile, though, Toves never really had to prove his accusation. Apuron functionally admitted his guilt by doing the stupidest things in response.

One of the "stupidest things" was hiring a law firm in California to threaten Toves:

The undersigned has been retained to represent the interests of Archbishop Anthony Apuron of Guam, particularly with respect to the defamatory conduct in which you have recently engaged. This letter serves as a demand to you to immediately cease and desist from making any further defamatory comments or publications against Archbishop Apuron's reputation and character. Your conduct has caused and continues to cause grave harm not only to Archbishop Apuron and the church in Guam but also to the universal Church.

Your comments and published statements that Archbishop Apuron has engaged in unlawful conduct are patently false, and you have made these comments and published these statements with full knowledge of their falsity. Under California law, it is unlawful to engage in defamation of another's character and reputation, and your defamatory conduct subjects you to significant liability.

Accordingly, we demand that you immediately cease and desist your unlawful defamation of Archbishop Apuron. If you do not comply with this demand, Archbishop Apuron will have to pursue all available legal remedies, including seeking monetary damages for harm to his reputation and character, punitive damages, injunctive relief, and an order that you pay court costs and attorney's fees. Your liability and exposure under such legal action will be considerable.

Sincerely,

Michelle R Neal

The letterhead for Michelle R Neal's law firm read: "Employment Law Council," and her law firm was located in Sacramento, California.

We have to wonder if Michelle R. Neal isn't a Neocat. What other reason would Apuron have to retain her to go after John? According to Neal's online bio, she is, in fact, an attorney specializing in employment law in California.

Michelle R Neal, Lawyer in SACRAMENTO, California | Justia Lawyer Directory

Michelle R Neal is a legal professional specializing in employment law. She has been associated with Employment Law Counsel from 2013 to 2022 and is currently employed by Employment Law Counsel, LLP. Her practice includes areas such as wage and hour issues, independent contractor status, federal and state family leave laws, sexual and other prohibited harassment, personnel policies, preventative employment practices, and wage audits and claims.

Not only did Neal have no qualifications to threaten John regarding his claims about Apuron, but she also lacked jurisdiction in Guam. Apuron had his own attorney, the late Edward Terlaje. Why didn't Apuron use Terlaje to threaten John? I know why. Terlaje knew John's claims were true.

By the way, John did not "cease and desist."

WHY I CARE

By Tim Rohr

In HE'S NOT GOING TO TELL US, Anonymous complains that I am making more out of "the incident" than necessary and that the Archbishop's letter closes the matter.

My main contention about "the incident" is not the incident itself - since abuses of all kinds abound in this archdiocese and said "incident" is hardly a blip on the abuse graph - but rather the delay in addressing the incident, a delay which provoked speculation that chancery officials were either delaying in hopes the story would go away, or buying time to figure out how to cover it up.

Even this "delay", on its own, would have been little cause for me to care save for the several years of hell I and others suffered during the Collapse of Apuron.

The fall of Apuron was unthinkable, and he himself liked to proclaim "no one can get me." He was right of course. A bishop is the absolute power in a diocese. He can't be recalled, impeached, voted out, or even "FOIA'd." A bishop has total impunity and immunity.

Thus, as the unthinkable began to be thinkable, and as brick by brick Apuron's neo-clad wall began to crumble, Apuron's gestapo began an all out war on me, and eventually my family. Threats of law suits by Apuron against "Tim Rohr" and accusations of my involvement with a real estate and Chinese gambling conspiracy made local and even international headlines:

"In 2012, a blog called “Jungle Watch” was created online, attacking Archbishop Apuron and the Neocatechumenal Way, accusing them of manipulating the prelate and “colonizing” the entire Agaña diocese. The site is managed by Tim Rohr, a real estate agent employed by Msgr. Benavente and involved in the projected sale of the seminary. The online attacks became more and more violent..." - LA STAMPA

The reason I was singled out was because even though there were many others working behind the scenes, it was this blog where the battle began, a battle which led to a year long picket in front of the Cathedral and calls for Apuron's "defrocking," and ultimately a canonical trial which found Apuron guilty.

It was after the Vatican found Apuron guilty that all hell broke loose. The fall of Apuron's Reich was the fall of a central piece of "Kiko's Kingdom" - Kiko Arguello, the founder and leader of the Neocatechumenal Way which had made massive inroads into the halls of Catholic Church power.

With such power, one might wonder why little Guam mattered. I've spelled this out numerous times, but I'll spell it out again here.

Power in the Catholic Church government, like most governments, is synonymous with numbers: the more supporters the greater the power. In the Catholic Church, numbers = vocations, especially ordained ones. The more priests a bishop has, a religious order has, an organization like the NCW has: the more power.

However, the only way to "get a priest" is for a bishop to ordain him. And while Kiko was successful in recruiting vocations and funneling them into his many seminaries, he still needed bishops to ordain them. For some reason, he had particular success with U.S. Capuchins, namely Sean O'Malley, Charles Chaput, and Anthony Apuron.

However, O'Malley and Chaput appear to have been discerning about who they ordained. Kiko needed a bishop who would ordain who ever Kiko wanted ordained, namely all of them. And that's where Apuron came in. And it is also where the now "defrocked" Adrian Cristobal comes in.

For years, many local Catholics knew that Adrian had designs on succeeding Apuron, and that these designs were more rooted in his competition with - and dislike (to put it mildly) for - some other members of the local clergy than any desire to serve the Church and its flock.

Apparently, this "competition" hearkened back to the days when they were all in seminary together, a competition that was gravely exacerbated when Apuron passed over Adrian for the title of "Monsignor" and conferred it on Adrian's immediate competitors.

Adrian responded by promptly disappearing from Guam for several years, and then returned in 1995 with the Neocatechumenal Way in tow, in the person of a mysterious monk named Pius. Pius moved in with Apuron and the NCW takeover of Guam began.

However, the "takeover" was really Adrian positioning himself, by building a power base, to oust his competitors for the "Chair of Apuron" and coronate himself as Guam's next archbishop. This is why Adrian's Barrigada parish, where he kept himself ensconced as pastor, became, and still is, "Neocat-Central."

Enter John Toves

The late-John Toves, who, in addition to being one of the altar boys at Mt. Carmel in the 1970's when Apuron was helping himself to the bodies of John's friends, Toves, later, was also in the seminary with Adrian and others and knew "what was what."

So when John showed up in 2014 and knocked on the door of the Chancery, it was clear that he scared the hell out of Adrian.

By 2014, when John showed up, Adrian was totally running things and Apuron was pretty much hiding in a closet.

The backstory is this.

Adrian, like just about every other member of Guam's clergy as well as many lay Catholics, knew of Apuron's history of molesting boys. However, Apuron, relying on fear, misplaced respect for his office, and the dirt he had on other clerics, had so consolidated power that no one dared challenge him let alone "out" him.

But the tell-tale heart of Apuron's sordid past never stopped thumping beneath the chancery floorboards.

At first, Apuron put his confidence in "David the Tall" (after sending him to canon law school for many years), to keep him out of trouble should any of the ghosts from Apuron's past appear.

But "David the Tall" was a too thin line of defense, so Apuron was looking for a lot more protection as well as an escape plan if he needed one.

Functionally, protection and escape was what Pius and the neocat machine offered Apuron, and offered it in return for his rubber stamp, a rubber stamp on everything from ordinations to gifting away a mega-million dollar property into their control.

Bottom line for Kiko et. al was that they now had a bishop who would ordain whoever he was told to ordain, including rejects from the other Neocat seminaries.

And this was the path to power for both Adrian - who had local designs on power, and the Neocat generals - who had universal designs on power. And so the Neocat seminary swung into overdrive with locals - believing this was a "Seminary for Guam" - contributing millions. Perfect, the Neocats had a bishop in their control and a funding source: us.

SMEAR Tim Rohr: Object No. 1

So you can see why all hell broke loose when it became obvious around 2016 that Apuron's wall was breeched, and breeched initially by this blog and the tens of thousands of comments. Thus "Tim Rohr" became "Tim Rohr and his associates" and smearing me became Object No. 1.

I was okay with the smearing. I expected it. Welcomed it actually. Because I knew that they, Apuron's gestapo, was heading right for a cascade of mistakes - which in fact happened. However, my family didn't take it so well. Some of them were embarrassed by all the negative attention. I understood it but didn't know what to do about it. I had hopes that those who had promised to support my family when all hell broke loose would actually be there. They weren't. And my family suffered and they're still suffering.

At the center of the planned attack on me and my family were certain members of the clergy, including Adrian. I know who they are, and, if you were following the action back in those days, you do too.

After Apuron was found guilty by a Vatican tribunal in March 2018, Apuron's goons immediately began planning for his appeal. As already set out in La Stampa, the path to a successful appeal lay in proving that Apuron was the victim of a conspiracy led by "Tim Rohr, a real estate agent employed by Msgr. Benavente and involved in the projected sale of the seminary..."

However, their problem was that they had no evidence that I was "involved in the projected sale of the seminary" (because there was none), so they had to find another way to discredit me.

In May 2018, less than two months after the Vatican's guilty verdict, my name and face was plastered all over the local media for a full week with stories of accusations that I was a wife beater and a molester of my own children.

Krystal Paco, then a reporter for KUAM, had texted me on the morning of May 9, 2018, asking for my comments on allegations made against me in court filings.

Krystal sent pictures of some of the filings. I asked her how she got them. She said she pulled them herself (from the court) after having been "given a case number as a tip."

The plan, of course, was to discredit me by getting me accused of the same crimes Apuron was accused of to pave the way for Apuron's appeal.

Enter Theodore McCarrick

It almost worked. The kiko's in Rome engineered the appeal to bypass the normal process of appeal through a tribunal, and got the pope to take on Apuron's appeal personally:

The pope explained that in considering Apuron's appeal, he is bypassing the traditional "giuria"--the council of bishops that make up a tribunal--and will be considering the appeal himself. This is because Apuron's situation is a "very difficult case."Catholic News Agency, Aug. 28, 2018

I remember watching the pope say this on TV. Francis was on a flight back to Rome from an event in Ireland. However, the aim of the interview was not what he was going to do with Apuron, but what he was going to do about a much bigger fish, then-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

The McCarrick scandal was full of hooks and traps, especially for Francis, because there was a paper trail showing a connection between Francis and McCarrick. McCarrick had already been removed from his office by Francis' predecessor, Benedict, for decades of sexual misconduct with multiple seminarians. However, Francis had restored McCarrick to a position of power and now McCarrick, in 2018, was all over the news due to a now infamous letter by the now excommunicated Archbishop Vigano.

This is all very complex, and would make a much better movie than the Da Vinci Code ever did, but bottom line is that Francis was caught with his hands in the cookie jar and he needed to do something quick to salvage his reputation for on being tough on clerics who were sexual miscreants.

This is why, when Francis was being questioned about McCarrick, Francis himself changed the subject to Apuron - when the press probably knew little to nothing of Apuron. So now, with the stage lights glaring on Francis over McCarrick, he could not let Apuron off the hook. So Francis denied Apuron's appeal and finished him off.

BUT, had it not been for the timing of the McCarrick thing, I am very certain that Apuron's appeal would have been granted by Francis and he'd be living happily ever after in Guam.

So, why do I care?

So, WHY do I CARE? Why do I care about a little liturgical abuse at a little school? Why do I care that the new archbishop took a month to say anything about it? And why do I care that when he finally did say something he ultimately said nothing.

I guess it just reminds me of the terrible price some us had to pay and are still paying for shining the light on half a century of horrors, horrors shrouded in silence. In the end though, it was that silence that helped everyone eventually hear the pounding of that tell-tale heart - or should I say "hearts"...hundreds and hundreds of hearts.

I'll stop now.

HIGH DRAMA IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF AGANA - PART 7: THE TOVES APOCALYPSE

By Tim Rohr

CONTINUED FROM PART 6

Note: Apocalypse (from Ancient Greek ἀποκάλυψις (apokálupsis) 'revelation, disclosure'), and has come to be synonymous with "an event involving destruction or damage on an awesome or catastrophic scale."

Before going on with what I'm going to call "The Hon Dynasty," we need to review the backstory of how the issues in the Archdiocese of Agana jumped from Apuron's local squabble with a couple of priests, that probably would have died out in a couple of months, to a clergy sex abuse crisis of catastrophic proportions - a crisis which brought Hon to Guam, and a crisis that, per capita, became 14 times the size of the crisis in the Archdiocese of Boston which led to the Academy Award winning movie "Spotlight."

*****

Even after Apuron attacked Msgr. James Benavente and kicked him out of the Cathedral - where he was both rector and functionally the pastor - the whole fiasco might have remained just a local church squabble.

The problem was that the squabble had grown louder after Apuron further attacked Benavente publicly and in print. This caused the laity to mobilize both in support of Benavente but also in reaction to Apuron's incomprehensible actions, first against Gofigan and now Benavente.

There was a large public demonstration in support of Benavente on the steps of the Cathedral, a motorcade, and an increased interest by the local media.

Benavente was well-connected and well-liked, and he had the immediate support of many, but nothing any of Benavente's close associates did or said appeared to give Apuron pause. In fact, Apuron (or really his people) ramped up their attacks in response to the defense of Benavente.

However, these ramped up attacks created the ever increasing din that eventually was heard across the Pacific and began to raise ghosts from both Benavente and Apuron's past, one of whom was John Toves.

Toves first approached me anonymously through a comment on this blog. In the comment he accused Apuron of sexually molesting his relative. I posted back that if the "commenter" wanted the comment to be public, he (I didn't know yet if the commenter was a he or she yet), would have to put his name to the comment.

John commented back that his name was John Charles Ada Toves and that Apuron had molested his relative.

There was nothing I could do with the comment other than to leave it on the blog. John had put his name to his accusation and there it was. But I didn't need to do anything as the comments in response to John's accusation began exploding. And then, a few weeks later, in November of 2014, John called into Jesse Lujan's KUAM show and made the same accusation. This was the first time anyone had publicly accused Apuron of sex abuse - though it had been rumored for years.

The next month, John, who lived in California, came to Guam and attempted to confront Apuron on multiple occasions. Toves, in a confrontation with then-Fr. Adrian Cristobal that was memorialized in a KUAM news story, was unceremoniously thrown off "The Hill" and threatened with police action should he try again.

John Toves unable to meet with archbishop - KUAM

And it was here that Apuron made his first of many big mistakes. Certainly how he handled the Gofigan and Benavente matters was already a big mistake, but those matters would not have led to Apuron's ouster nor to the bankruptcy of the archdiocese. However, allegations of sexual abuse were a different matter.

Toves hadn't lived in Guam since his youth and few people knew him. He had no credibility. All Apuron had to do was meet with him, say that he met with him, and say I'm sorry but Mr. Toves seems to be misinformed. Something like that. Toves then would have nowhere to go and he probably would have been refused any more airtime, especially since Toves' "relative" refused to substantiate Toves' allegation against Apuron.

Instead, Apuron sent out Cristobal to bar Apuron's door. Sending Cristobal out to meet John was also a big mistake. John and Cristobal had been in the seminary together and each knew each other's dirty laundry. Cristobal knew how dangerous John was, not just to Apuron, but to himself. And it showed.

REAL JUSTICE VS THE MONSTERS OF SAN RAMON

By Tim Rohr

In the video in this news story, Atty. Ed Caldie breaks into a passionate speech about "those who came forward" and how "we all got a huge gift from them for doing that."

A typical lawyer speech - especially one who is walking away with millions regardless of the outcome. But beyond that:

Who exactly "came forward?"

Other than Leo Tudela, Roy Quintanilla, Walter Denton, Roland Sondia, and Doris Concepcion - for her deceased son ("Sonny" Quinata), every one of the hundreds of other "survivors," save one or two others, have hidden behind their initials instead of putting their names and faces out there like the brave few just named.

Moreover...

it was ONLY the a-forenamed brave FEW who publicly testified in support of the bill that eventually gave the hundreds of other "survivors" the opportunity to sue the Archdiocese of Agana for damages.

REAL JUSTICE..

If there's going to be "justice" - if anything is left after the attorneys are done - then REAL "justice" should disproportionately compensate the very few who actually did "come forward," and DID NOT cower behind an attorney or their initials in a court filing.

And that's another thing.

Those FIRST FEW who actually did "come forward," came "forward" without an attorney and without a law to protect them from the WRATH of Apuron and his Goblins.

In fact, Apuron and his Goblins responded to these FIRST FEW with threats to sue civilly and canonically.

Here is one example:

Tim Rohr and his associates launched a vicious and calumnious attack on the Archbishop and the Church...The perpetrators of these calumnies have resorted to insults and violence revealing their true intention to destroy the Catholic Church and discredit the Archbishop by whatever means. Their method is to confuse and mislead the faithful, even to the point of inducing some to bring false testimony. This was predicted even before the first accusation was revealed.

Those who are orchestrating this campaign are inciting people into hatred of the Archbishop and the Catholic Church. They have produced scandal, confusion and grave errors with the cruel intent to injure the Archbishop, the Catholic Church in Guam and many other people of good will who have been outraged and harassed. Therefore, the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical and legal measures against those perpetrating these malicious lies.

And let's not forget the late John Toves who was and is still the real hero here.

It was John Toves who first pointed a public finger at Apuron.

It was John Toves who first marched on "Fortress Apuron" on San Ramon Hill.

And it was John Toves who was first thrown off that hill by Apuron's Goblin-in-Chief, the now disgraced and defrocked run-away, the former Fr. Adrian Cristobal.

Toves died without receiving a single cent for his courage.

NOTE: The references to Toves are many. See here to all references on JW.

SO: Let us see some REAL JUSTICE.

Let's see to it that the survivors who put their REAL NAMES and FACES out there when there was not only no hope of compensation, but the full expectation that they would be sued into poverty and oblivion by the "filthy" machine - including the New Jersey Mafia who protected Apuron and sought to crush anyone and everyone who stood up to "the filth in the Church."

"How much filth there is in the church, even among those who, in the priesthood, should belong entirely to Him. How much pride, how much self-sufficiency." - Pope Benedict XVI

And now let us speak of others who "came forward."

How about the Catholics who spent FIFTY-FOUR SUNDAYS marching in front of the Agana Cathedral during the 9:30am Mass - "Apuron's Mass."

Yes. What about them?

What about the sneers and the hate from fellow "Catholics" (?) who intentionally and brazenly pushed through the marchers' picket line Sunday after Sunday and who entered the once-hallowed walls of the Agana Cathedral and presented themselves for "Holy Communion" -  with nary a thought to the "FILTH" that was perpetrated from THAT same altar.

And what about the many Catholics who testified in support of the bill to lift the civil statute of limitations so that survivors could finally seek justice - EVEN THOUGH those same Catholics knew that they would have to pay the bill because the actual perpetrators would never be required to pay a single shekel?

Yes. What about them?

SETTLE THIS and give whatever is left to the real SURVIVORS who dared put their names and faces up against the MONSTERS OF SAN RAMON when they had nothing to gain and everything to lose.

MY NAME IS "JOHN CHARLES ADA TOVES"

Now that the local media has come out with a sort of "in memoriam" piece about John Toves and his role in the exposition of a clergy abuse scandal that is, per capita, now 400% bigger than the Boston scandal which led to the Academy Award winning movie, "Spotlight," you may want to read (or re-read) the REST OF THE  STORY.

BTW: Where is Adrian?

ROMA LOCUTA; CAUSA FINITA EST

This post is dedicated to John Toves, without whose courage nothing would have happened.

"the Tribunal of Second Instance upheld the sentence of First Instance finding the Archbishop guilty of delicts against the Sixth Commandment with minors."

ROME HAS SPOKEN; THE CAUSE IS FINISHED

But while Rome has spoken and the Cause is Finished, Apuron isn't.

REQUEST FOR PRAYERS FOR JOHN TOVES

(posted by Frenchie)

Back in December of 2014, a courageous man made the long trip from the San Francisco Bay area to Guam, to accuse Apuron of having abused his cousin while he was the pastor in Agat.

The Name of this man is John Toves. His trip and his confronting the Chancery powerful and evil administration of Apuron, soon became the ripple which grew to a tidal wave.

Because of his accusations against Apuron, which were well publicized in the local media and in the USA, John was soon contacted by several individuals who also had been abused by Apuron while he was posted in Agat as a priest.
They were to become the Agat Boys.

Six Months later, one after the other, the Agat Boys would take the public stand and accuse Apuron.
Soon after, our cowardly Archbishop would leave the island to reappear in Rome, in an effort to  fight the tide, to no avail.

The rest is history.

Apuron has not set foot on the island since. The putrid Pius, the man of the shadow, was forced to leave, and Cristobal the evil emminence grise of Apuron is also on the run, after being accused of abuse himsel, by several victims.

John Toves testified for the Canonical Tribunal led by Cardinal Burke, who ultimately found Apuron guilty. John was glad to do so, despite having been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
Over the last three years he has fought the good fight, while getting ready for his next life.

Unfortunately for his family he is nearing the end of his passage on this earth, and has taken to an hospice in the Milbrae area.

John has shown us that a single individual who is unafraid could move mountains.

Lets Pray for him, that he can be at peace and pass into a better world surrounded by the people that love him, and the numerous people who appreciate what he did for our Church here on Guam.

Knowing John, he most likely will be as late as possible for his meeting with St Peter.

Thank you John for all what you did for us.

FUN WITH "THE DIANA" AND A LITTLE HISTORY OF OUR OWN

Posted by Tim

I normally don't like giving these LOSERS any time or space on my blog, except for when someone sends me something I can have some fun with. The Diana writes:

HELLO? ARCHBISHOP APURON?

On December 20, 2014, John Toves called Archbishop Anthony Apuron. He posted a copy of his conversation of his comment to this blog on the same day. In light of the revelation by Ramon De Plata, let's repost it:

(Toves) "Archbishop Apuron?"

(AAA) "Yes"

(Toves) "This is John Toves from California."

(AAA) (Silence)

(Toves) "How are you?"

(AAA) (mumbled) "Fine."

(Toves) "You said fine?"

(AAA) "Fine."

(Toves) "You have not been listening to the media, or the people?"

(AAA) "I have been staying low."

(Toves) "Why is that?"

(AAA) (Silence)

(Toves) "Archbishop, I will persist in trying to meet with you. I am thoroughly disappointed that you had been unable to meet with me each time."

(AAA) "I am following the advice of my attorney." "I cannot talk to you." "I have to go." (starting to hang up)

(Toves) "I know about Chalan Pago."

(AAA) (breathing heavier)

(Toves) "I know about you and Father Tony Cruz, and the altar boys." "I have met with persons directly involved."

(AAA) (still heavier breathing) (hangs up) (beep, beep, beep, beep)

A few days later, wanting to wish Apuron a "Merry Christmas" on Christmas Eve, Toves sent Apuron this:

PDN OP ED: HON FALLS SHORT OF EXPECTATIONS

In today's Pacific Daily News:

Hon falls short of expectations

by John Charles Ada Toves

With all due respect, Archbishop Hon, a job's performance is based on whether an individual "does not meet expectations," "meets expectations," and "exceeds expectations." Your eminence, I must say sadly you are not meeting expectations. Read more.

NOTE TO HON: AS THE CHURCH GOES SO GOES THE WORLD.

To date, the Chancery Office of the Archdiocese of Agana, now headed by Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, has threatened legal action against the laity at least SIX TIMES. (Actually there are several more but this is all I had time for to pull up out of my files.)

NOVEMBER 28, 2014: "...defending the Church compels me to file a suit for defamation."
-Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron. Statement re allegations by John C. Toves

NOVEMBER 30, 2014: "...defending the Church compels me to file a suit for defamation."
- Anthony S. Apuron. November 30, 2014. Sunday homily at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Fiesta Mass

DECEMBER 05, 2014: "...you are hereby notified that any demands for an appointment or attempts to…confront the Archbishop on Chancery grounds or elsewhere will be responded to appropriately and in accordance with the law."
- Msgr. David C. Quitugua, Vicar General Archdiocese of Agana, to John C. Toves, threatening to call the police on Toves

JULY 5, 2015: "If you do not comply with this demand, Archbishop Apuron will have to pursue all available legal remedies, including seeking monetary damages for harm to his reputation and character, punitive damages, injunctive relief and an order that you pay court costs and attorney's fees. Your liability and exposure under such legal action will be considerable."
- Michelle R. Neal. Attorney for Anthony S. Apuron. Letter addressed to John Toves.

MAY 13, 2016: "...the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical measures with the Sacra Rota – the competent canonical tribunal – and filing civil lawsuit against those perpetrating these malicious lies."
- Fr. Edivaldo da Silva Oliveira. Archdiocese of Agana, Media Relations. Media Release threatening CCOG and Tim Rohr

MAY 31, 2016: "...the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical and legal measures against those perpetrating these malicious lies."
- Fr. Edivaldo da Silva Oliveira. Archdiocese of Agana, Media Relations. Media Release threatening Doris Concepcion and Tim Rohr

Yet, in today's Archdiocesan newspaper, Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, Apostolic Administrator for this same archdiocese, presumes to lecture us on how it is "Modern societies" which have "sharpened the tools of the law" and have led us to the "belief that wrongdoings can be solved simply by lawsuits..."

Hon's words are so typical of a church bureaucrat steeped in clericalism and infatuated with his own power: blame the people, blame the laity, blame "modern society" blame the world.

The civil case filed by Lujan and Wolff in behalf of Quintanilla, Concepcion, Denton, and Sondia, was the FIRST and only action by any member of the laity to respond with these so-called "sharpened tools" to the multiple threats coming from Hon's own chancery.

As the Church goes, so goes the world, Hon. And here you have led by example. By not condemning the actions and accusations against the laity by members of the clergy over whom (as you say) you have "the power," you align yourself with them and their threats.

You're a fake, Hon. A FAKE.

ORCHESTRATED? PART 1

I heard again today that some think the coming forward of the victims was "orchestrated." Of course it was orchestrated.

I had to be terribly careful with said victims. I knew what (Archbishop) Apuron would do to them. I knew he'd threaten them just like he did when he molested and raped their tender souls and bodies. We knew he'd say "no one will believe you." And in fact, that is exactly what he said in a different way 40 years later, except this time he accused them of spreading "malicious lies and calumnies" and threatened to sue them into silence.

I knew he would do this. So I had to work long and hard. I had to find money. I had to find an attorney who would protect them. I had to gain their trust. l had to organize, organize, organize. Even now, I have to see to their care and protection SINCE THE CHURCH STILL WON'T.

These were horribly damaged boys who had carried their long nightmare into a tormented adulthood, a suffering that was deeply visible on the faces and in the voices of those who stood before us, including the mother of a now dead boy. A boy whose life might have been very different but for what Apuron did to him when he was nine years old. A boy who might be alive today, and a mother who instead of caving into tears at the mere thought of what she unknowingly permitted, might break into a great smile at the thought of a very much alive son who blessed her with grandchildren.

You don't just throw people who have suffered so long and so hard out there and say go for it. Months of conversations and care had to happen first. And right up to the last minute, it was still up to them if they wanted to go public or not. I was quite willing to assist them. For all they wanted to do at the time was to simply deliver their statements to Apuron and to the appropriate Roman authorities. In fact, that was the plan.

But then something changed. Something happened.

Someone in the chancery released a statement on May 13, 2016 listing two pages of accusations against the laity who had been speaking up against Apuron's offenses. The statement said that in response to our speaking up, the Archbishop would be seeking legal action against us. Of specific interest to the victims was this:
These ads were paid for by the Concerned Catholics of Guam (CCOG) according to media statements by Gregory Perez and, as admitted by Tim Rohr, with the intent to target specifically the Archbishop. This demonstrates that they have no proof to substantiate any allegations and that their purpose is to confuse and mislead the people or, even, to induce some to bring false testimony.
The "ads" of course was this one:

READ THAT AGAIN: "...they have no proof to substantiate any allegations and that their purpose is to confuse and mislead the people or, even, to induce some to bring false testimony."

Well these men had "proof," and 40 years of it. And any thought of keeping this a private matter disappeared. It was time to call out this horrible man who had mutilated them, body and soul. It was time to present THE TRUTH.

Four days later, Roy Quintanilla came forward.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. I wanted to present the back story to this. Because, you see, I never intended to find these victims of Anthony S. Apuron. Instead, they found me. And little did I know, that this was what Apuron feared when he went to Rome to try to shut me up. Yes. Went to Rome.

Here's what happened.

Beginning in July of 2013, I began following and posting about Apuron's sadistic treatment of Fr. Paul Gofigan. The story quickly descending into a horror story and my posts rapidly drew a crowd.

The page-views and comments were beginning to pile up. It was a combination of both Apuron's sadistic treatment of Fr. Paul and the disturbing fact that someone was actually willing to go public about the evil acts of one, Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron.

At the time I didn't know that Apuron had been (and maybe still was/is) a serial child molester. * I had heard rumors for several years, but paid little attention to them. The Father Paul story continued to get more horrific and my page-views began to climb and climb. Apparently Apuron had never had anyone call him out in public before, and, in hindsight, I can see that he foresaw THE DANGER.

* Later, clinically speaking, it can be said that Apuron was not molesting "children." Legally "children" are persons under 18 years of age, But biologically and clinically, "children" are prepubescent persons. All of Apuron's reported victims were post-pubescent, i.e. adolescents (biological adults), which makes Apuron's alleged acts against these legal minors, homosexual acts, not pedophilia. (Note: Ephebophilia is the clinical name.)

And here it is:

Apuron knew that his perverted past had to be known. But he counted on the same "no one will believe you" he used on those boys to keep adults quiet as well. As long as his evil acts remained only whispered, he could continue to prance and flutter about, pretending to be the pope of Guam, singing "No one can touch me, No one can touch me. Nah, nah nah, nah, nah, ...!

But then came JungleWatch, and someone who wasn't afraid of his High and Mighty-ness.

Apuron hadn't counted on that.

+++++

Things got out of hand quickly. If there was a public forum for all the people he had hurt over so many years, especially a forum where people could comment without being known...then Apuron knew he was in trouble.

+++++

I didn't know it at the time, but those initial postings about what he did to Fr. Paul were the beginning of the end for 'Tony' (Apuron). In fact, it was just the beginning of his own "arduous and painful closure to his assignment" - words he had used to threaten Fr. Paul only a few months before.

Tony had to do something. So he did.

On October 10, 2013, I got a "shut up and sit down" letter from a Cardinal Edwin O'Brien.

Apuron apparently thought that I was like him, that being "important" mattered. The Order into which I had (then) only recently been initiated (Sep. 2012) is an important Order in the Church and it is considered an honor to be a member.

But I wasn't about to sacrifice the truth for a club membership. So in fact, not only did I laugh this off, I bombarded Cardinal O'Brien with two letters full of details about Apuron's horrific reign of terror. You can read more about that here.

You might say that Apuron himself opened up the door, permitting the first details about his evil reign to leak into Rome. By the way, I never heard from O'Brien again

I had some fun with this letter, showing it to friends over beer many nights down at The Mermaid Tavern. I mean, who else gets a letter from Vatican City? But the more I thought about it, the more I began to suspect that something was up. This was way over the top. This was way out of proportion to what I was doing. I mean, really? He went to Rome to take me - a nobody with a little blog - down? What?

Hmmmmm.

The Fr. Paul affair descended into an absolute nightmare, climaxing with Tony's (Apuron's) sick, run-off-at-the-mouth, filthy speech to the clergy on retreat at Tagaytay, Philippines (October 2013) wherein he inferred that Fr. Paul had built a secret stairway to his room to facilitate drunken midnight homosexual trysts. You can listen to it here

The story continued to get worse and worse. The diocese was coming apart and the war was going public. In fact, one could write a book about it. In fact, I DID write a book about it.

After about January 2014 or so, things began to die down a bit, and I thought the story would go away. I remember one day thinking: "Well that's that!" Nothing more I can do. And lo and behold, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove and gave us THE DIANA! LOL.

This thing was dead in the water, but "The Diana" (A Neocat Blog), with her absolutely insane pronouncements and perspectives, breathed new life into what was pretty much dead and the war was on again.

The arguments between our two blogs exploded and so did my page-views. Things began to mount and mount, the noise grew louder and louder, and finally Rome took note, sending Archbishop Martin Krebs, the Apostolic Nuncio to this region, to Guam in mid July 2014 to see what all the ruckus was about.

This is when Fr. John Wadeson decided to come out of the closet. Poor Fr. Wadeson, he had no idea I was waiting for him.

I had gotten a recording of the clergy meeting with Archbishop Krebs. And the recording revealed some pretty horrid things. I published the recording and Wadeson decided to slap me down for my publishing of the recording. I then blasted Wadeson with a ten year old report showing that he was twice credibly accused for molesting minors in Los Angeles.

All hell broke loose and Apuron (attempting to save his own ...) threw Wadeson under the bus. You can read all the posts related to The Wandering Wadeson here

And then came the Msgr. James thing.

On July 25, 2014, Msgr. James Benavente was called to Apuron's office where he was read a list of charges against him. No warning. No sit down let's work this out. No attempt to paternally correct. Just the accusations, the accusations, the accusations, and no opportunity for Msgr. James to even engage said accusations or even get a copy of them. The next day, the evil stepsisters, Msgr. David C. Quitugua and then-Fr. Adrian Cristobal, showed up on Msgr. James' door step and handed him his "get the hell out of here" decrees.

Apparently that was the final straw. People blew up, including someone over in San Francisco named John Toves.

I remember the morning John left a comment on my blog accusing Apuron of molesting his "relative."

I didn't publish it because he didn't leave his name. I posted back that I needed his name to publish the comment. He posted back: "My name is John Charles Ada Toves." I realized that this was too important for just a series of comments on the blog. I struck up an ongoing conversation with John Toves over the next few months - a conversation that led to John's coming to Guam to take his accusations directly to "Tony" (Archbishop Apuron) himself.

John Toves was adamant about what Apuron did to his "relative." After I learned his relative's name, I remembered that I had heard the rumors many times. John's "relative" still prefers to let the past be the past so we are not going to go there. But as some on Guam may remember, things got nuts during December of 2014, leading to the infamous "for sure for sure" interview, which you can enjoy here. For more on the fun with Apuron and Toves see Apuron vs Toves

Apuron probably messed his pants when John Toves showed up. Nevertheless, Apuron probably figured he was still safe so long as the actual victim never came forward...and Apuron knew he wouldn't - and he was right.

But John Toves was dangerous in another way.

Toves was an altar boy...an altar boy in Agat, an altar boy who had been one of the altar boys during Apuron's days in Agat in the 1970's.

Toves knew Walter, Roy, Roland, Sonny, and many more. If news got out that John Toves was in town and making noise about Apuron molesting boys, Apuron had to know that this was not good. Old skeletons might come alive. And the old skeletons did start to shake, but they would not put flesh on for several months.

Meanwhile, though, the pressure on Apuron - brought on by John Toves - once again shook Rome awake, and they paid us a visit the following month in January 2015.

It took a few months for that to happen. Meanwhile, Diana kept things lively and drove the blog bigger and bigger, louder and louder.

ENJOY THIS OLD CLASSIC. ARCHBISHOP HON, GET THE POPCORN! LOL!

APURON VS TOVES - CONTINUED

Archbishop Apuron isn’t a shepherd to the people

MESSAGE FROM JOHN TOVES - 10/23/15

jctoves@sbcglobal.net

This Will Be Your Church - The Archdiocese of Apuron

It is your choice.  You must do something!

Apuron is not a shepherd as he does not lead his flock.  The Sexual Abuse Policy is an example.  I made four attempts to meet with the Archbishop, and non were met, not even a phone call.  All I received was a threatening letter to not attempt to another appointment.  This is not a shepherd.

In July, he had a California attorney threatening me to cease and desist.  My response was that I would not.

Archbishop, it's been over two months, and I'm still waiting.  Sue me!  We will not allow you to do this to Our Church.

APURON VS ROHR. APURON VS TOVES.

I have to admit that even after all the unbelievable things we have seen this bishop and his bullies say and do, I really couldn't believe he would stoop so low as to hire an attorney to shut up John Toves
