HIGH DRAMA IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF AGANA - PART 7: THE TOVES APOCALYPSE

By Tim Rohr

CONTINUED FROM PART 6

Note: Apocalypse (from Ancient Greek ἀποκάλυψις (apokálupsis) 'revelation, disclosure'), and has come to be synonymous with "an event involving destruction or damage on an awesome or catastrophic scale."

Before going on with what I'm going to call "The Hon Dynasty," we need to review the backstory of how the issues in the Archdiocese of Agana jumped from Apuron's local squabble with a couple of priests, that probably would have died out in a couple of months, to a clergy sex abuse crisis of catastrophic proportions - a crisis which brought Hon to Guam, and a crisis that, per capita, became 14 times the size of the crisis in the Archdiocese of Boston which led to the Academy Award winning movie "Spotlight."

*****

Even after Apuron attacked Msgr. James Benavente and kicked him out of the Cathedral - where he was both rector and functionally the pastor - the whole fiasco might have remained just a local church squabble.

The problem was that the squabble had grown louder after Apuron further attacked Benavente publicly and in print. This caused the laity to mobilize both in support of Benavente but also in reaction to Apuron's incomprehensible actions, first against Gofigan and now Benavente.

There was a large public demonstration in support of Benavente on the steps of the Cathedral, a motorcade, and an increased interest by the local media.

Benavente was well-connected and well-liked, and he had the immediate support of many, but nothing any of Benavente's close associates did or said appeared to give Apuron pause. In fact, Apuron (or really his people) ramped up their attacks in response to the defense of Benavente.

However, these ramped up attacks created the ever increasing din that eventually was heard across the Pacific and began to raise ghosts from both Benavente and Apuron's past, one of whom was John Toves.

Toves first approached me anonymously through a comment on this blog. In the comment he accused Apuron of sexually molesting his relative. I posted back that if the "commenter" wanted the comment to be public, he (I didn't know yet if the commenter was a he or she yet), would have to put his name to the comment.

John commented back that his name was John Charles Ada Toves and that Apuron had molested his relative.

There was nothing I could do with the comment other than to leave it on the blog. John had put his name to his accusation and there it was. But I didn't need to do anything as the comments in response to John's accusation began exploding. And then, a few weeks later, in November of 2014, John called into Jesse Lujan's KUAM show and made the same accusation. This was the first time anyone had publicly accused Apuron of sex abuse - though it had been rumored for years.

The next month, John, who lived in California, came to Guam and attempted to confront Apuron on multiple occasions. Toves, in a confrontation with then-Fr. Adrian Cristobal that was memorialized in a KUAM news story, was unceremoniously thrown off "The Hill" and threatened with police action should he try again.

John Toves unable to meet with archbishop - KUAM

And it was here that Apuron made his first of many big mistakes. Certainly how he handled the Gofigan and Benavente matters was already a big mistake, but those matters would not have led to Apuron's ouster nor to the bankruptcy of the archdiocese. However, allegations of sexual abuse were a different matter.

Toves hadn't lived in Guam since his youth and few people knew him. He had no credibility. All Apuron had to do was meet with him, say that he met with him, and say I'm sorry but Mr. Toves seems to be misinformed. Something like that. Toves then would have nowhere to go and he probably would have been refused any more airtime, especially since Toves' "relative" refused to substantiate Toves' allegation against Apuron.

Instead, Apuron sent out Cristobal to bar Apuron's door. Sending Cristobal out to meet John was also a big mistake. John and Cristobal had been in the seminary together and each knew each other's dirty laundry. Cristobal knew how dangerous John was, not just to Apuron, but to himself. And it showed.

APURON VS ROHR. APURON VS TOVES.

I have to admit that even after all the unbelievable things we have seen this bishop and his bullies say and do, I really couldn't believe he would stoop so low as to hire an attorney to shut up John Toves

Deacon Claros Defends Archbishop from Sex Abuse Allegations

Written by

http://pacificnewscenter.com/guam/item/1106-deacon-claros-defends-archbishop-from-sex-abuse-allegations

(My comments in red)

John Toves holds a press conference at the Chancery Office where he attempts to meet with Archbishop Apuron to confront him with his sex abuse allegations.
Guam - Staying true to his word, John Toves, the man accusing the Archbishop of sexually molesting a relative, went to the Chancery Office today to confront Archbishop Anthony Apuron, but he met instead with the Archdiocese’s Sexual Abuse Response Coordinator Deacon Larry Claros, who defended the Archbishop.

(AAA was there, but Toves was told he had to make an appointment even though Cristobal said the AAA has an "open door policy". Joke 1: an "open door policy" , a real one, is the very opposite of requiring an appointment. The idea of an "open door policy" is that if the "boss is in", then come on in. What a joke.)
"I have no financial gains to make. I welcome him to sue me and take my house," Toves proclaimed.

(So where is the suit, Archbishop? What are you waiting for?)
John Toves has opened a can of worms by publicly accusing Archbishop Anthony Apuron of sexual abuse. But some have questioned his motives. For one, Toves says he’s not the victim, it’s his relative. Toves believes the silence has to do with the Chamorro culture.
"Unfortunately our culture is not permitting them to come forward without retribution from some other party or their relatives or the Church," he says.

Now on island, Toves was hoping to confront the Archbishop directly. Toves has two goals. The first is for two of the Archbishop’s perceived adversaries Msgr. James Benavente and Father Paul Gofigan to be reinstated to their previous positions and second is for the Archbishop to step down. Asked whether he believes the Archbishop will give him what he asks for, Toves says no.
While at the Chancery Office waiting for the Archbishop, Chancellor Father Adrian Cristobal stepped out to inform Toves that the Archbishop was not available. Toves instead asked to meet with Deacon Larry Claros, the Archdiocese's Sexual Abuse Response Coordinator.
Toves was allowed to meet Claros, but the meeting lasted just a few minutes. When Deacon Claros stepped out, this is what he had to say.
"These allegations against the Archbishop, they’re very serious. Therefore we’ll just go ahead and, the spirit will eventually put an end to this and there will be justice done," Claros stated. "I do believe and very confident that truth will prevail."

(Wow! Go ahead read that again and see if you can complete the incomplete sentences first. Let's see now, Claros tells us that the allegations are "very serious" yet in the same breath tell us that he will "put an end to this". Umm, Larry, you are the "response coordinator", not the Archbishop's attorney. You are ONLY supposed to coordinate the investigation, not the defense. Sheeesh!)
Asked whether Claros believes the Archbishop is innocent, he said, "Oh, for sure. For sure."

(Oh wait, so what happened to the "very serious allegations"? LOL!)
PNC: "You believe that he’s innocent yet you’re investigating these allegations?"
Claros: "There’s no investigation."

(ROTFL!)
Asked to clarify his role, Claros says as the Sexual Abuse Response Coordinator, he has met with a review board committee and they had determined that there is no need to conduct an investigation.

(Ummm, Larry, did you check with the committee and let them know you were going to say that? You didn't did you? You didn't because the committee DID NOT determine that there was no need to conduct an investigation. They didn't determine anything yet, did they? Yet you...well you're lying. That's what happens when you hang around the Archbishop too much.)
"The committee is looking more as where’s the victim so that, because of our policy, it is the welfare of the victim that needs to be attended first and foremost," Claros explains.

(Oh BIG JOKE HERE. So you are like looking for the victim right? You just said the Archbishop is innocent "for sure, for sure". So you don't believe there is a victim, but you say "the welfare of the victim...needs to be attended first and foremost." So there is a victim but there is no victim. LOLOLOLOLOL!)
Toves: "You can tell how ill-set-up this supposed mechanism is and most notably his words: it’s not an investigation ... he’s supposed to be the independent--their claim is that he’s the independent role, but yet he’s speaking for the Archbishop?"
Toves says since going public, he’s spoken with at least 7 individuals who have complaints against the Archbishop, but he could not disclose whether they were sexual in nature. The Archbishop meanwhile, maintains his innocence and says he plans to file for defamation.
The Archdiocese has also released a statement:
"The Archdiocese of Agana acknowledges receipt of the concern of Mr. John C. Toves. The established policy of the Archdiocese, namely the Policy on Sexual Abuse as posted on http://www.aganaarch.org, is being adhered to. Pursuant to this policy, and to clarify the issue, the matter is currently under review."

(LOL! Wait, Claros just said that the committee decided the archbishop is innocent and there is no need for an investigation but the "matter is currently under review"???? Archbishop Krebs, are you reading this?)

THEY ARE SCRAMBLING

Is this true about the real reason behind J. Toves coming to Guam as per Diana.

Dear Ernie,

Before John Toves came to Guam, he also spoke to Patty Arroyo. Tim Rohr has the John's interview with Jesse Lujan and Ray Gibson, but somehow he missed the interview with Patty Arroyo, which can be found on this weblink:

http://www.pacificnewscenter.com/pnc-k57-interviews/item/1018-john-toves-with-patti-arroyo

According to that Interview, John Toves admitted that the real reason he came out was to reinstate Monsignor James and Father Paul. It was not about his cousin who he claimed was sexually molested by the Archbishop. In fact, he admitted in this interview that he never communicated with his cousin about his plan to launch the allegations against the Archbishop. So, he was not even speaking on behalf of his cousin.

MY REPLY

First, the interviews on Patti's show are not as regularly recorded and posted on the PNC website as are the interviews on Ray Gibson's shows, so I probably didn't think to look for it.

Second, I don't catch every media happening and I don't remember hearing the interview with Patti. In fact, I know I missed it because I also missed the one with Ray earlier.

Third, Mr. Toves has been very clear about the objectives of his visit: 1) to confront AAA about the molestation of his cousin, 2) to demand the reinstatement of Msgr. James and Fr. Paul, and 3) to demand that the Archbishop step down.

The only reason demands two and three have any weight is because of demand number one. Otherwise Toves would pose no threat to AAA and AAA would not be threatening to sue him.

Mr. Toves in fact did not communicate with his cousin about this, but not for lack of trying. He has tried on several occasions. However, he didn't try very hard because he was well aware of the emotional trauma his cousin took years to recover from, a trauma that led to an attempt to take his own life. And Mr. Toves was aware that bringing this up with his cousin could cause a relapse, so he let it go and decided to go it alone.

However, now with AAA threatening to sue, a defamation suit could force the victim to be deposed and his life could collapse. If this happens it won't be Mr. Toves' fault. It will be the Archbishop's since this scenario can only happen if AAA presses his suit.

All AAA would have to do to discredit Mr. Toves and get rid of him is to say the charges are false and go on about his business. This is what other bishops have done. But AAA is threatening to sue and pleading the 5th. This is the worst thing he could have done...if he is innocent.

Mr. Toves also knows that he is not alone in what he knows. Many on Guam know. And many have said so in comments to this blog. I have left them unpublished because there was no name attached. I have also been approached by several people who have relayed their knowledge of the molestation, not just of John's cousin, but of others.

However, they are unwilling to come forward and I understand their reasons. The victims and their families have spent years in recovery and putting this behind them and do not want to go through the pain again. The molestations occurred during a period where these kinds of things were not known. And most did not know how to respond other than to bury it.

Today, with the exposition of 50 years of this kind of behavior in what Pope Benedict called "the filth in the Church", we are incredulous as to why someone didn't come forward earlier. But back then there was no precedent for it.

In the 70's my dad and I went to the Archbishop of Los Angeles to report our pastor. It was learned that he was having an affair with a neighbor man who was also helping himself to parish funds. As a boy, I personally had been uncomfortably touched by this priest. With me it was not sexual, but I have since learned it was a type of "probing" to see if I would respond. I didn't, other than to send a signal that I didn't like it. So he left me alone. But who knows who else he "touched"?

My father and I were told by the Archbishop (his secretary) to "get out". The Archbishop of Los Angeles and my pastor had been seminary classmates. And while I don't think they were any great friends, back then, mid 70's, that was they way the hierarchy handled complaints about their priests.

But none of this really matters in the present case. The Kikocats know that the clock is ticking and they are scrambling to destroy anyone who might take down their Sugar Daddy.

ORCHESTRATED? PART 1

I heard again today that some think the coming forward of the victims was "orchestrated." Of course it was orchestrated.

I had to be terribly careful with said victims. I knew what (Archbishop) Apuron would do to them. I knew he'd threaten them just like he did when he molested and raped their tender souls and bodies. We knew he'd say "no one will believe you." And in fact, that is exactly what he said in a different way 40 years later, except this time he accused them of spreading "malicious lies and calumnies" and threatened to sue them into silence.

I knew he would do this. So I had to work long and hard. I had to find money. I had to find an attorney who would protect them. I had to gain their trust. l had to organize, organize, organize. Even now, I have to see to their care and protection SINCE THE CHURCH STILL WON'T.

These were horribly damaged boys who had carried their long nightmare into a tormented adulthood, a suffering that was deeply visible on the faces and in the voices of those who stood before us, including the mother of a now dead boy. A boy whose life might have been very different but for what Apuron did to him when he was nine years old. A boy who might be alive today, and a mother who instead of caving into tears at the mere thought of what she unknowingly permitted, might break into a great smile at the thought of a very much alive son who blessed her with grandchildren.

You don't just throw people who have suffered so long and so hard out there and say go for it. Months of conversations and care had to happen first. And right up to the last minute, it was still up to them if they wanted to go public or not. I was quite willing to assist them. For all they wanted to do at the time was to simply deliver their statements to Apuron and to the appropriate Roman authorities. In fact, that was the plan.

But then something changed. Something happened.

Someone in the chancery released a statement on May 13, 2016 listing two pages of accusations against the laity who had been speaking up against Apuron's offenses. The statement said that in response to our speaking up, the Archbishop would be seeking legal action against us. Of specific interest to the victims was this:
These ads were paid for by the Concerned Catholics of Guam (CCOG) according to media statements by Gregory Perez and, as admitted by Tim Rohr, with the intent to target specifically the Archbishop. This demonstrates that they have no proof to substantiate any allegations and that their purpose is to confuse and mislead the people or, even, to induce some to bring false testimony.
The "ads" of course was this one:

READ THAT AGAIN: "...they have no proof to substantiate any allegations and that their purpose is to confuse and mislead the people or, even, to induce some to bring false testimony."

Well these men had "proof," and 40 years of it. And any thought of keeping this a private matter disappeared. It was time to call out this horrible man who had mutilated them, body and soul. It was time to present THE TRUTH.

Four days later, Roy Quintanilla came forward.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. I wanted to present the back story to this. Because, you see, I never intended to find these victims of Anthony S. Apuron. Instead, they found me. And little did I know, that this was what Apuron feared when he went to Rome to try to shut me up. Yes. Went to Rome.

Here's what happened.

Beginning in July of 2013, I began following and posting about Apuron's sadistic treatment of Fr. Paul Gofigan. The story quickly descending into a horror story and my posts rapidly drew a crowd.

The page-views and comments were beginning to pile up. It was a combination of both Apuron's sadistic treatment of Fr. Paul and the disturbing fact that someone was actually willing to go public about the evil acts of one, Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron.

At the time I didn't know that Apuron had been (and maybe still was/is) a serial child molester. * I had heard rumors for several years, but paid little attention to them. The Father Paul story continued to get more horrific and my page-views began to climb and climb. Apparently Apuron had never had anyone call him out in public before, and, in hindsight, I can see that he foresaw THE DANGER.

* Later, clinically speaking, it can be said that Apuron was not molesting "children." Legally "children" are persons under 18 years of age, But biologically and clinically, "children" are prepubescent persons. All of Apuron's reported victims were post-pubescent, i.e. adolescents (biological adults), which makes Apuron's alleged acts against these legal minors, homosexual acts, not pedophilia. (Note: Ephebophilia is the clinical name.)

And here it is:

Apuron knew that his perverted past had to be known. But he counted on the same "no one will believe you" he used on those boys to keep adults quiet as well. As long as his evil acts remained only whispered, he could continue to prance and flutter about, pretending to be the pope of Guam, singing "No one can touch me, No one can touch me. Nah, nah nah, nah, nah, ...!

But then came JungleWatch, and someone who wasn't afraid of his High and Mighty-ness.

Apuron hadn't counted on that.

+++++

Things got out of hand quickly. If there was a public forum for all the people he had hurt over so many years, especially a forum where people could comment without being known...then Apuron knew he was in trouble.

+++++

I didn't know it at the time, but those initial postings about what he did to Fr. Paul were the beginning of the end for 'Tony' (Apuron). In fact, it was just the beginning of his own "arduous and painful closure to his assignment" - words he had used to threaten Fr. Paul only a few months before.

Tony had to do something. So he did.

On October 10, 2013, I got a "shut up and sit down" letter from a Cardinal Edwin O'Brien.

Apuron apparently thought that I was like him, that being "important" mattered. The Order into which I had (then) only recently been initiated (Sep. 2012) is an important Order in the Church and it is considered an honor to be a member.

But I wasn't about to sacrifice the truth for a club membership. So in fact, not only did I laugh this off, I bombarded Cardinal O'Brien with two letters full of details about Apuron's horrific reign of terror. You can read more about that here.

You might say that Apuron himself opened up the door, permitting the first details about his evil reign to leak into Rome. By the way, I never heard from O'Brien again

I had some fun with this letter, showing it to friends over beer many nights down at The Mermaid Tavern. I mean, who else gets a letter from Vatican City? But the more I thought about it, the more I began to suspect that something was up. This was way over the top. This was way out of proportion to what I was doing. I mean, really? He went to Rome to take me - a nobody with a little blog - down? What?

Hmmmmm.

The Fr. Paul affair descended into an absolute nightmare, climaxing with Tony's (Apuron's) sick, run-off-at-the-mouth, filthy speech to the clergy on retreat at Tagaytay, Philippines (October 2013) wherein he inferred that Fr. Paul had built a secret stairway to his room to facilitate drunken midnight homosexual trysts. You can listen to it here

The story continued to get worse and worse. The diocese was coming apart and the war was going public. In fact, one could write a book about it. In fact, I DID write a book about it.

Get your free copy here. Or you can read it on the blog here

After about January 2014 or so, things began to die down a bit, and I thought the story would go away. I remember one day thinking: "Well that's that!" Nothing more I can do. And lo and behold, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove and gave us THE DIANA! LOL.

This thing was dead in the water, but "The Diana" (A Neocat Blog), with her absolutely insane pronouncements and perspectives, breathed new life into what was pretty much dead and the war was on again.

The arguments between our two blogs exploded and so did my page-views. Things began to mount and mount, the noise grew louder and louder, and finally Rome took note, sending Archbishop Martin Krebs, the Apostolic Nuncio to this region, to Guam in mid July 2014 to see what all the ruckus was about.

This is when Fr. John Wadeson decided to come out of the closet. Poor Fr. Wadeson, he had no idea I was waiting for him.

I had gotten a recording of the clergy meeting with Archbishop Krebs. And the recording revealed some pretty horrid things. I published the recording and Wadeson decided to slap me down for my publishing of the recording. I then blasted Wadeson with a ten year old report showing that he was twice credibly accused for molesting minors in Los Angeles.

All hell broke loose and Apuron (attempting to save his own ...) threw Wadeson under the bus. You can read all the posts related to The Wandering Wadeson here

And then came the Msgr. James thing.

On July 25, 2014, Msgr. James Benavente was called to Apuron's office where he was read a list of charges against him. No warning. No sit down let's work this out. No attempt to paternally correct. Just the accusations, the accusations, the accusations, and no opportunity for Msgr. James to even engage said accusations or even get a copy of them. The next day, the evil stepsisters, Msgr. David C. Quitugua and then-Fr. Adrian Cristobal, showed up on Msgr. James' door step and handed him his "get the hell out of here" decrees.

Apparently that was the final straw. People blew up, including someone over in San Francisco named John Toves.

I remember the morning John left a comment on my blog accusing Apuron of molesting his "relative."

I didn't publish it because he didn't leave his name. I posted back that I needed his name to publish the comment. He posted back: "My name is John Charles Ada Toves." I realized that this was too important for just a series of comments on the blog. I struck up an ongoing conversation with John Toves over the next few months - a conversation that led to John's coming to Guam to take his accusations directly to "Tony" (Archbishop Apuron) himself.

John Toves was adamant about what Apuron did to his "relative." After I learned his relative's name, I remembered that I had heard the rumors many times. John's "relative" still prefers to let the past be the past so we are not going to go there. But as some on Guam may remember, things got nuts during December of 2014, leading to the infamous "for sure for sure" interview, which you can enjoy here. For more on the fun with Apuron and Toves see Apuron vs Toves

Apuron probably messed his pants when John Toves showed up. Nevertheless, Apuron probably figured he was still safe so long as the actual victim never came forward...and Apuron knew he wouldn't - and he was right.

But John Toves was dangerous in another way.

Toves was an altar boy...an altar boy in Agat, an altar boy who had been one of the altar boys during Apuron's days in Agat in the 1970's.

Toves knew Walter, Roy, Roland, Sonny, and many more. If news got out that John Toves was in town and making noise about Apuron molesting boys, Apuron had to know that this was not good. Old skeletons might come alive. And the old skeletons did start to shake, but they would not put flesh on for several months.

Meanwhile, though, the pressure on Apuron - brought on by John Toves - once again shook Rome awake, and they paid us a visit the following month in January 2015.

It took a few months for that to happen. Meanwhile, Diana kept things lively and drove the blog bigger and bigger, louder and louder.

HELLO? ARCHBISHOP APURON?

On December 20, 2014, John Toves called Archbishop Anthony Apuron. He posted a copy of his conversation of his comment to this blog on the same day. In light of the revelation by Ramon De Plata, let's repost it:

(Toves) "Archbishop Apuron?"

(AAA) "Yes"

(Toves) "This is John Toves from California."

(AAA) (Silence)

(Toves) "How are you?"

(AAA) (mumbled) "Fine."

(Toves) "You said fine?"

(AAA) "Fine."

(Toves) "You have not been listening to the media, or the people?"

(AAA) "I have been staying low."

(Toves) "Why is that?"

(AAA) (Silence)

(Toves) "Archbishop, I will persist in trying to meet with you. I am thoroughly disappointed that you had been unable to meet with me each time."

(AAA) "I am following the advice of my attorney." "I cannot talk to you." "I have to go." (starting to hang up)

(Toves) "I know about Chalan Pago."

(AAA) (breathing heavier)

(Toves) "I know about you and Father Tony Cruz, and the altar boys." "I have met with persons directly involved."

(AAA) (still heavier breathing) (hangs up) (beep, beep, beep, beep)

A few days later, wanting to wish Apuron a "Merry Christmas" on Christmas Eve, Toves sent Apuron this:

FUN WITH "THE DIANA" AND A LITTLE HISTORY OF OUR OWN

Posted by Tim

I normally don't like giving these LOSERS any time or space on my blog, except for when someone sends me something I can have some fun with. The Diana writes:

SERIOUSLY, ARCHBISHOP. CALL ME NEXT TIME!

Archbishop retains stateside lawyer, demands end to harassment

http://www.kuam.com/global/story.asp?s=29569791

Oh dear, dear, dear Archbishop. Truly. You should call me before you do these things. I never cease to be amazed at the astounding inadequacy of your advisors. (Or maybe they really are trying to get you into trouble?? Hmm. Imagine that!)

Don't you see? There was no need to threaten poor little Mr. Toves with a big bad letter from a big bad lawyer who you probably paid with our big bad money. I mean, seriously. Mr. Toves had already marginalized himself.

A MESSED UP DIOCESE. BUT EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT...FOR NOW.

No doubt, Apuron is attacking Msgr. James again because he thinks Msgr. James is behind John Toves' visit and the creation of the Concerned Catholics of Guam.

He thinks this because he is being told this by someone who also wants to take down Msgr. James, and he (Apuron) thinks he has the real intel.

He doesn't.

In fact, I know who that "someone" is. In fact, I have "the email" that would completely expose this lying fake.

I'll get around to doing that when I feel like it, or better yet, we'll let him sweat since he'll probably figure out that this post is aimed at him. How fun to watch fools lie to each other and believe those lies because they want to.

For the record, Msgr. James and John Toves have not seen or spoken to each other in more than twenty years. Msgr. James had NOTHING to do with John Toves' allegations or his coming here. John Toves chose to come here quite on his own.

And also for the record, Msgr. James had NOTHING to do with the creation of CCOG. The idea for the CCOG began with Greg Perez. After Mr. Perez approached me about the idea, I approached Dave Sablan about joining Mr. Perez. Together, along with a few others, they came up with the idea for the corporation. But Msgr. James had NOTHING to do with it.

In fact, as I did with Fr. Paul, I made sure to keep Msgr. James away from anything that we the laity were doing in their behalf.

So why is Apuron doing this?

Apuron knows he is slipping fast with Rome. He desperately needs to shore up his crumbling facade. He doesn't know that it's too late. His lies have been thoroughly documented and arrived in Rome before he did.

Since Apuron is a bully, he doesn't know how to do anything else but bully. So he latched on to what he thinks is intel from this latest fool who hates Msgr. James more than he does and will now publicly punish Msgr. James in retaliation for John Toves and the CCOG.

What a messed up diocese this is. But it's exactly what we want, at least for now. We want Rome to see the manifestation of full-blown Kiko-ism. And there is no better place in the world for it than Agana, Guam and its puppet bishop.

Apuron was prophetic about one thing. This is certainly an "arduous and painful closure to your assignment".  But it will be his own.

REAL JUSTICE VS THE MONSTERS OF SAN RAMON

By Tim Rohr

In the video in this news story, Atty. Ed Caldie breaks into a passionate speech about "those who came forward" and how "we all got a huge gift from them for doing that."

A typical lawyer speech - especially one who is walking away with millions regardless of the outcome. But beyond that:

Who exactly "came forward?"

Other than Leo Tudela, Roy Quintanilla, Walter Denton, Roland Sondia, and Doris Concepcion - for her deceased son ("Sonny" Quinata), every one of the hundreds of other "survivors," save one or two others, have hidden behind their initials instead of putting their names and faces out there like the brave few just named.

Moreover...

it was ONLY the a-forenamed brave FEW who publicly testified in support of the bill that eventually gave the hundreds of other "survivors" the opportunity to sue the Archdiocese of Agana for damages.

REAL JUSTICE..

If there's going to be "justice" - if anything is left after the attorneys are done - then REAL "justice" should disproportionately compensate the very few who actually did "come forward," and DID NOT cower behind an attorney or their initials in a court filing.

And that's another thing.

Those FIRST FEW who actually did "come forward," came "forward" without an attorney and without a law to protect them from the WRATH of Apuron and his Goblins.

In fact, Apuron and his Goblins responded to these FIRST FEW with threats to sue civilly and canonically.

Here is one example:

Tim Rohr and his associates launched a vicious and calumnious attack on the Archbishop and the Church...The perpetrators of these calumnies have resorted to insults and violence revealing their true intention to destroy the Catholic Church and discredit the Archbishop by whatever means. Their method is to confuse and mislead the faithful, even to the point of inducing some to bring false testimony. This was predicted even before the first accusation was revealed.

Those who are orchestrating this campaign are inciting people into hatred of the Archbishop and the Catholic Church. They have produced scandal, confusion and grave errors with the cruel intent to injure the Archbishop, the Catholic Church in Guam and many other people of good will who have been outraged and harassed. Therefore, the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical and legal measures against those perpetrating these malicious lies.

And let's not forget the late John Toves who was and is still the real hero here.

It was John Toves who first pointed a public finger at Apuron.

It was John Toves who first marched on "Fortress Apuron" on San Ramon Hill.

And it was John Toves who was first thrown off that hill by Apuron's Goblin-in-Chief, the now disgraced and defrocked run-away, the former Fr. Adrian Cristobal.

Toves died without receiving a single cent for his courage.

NOTE: The references to Toves are many. See here to all references on JW.

SO: Let us see some REAL JUSTICE.

Let's see to it that the survivors who put their REAL NAMES and FACES out there when there was not only no hope of compensation, but the full expectation that they would be sued into poverty and oblivion by the "filthy" machine - including the New Jersey Mafia who protected Apuron and sought to crush anyone and everyone who stood up to "the filth in the Church."

"How much filth there is in the church, even among those who, in the priesthood, should belong entirely to Him. How much pride, how much self-sufficiency." - Pope Benedict XVI

And now let us speak of others who "came forward."

How about the Catholics who spent FIFTY-FOUR SUNDAYS marching in front of the Agana Cathedral during the 9:30am Mass - "Apuron's Mass."

Yes. What about them?

What about the sneers and the hate from fellow "Catholics" (?) who intentionally and brazenly pushed through the marchers' picket line Sunday after Sunday and who entered the once-hallowed walls of the Agana Cathedral and presented themselves for "Holy Communion" -  with nary a thought to the "FILTH" that was perpetrated from THAT same altar.

And what about the many Catholics who testified in support of the bill to lift the civil statute of limitations so that survivors could finally seek justice - EVEN THOUGH those same Catholics knew that they would have to pay the bill because the actual perpetrators would never be required to pay a single shekel?

Yes. What about them?

SETTLE THIS and give whatever is left to the real SURVIVORS who dared put their names and faces up against the MONSTERS OF SAN RAMON when they had nothing to gain and everything to lose.

NOTE TO HON: AS THE CHURCH GOES SO GOES THE WORLD.

To date, the Chancery Office of the Archdiocese of Agana, now headed by Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, has threatened legal action against the laity at least SIX TIMES. (Actually there are several more but this is all I had time for to pull up out of my files.)

NOVEMBER 28, 2014: "...defending the Church compels me to file a suit for defamation."
-Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron. Statement re allegations by John C. Toves

NOVEMBER 30, 2014: "...defending the Church compels me to file a suit for defamation."
- Anthony S. Apuron. November 30, 2014. Sunday homily at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Fiesta Mass

DECEMBER 05, 2014: "...you are hereby notified that any demands for an appointment or attempts to…confront the Archbishop on Chancery grounds or elsewhere will be responded to appropriately and in accordance with the law."
- Msgr. David C. Quitugua, Vicar General Archdiocese of Agana, to John C. Toves, threatening to call the police on Toves

JULY 5, 2015: "If you do not comply with this demand, Archbishop Apuron will have to pursue all available legal remedies, including seeking monetary damages for harm to his reputation and character, punitive damages, injunctive relief and an order that you pay court costs and attorney's fees. Your liability and exposure under such legal action will be considerable."
- Michelle R. Neal. Attorney for Anthony S. Apuron. Letter addressed to John Toves.

MAY 13, 2016: "...the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical measures with the Sacra Rota – the competent canonical tribunal – and filing civil lawsuit against those perpetrating these malicious lies."
- Fr. Edivaldo da Silva Oliveira. Archdiocese of Agana, Media Relations. Media Release threatening CCOG and Tim Rohr

MAY 31, 2016: "...the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical and legal measures against those perpetrating these malicious lies."
- Fr. Edivaldo da Silva Oliveira. Archdiocese of Agana, Media Relations. Media Release threatening Doris Concepcion and Tim Rohr

Yet, in today's Archdiocesan newspaper, Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, Apostolic Administrator for this same archdiocese, presumes to lecture us on how it is "Modern societies" which have "sharpened the tools of the law" and have led us to the "belief that wrongdoings can be solved simply by lawsuits..."

Hon's words are so typical of a church bureaucrat steeped in clericalism and infatuated with his own power: blame the people, blame the laity, blame "modern society" blame the world.

The civil case filed by Lujan and Wolff in behalf of Quintanilla, Concepcion, Denton, and Sondia, was the FIRST and only action by any member of the laity to respond with these so-called "sharpened tools" to the multiple threats coming from Hon's own chancery.

As the Church goes, so goes the world, Hon. And here you have led by example. By not condemning the actions and accusations against the laity by members of the clergy over whom (as you say) you have "the power," you align yourself with them and their threats.

You're a fake, Hon. A FAKE.

CLASSIC, MAY. JUST CLASSIC. LOL.

May call's Doris Concepcion a LIAR. (I'll come back to this.)

So Far Only One Alleged Victim

An anonymous commenter made the following statement, which can be found here:

This is my response:

First of all, the Federal Residual Exception is rarely used.  According to Birdsong's Law Blog:
It was intended that the residual exceptions would be used sparingly by the courts and only in rare and exceptional circumstances.9  The Advisory Committee cautioned that the residual exceptions “do not contemplate an unfettered exercise of judicial discretion, but they do provide for treating new and presently unanticipated situations which demonstrate trustworthiness within the spirit of the specifically stated exceptions”10
Secondly, in my country, a man is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.  And the accusations are called "allegations."  The judicial system of Guam and the United States was established to protect a person's rights especially the rights of the accused so he/she can get a fair trial.  This does not mean that the person accusing is telling a lie.

Recently, I posted a story about Cardinal Bernardin and Cardinal Pell.  Bernardin was also accused of sexual molestation in the 1970s by Stephen Cook.  However, this does not mean that he was lying. Cook later dropped the charges.  Cook later said that he had relied on people who told him things that were not true, "asserting that he is absolutely convinced of Bernardin's innocent.

Although the statutes of limitation prevents Mr. Quintanilla from bringing the Archbishop to court, it does not prevent the Archbishop from bringing Quintanilla to court.  For the past three years, we already know that the jungle has been desperately trying to remove Archbishop Apuron.  This was not the first time the Archbishop was accused of sexual molestation.   These are things that has happened so far:

  1. The first charge of sexual molestation came from John Toves in November, 2014.  John Toves was not molested, but he claimed that his cousin was sexually molested by Archbishop Apuron.  He spoke on behalf of his cousin whom he had never spoken to for several years.  And he heard of the sexual molestation of his cousin from other people. John Toves is known to be a good friend of Father Paul who even walked with him to the chancery and who was with him at the cathedral.  What does John Toves want?  He wants Father Paul and Monsignor James to be reinstated, and he wants the Archbishop to step down.  Although his relative never came forward, John called on other victims to step forward.  The Archbishop, on the other hand, said that he did not sexually molest John's cousin.
  2. Then on May 17, 2016, Roy Quintanilla came into the limelight of the media's cameras claiming that he was sexually abused by Archbishop Apuron.  His lawyer, who happened to be a relative of Monsignor James, was there representing him.  His reason for finally coming out after 40 years was because he learned that he was not the only victim, and has called out to other victims to step forward.  And what does Mr. Quintanilla want?  He wants the Archbishop to apologize to him and to step down.  The Archbishop, on the other hand, said he did not sexually molest him.
  3. Now today, a dead person from the grave comes out to claim that he was  sexually molested by the Archbishop.  Of course, the dead person cannot speak for himself.  His mother spoke on behalf of him.  Doris Concepcion is also a very close friend to the family of Roy Quintanilla.  And what does she want?  She wants the Archbishop to admit the truth and do what is best for the people of Guam.  The Archbishop, on the other hand, said he did not sexually molest her son.
So far, only ONE person has come out claiming sexual abuse.  John's cousin did not come out and neither did Joseph Quinata.  Only Roy Quintanilla came out.  The reason he came out was because he now understands that he is not the only victim and even continues to call for other victims to step forward.  Forty years ago, Mr. Quintanilla thought that he was the only one.  Today, he says that he is not the only victim.  However, he is the only alleged victim who came out.

SO HERE'S MY THOUGHTS ON THE ALLEGATION

As we know, John Toves, a former resident of Agat who served then-Father Apuron as an altar boy in the late 70's and a former seminarian at the minor seminary in Tai in the early 80's, has alleged that Archbishop Apuron (before he was made bishop) sexually molested a person whom Mr. Toves refers to as "a relative of mine" while both he (Toves) and his "relative" were at the seminary in Tai.

So what now?

As Archbishop Apuron has himself demonstrated in his recent removal of Fr. John Wadeson from priestly ministry, the seriousness of the charge is all that is needed to remove a cleric under the Archbishop's own zero-tolerance policy.

The only grounds Archbishop Apuron had for the removal of Wadeson was a forty year old allegation: Wadeson was alleged to have sexually molested two minors while serving at a school in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in the 1970's.

Fr. Wadeson is on record stating that no formal charges were ever brought forward, only an allegation. But Archbishop Apuron DID NOT NEED formal charges in order to remove Wadeson. By his own actions against Wadeson, Apuron demonstrated that all that was needed was the allegation, even if it was more than forty years old.

There is now a similar allegation against Archbishop Apuron. Whether it is true or not remains to be proven. However, again, as per the Archbishop's implementation of his own policy in his actions against Wadeson, no proof or truth or formal charges are needed for the removal of a cleric, including himself.

Thus, Archbishop Apuron, by virtue of his own policy and his own example of its implementation, MUST REMOVE HIMSELF and permit an independent investigation to move forward. (A temporary diocesan administrator will be appointed by Rome during this process.)

Whether he will do this or not IS the matter the MEDIA needs to examine. To not do this is to invite question of Apuron's influence into their news organizations. He has been known to bully them before.

Meanwhile, we will keep watch.

Here is a link to a google search of several stories about the Wadeson incident. Other stories can be referenced on this blog under the label "Fr. John Wadeson".

Here is a P.S.

Personally, I have always believed that the zero-tolerance approach to clergy sex abuse by the entire USCCB, and adapted for our own diocese, is stupid. Zero-tolerance makes someone guilty from the moment an allegation is made. It is extremely unjust and many good priests have been severely damaged by it.

Zero-tolerance was a reactionary move by the U.S. bishops to cover their own behinds. For decades, many of them stood by or slammed the door in the faces of concerned lay people (as happened to my father), when they came to complain. Once they could no longer hide what was happening, they reacted with a zero-tolerance policy that was meant to show how serious they were about addressing the problem.

But for the most part, it was a ruse, an attempt to get the glaring light of truth to shine some place else, an attempt to exonerate themselves and blame it on a few priests who they could throw to the wolves, priests who probably desperately needed help from their bishops to begin with. In the end, as we have seen, many priests have gone to jail, BUT NOT ONE BISHOP.

Archbishop Apuron may or may not have something to hide. If he does have something to hide, then adapting the zero-tolerance policy would have been a way to throw the dogs off the scent.

I have almost 1000 unpublished comments alleging much the same as John Toves. However, as per my policy, if you're going to name someone then you must also name yourself. John was the first person to name himself. However, John did not make the allegation against Apuron here. He made it first on KUAM. We linked to the interview but did not join in the allegation. John's allegation then appeared on PNC.

For our part, we are not banking on proving these allegations. That will be up to Mr. Toves. Well before these allegations of sexual molestation came to light, we had tons of evidence of Archbishop Apuron's consistent willingness to lie, to divide, to slander, and to wage war on Catholicism as we know it.

Our campaign to continue to expose all of this and more continues.

FROM JOHN TOVES TO AAA (EDITED)

Posted at the request of John Toves with my edits. There is no new information. Mr. Toves continues his attempt to confront AAA on what he believes was the sexual molestation of his relative.

to Archbishop
Hello Archbishop!

I hope this finds you in excellent health and spirits!

I guess you changed your cell phone number, so I am disappointed not being able to hear your wonderful voice.  "All good gifts around me.  Are sent from heaven above.  So thank the Lord, Oh thank the Lord, for all his love."  You sang that so beautifully then when I was thirteen years old!

Did you really accompany my relative from Guam on his way to St. Joseph's Seminary?  That was very nice of you, as I know you both XXXX in the cathedral rectory.

Ok, I didn't have the opportunity to ask you one more question about Chalan Pago, Father XXXXX, and the altar boys.  I think we got disconnected, or you hung up, or something.  I know you spent time with Father XXXX and time with the altar boys in XXXXX.  But, did you really allow them to dip into the church donation baskets  to "take whatever they wanted"?  I don't think that is right.  Would you be so kind as to clarify that for me?  I will be seeing you at mass and maybe you can tell me then.

I would also like to ask how you intend to get out of all this mess?  Maybe you can send me your new cell phone number so we can talk again.  Hopefully there won't be a signal problem.  "Can you hear me now...Can you hear me now?"

A most excellent holiday to you and I'll be seeing you!

John Charles Toves
