MARY AND THE MOSLEMS

"Mary and the Moslems" is the title of a chapter in a 1952 book by the late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. In this chapter Sheen wrote:

...at the present hour, the Moslems are beginning to rise again. If Moslemism is a heresy, as Hiliaire Belloc believes it to be, it is the only heresy that has never declined. Others have had a moment of vigor, then gone into doctrinal decay at the death of the leader, and finally evaporated in a vague social movement. Moslemism, on the contrary, has only had its first phase. There was never a time in which it declined, either in numbers, or in the devotion of its followers.

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY INTO HEAVEN

And while the Archdiocese of Agana does not regard it as a Holy Day of obligation (maybe our new bishop will change that!) I do. And I know many of you do. 

Go to Mass. This is Mary. Our Mother. The "Woman" of Genesis 3:15. The "Immaculate Conception." Conceived without sin so her body could never know corruption. 

The DOGMA of the Assumption of Mary was proclaimed on the Feast of All Saints, November 1, 1950, in the APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTION OF POPE PIUS XII: MUNIFICENTISSIMUS DEUS. Read it. It is beautiful.

MARY, THE NEW ARK OF THE COVENANT

We celebrate the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God throughout the Latin rite today. In honor of Mary, the Θεοτόκος, the “theotokos” or “God bearer”, I’d like to present a short audio clip of Catholic evangelist Steve Ray discussing the idea of Mary as the “new Ark of the Covenant”.

In this clip, Steve provides several astounding parallels between 2 Samuel 6:2-11 and Luke 1:39-44, and shows that the inspired writer of that gospel considered the Ark of the Covenant of the Old Testament to be a “type” or prefiguring of our Blessed Mother.  Read more.
