Letter: Neocatechumenal Way needs openness, transparency

"An oppression of dissent, including merciless censorship of content and comments at the Way’s semi-official Guam blog, is evidence of fear of openness and transparency. Reality should regain its true meaning as the things we see around us in the light of Catholic teaching."

Because of the significant events that have shaken our Catholic Church on Guam, it is indispensable to face the new realities of religious life to appreciate necessary changes that will ensue. Of particular interest is the future of the worldwide Catholic semi-charismatic movement, the Neocatechumenal Way, on Guam, which has played a significant role in Catholic life during the past 15 to 20 years.  CONTINUED

I will say this for Zoltan. He was NEVER afraid. He NEVER hid. And he is right to call out the cowards who hide behind their rocks but have no problem throwing stones at those of us who put our names and faces to our beliefs. Good on you, Zoltan. You are worthy warrior.

Rohr's purpose of digging up any information on Zoltan was to get him in trouble with his job. He managed to dig up information that Zoltan wrote about 11 years ago. Notice Rohr's last statement? It was addressed to Dr. Underwood. While it is true that Zoltan made some negative remarks about people with Aspergers Syndrome, Rohr was only telling half the truth. The next day, this is what Zoltan stated:

That was what Zoltan wrote the next day after he made those negative remarks. He apologized and retracted his previous statement. This was what Rohr omitted from his blog. Telling half-truths while omitting pertinant information and then addressing Zoltan's boss with the intention of getting him in trouble at work is not freedom of speech. It is a tactic of manipulation.

I do not know if you have been keeping up with current events. I agree that The NCW should be obedient to Archbishop Byrnes because he is the Coadjutor Archbishop of Agana. The NCW has been obedient when he instructed us to celebrate the Mass in the church.

However, Anonymous 1:39 pm is correct. Archbishop Byrnes is afraid to go against the mafia of this island. He fears persecution. The Archdiocese is not controlled by the Archbishop. It is controlled by CCOG.

Oh, yeah? The new target of the Timmy-Chucky duo is the woman beast who marries the XY chromosome only to divorce, destroy and deprave him of financial recources, thus swirling the unsuspecting poor guy into hopeless suicide. Lol!

Never mind depression, poverty, drugs and an overall feeling of hopelessness caused by social insensitivity. Where is genuine solidarity among members of the society? The abyss between the poor and the rich is getting wider by the day denying any chance to the underprivileged to make ends meet. 

How about the shark lawyers who make themselves fat on the misery of the Catholic church? What a successful endeavor you gave them, Timmy-Chucky, you may pat yourselves on the shoulder! The same lawyers have made themselves rich on the misery of male divorcees by getting them out of their wealth in the name of justice. Capisce?

In my humble opinion, if there were some chances to come to a standstill in the controversies around the church, these chances were blown by a small, very arrogant and well organized group, gathering aorund the Jungle Watch blog site, that pushed forward a pre-meditated agenda with no regard to reason or basic decency.

At my testimony at the Legislature on Public Law 33-187 on August 1st 2016, I warned against inflicting unlimited damages on the Catholic Church. While I expressed my sympathy for abuse victims, I pointed out that a flood gate of open-ended litigations for reparation is a bad idea. More care should have been paid to the wording of the bill. But legislators did not heed this warning.

In addition, I internally expressed my displeasure with the handling of the Yona real estate property by the local leadership of the Neocatechumenal Way. Yes, it is true. The membership of NCW were not all happy about the questionable dealings around this nice piece of gift from a wealthy benefactor for a Catholic Seminary. But we could not make an impact from inside. Archbishop Byrnes had to use his authority to settle the issue. The Catholic Church has power to use with authority to reign in on waywards elements of any religius movement inside it purview.

Citing conflict of interest or appearance of bias, all eight trial court judges in the Superior Court of Guam have filed 84 notices of disqualification from cases related to alleged sexual abuse by Catholic priests. 

Among the judges’ reasons for recusals are their relationships with either the alleged victims of clergy sex abuses or the accused priests, including Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron, as well as other defendants, such as the Archdiocese of Agana.  CONTINUED

Regarding the public hearing on Bill 326-33 on Monday, August 1st, 2016, I have to repeat: this was a very curious legislative act, full of irregularities that Guamanian people had to experience. It was the 3rd day of testimonies in the matter, after 2 days of the same hearing was conducted the week before.

First of all, the Legislature's web-site featured a different bill from what was distributed as a hand-out at the hearing. Let me emphasize, the only available text for Bill 326-33 at the official web-site was Frank Blas Jr.'s original bill. However, the bill had been "amended", actually thrown out and completely rewritten by Bob Klietzkie from the audience during a hearing session the week before. The text of the new bill, "as amended" was not made available, except by an unofficial paper hand-out distributed at the August 1st hearing.

I was greatly surprised when I had to see that the public hearing was not on Frank Blas Jr.'s bill anymore, but on a different "amended" bill written by someone in the audience. It was a barely disguised outsourcing of legislative power by a legislative committee. The legislative power was outsourced to a member of a group of radical bigots who openly admitted they wanted to use the bill for their own purpose.

LEGISLATION TO ADDRESS ABORTION IS SIGNED INTO LAW - ZOLTAN TRASHES IT

Because of other news, I had to put off posting about the passage of Bill 168-33 which was signed into law last month as Public Law 33-218. The bill was introduced by Senator Frank Aguon, Jr., who has been making good on his pro-life commitment, not just in his personal life, but in his public life as well. 

The new law strengthens the abortion reporting law with refined procedures and realistic penalties for non-compliance. Since the founding of The Esperansa Project in 2008, non-compliance in abortion reporting has been one of our major targets. While everyone can bemoan the tragedy of abortion and recommend a variety of ways to address it, the beginning point is accurate data and accurate data we did not have.

She says a "group of Catholics..." well, a rather minuscula group of mostly manamko retirees who got bored of playing cards and made for themselves just another hobby club, the CCoG! This is one of the lowest accusations against the Catholic Church on Guam that we have to read and endure from a newspaper that is supposed to give a balanced reporting on all issues of public interest. PDN is directly tied to the extreme liberal worldview of its mother mainland organization, the USA Today. Accordingly, it has a vile agenda of destruction of religious belief.

David Sablan's CCoG is one of the most despicable organization on island with a vested interest of causing extreme monetary damages to the Catholic Church. David Sablan is acting on this monetary interest, promulgated by the so-called Jungle hate group, to drag the church to court on both valid and invalid charges. 

We still have to learn about the validity of any accusation against Father Adrian who was sent to pursue canon law studies by Archbishop Byrnes. PDN is not doing well to promote a witch hunt mentality serving a handful of extreme liberal church radicals whose aim is to take over church governance from the rightfully appointed authorities of the Catholic Church.

If this bill is signed into law, there won't be any limitation to the damages that can be inflicted on Guam and its people. Make no mistake, the scope of this bill is not restricted to the Catholic Church! The same bill applies to all institutions/ nurseries/ kindergardens/ schools/ corporations/ etc. 

Just imagine the sheer number of lawsuits that will engulf as soon as greedy criminal elements realize that claiming childhood abuse from as far as 30-40-50 or even 60 years ago against any institution/ nursery/ kindergarden/ school/ corporation/ etc. can pay off millions of dollars right into their pockets... Wow! That will be the day when the society as an entity of people sharing a common culture will collapse. Also, that will be the day you can say goodbye to common sense in politics forever!
