REMEMBERING BOB KLITZKIE...WITH THE BOOK HE WANTED WRITTEN

By Tim Rohr

The anniversary of Bob Klitzkie's passing (April 2, 2025) will be in a few weeks. Bob was an important, if not daily presence in my life for nearly two decades. A whole book could be written about our adventures, and maybe I'll write it.

Meanwhile, I have decided to write another book, a book that Bob had been urging me to write for several years and till the day he died: the story of how a ragtag group of laypeople, mostly elderly, and some even in wheelchairs and walkers, banded together to bring down the sex trafficking regime that ruled the Archdiocese of Agana for decades.

While I was the face of that "lay movement," Bob was the brains behind it. That should come as no surprise. Anybody who knew Bob knew he was the "brains" behind just about anything worthwhile.

I sure miss him, and I could certainly use his brains now. But he taught me well, and maybe he's teaching me still.

The title of the book, Bob's book, at least for now, is:

ORCHESTRATED

How a blog took down an archbishop and exposed the largest clergy sex abuse rampage in the whole Catholic world.

I chose to call the book ORCHESTRATED, because, as Apuron's sex abuse empire began to crumble, I was accused by Apuron and his Neocat gestapo led by the now defrocked Fr. Adrian Cristobal and Fr. Edivaldo Olivera, of orchestrating this "gotterdamerung" for personal gain.

They were right. It was orchestrated. It had to be. Apuron held all the power and there was no law at the time which would have allowed his victims to sue him. Meanwhile Apuron publicly threatened to sue his accusers, and specifically me:

"Tim Rohr and his associates launched a vicious and calumnious attack on the Archbishop...Those who are orchestrating this campaign are inciting people into hatred of the Archbishop and the Catholic Church...Therefore, the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical and legal measures against those perpetrating these malicious lies."- Archdiocese of Agana, Media Release, May 31, 2016

So yah, it was orchestrated. But while I was the orchestra conductor, Bob was the composer. So in memory of a great man with a great brain, I am sharing a draft of the Preface here.

God bless you, Bob. Hundreds and probably thousands of innocent children, once buried by the clerics who hoped to bury their crimes forever, now have a voice, and hopefully, at last, justice.

ORCHESTRATED

Preface

In May and June of 2016, three men, then in their 50's, came forward to publicly accuse Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, then the Archbishop of Agana, Guam, of sexually molesting them when they were in their teens.

No one could predict that the testimony of these three would lead to what is, per capita, the largest clergy sex abuse scandal in the entire Catholic world. Three years after Roy Quintanilla, Walter Denton, and Roland Sondia testified on a city street in Hagatna (Agana), Guam, a reporter for the Pacific Daily News, a local paper, would write:

“Per capita, Guam has about 171 claims of clergy sex abuse per 100,000 people — well beyond the about 12 clergy sex abuse lawsuits per 100,000 people in Boston, whose clergy sex abuse scandal was portrayed in the movie, "Spotlight." The greater Boston area has a population of more than 4.7 million, compared with Guam's 163,000.”  - Eugenio Gilbert, H. 2019, Oct. 27. From a culture of silence to cover-ups: How Guam ended up with 280 clergy sex abuse claims. Pacific Daily News.

In short, Guam’s clergy sex abuse scandal, at the time the archdiocese declared bankruptcy in 2019, was, per capita, fourteen times the size of the Boston scandal which inspired an Academy Award winning movie.

How could this happen in an island community that was (and still is) deeply Catholic and fiercely familial? The short answer, for now, is because Guam is both deeply Catholic and fiercely familial.

Being “deeply Catholic,” locals, for decades, if not centuries, had what could be described as an almost superstitious reverence for the priest. The priest could do no wrong, and God help you if you accused the priest of wrongdoing. As I personally heard from several victims of clergy sex abuse, the mere mention of an impropriety by a priest was met with a slap in the face from a mother or even a grandmother, followed by a severe warning to “never talk about the priest that way again.”

Being "fiercely familial” would normally be considered a strength, a good thing. And it usually was. However, it also meant woe to whoever brought shame on the family. And so, even if parents knew or suspected their child’s story to be true, saving (family) face was the paramount principle, so the child was told to never speak of it again.

I am not speculating. I am repeating here in writing what I was told many times by clergy sex abuse victims who, even after many years, still spoke in hushed and fearful tones.

Given the twisted reverence for the clergy and the cultural imperative of saving family face, it’s not hard to see how Guam’s children, particularly boys, became a “happy hunting ground” for perverted clerics for so many years. (Some lawsuits in the Guam debacle dated incidents back to the 1950’s.)

You might be thinking “those poor boys” (they were mostly boys), and you would be right. With your pastor raping you and then threating “no one will believe you” - as Walter Denton testified, and your mother punishing you for even mentioning such a thing - as Doris Concepcion testified, so many boys, hundreds that we know of only because they filed lawsuits, but probably thousands that we don’t know of, had nowhere to turn but on themselves, a fact tragically demonstrated in Doris Concepcion’s story, copied here in relevant part:

Concepcion said… her son started to act out, sometimes violently, when he was an altar boy in Agat.

“My son tried to stab (Apuron), attack him, and tried to burn the priest’s house down, and I would punish my son,” Concepcion said. “(My son) would just say,‘Am I the devil’s son, mom? Am I that bad?’ And he kept repeating that to me.”

She said her son…often talked about committing suicide and started to tell people he was Jewish. As an adult, he became addicted to drugs and would disappear for long periods of time, she said.

“I didn’t know (about the molestation) until my son was 38 years old when he passed away, and that’s when I found out,” Concepcion said.

“And he was molested and I was giving the priest, giving him permission to do it to my son. He was so afraid to tell me.”

Concepcion said she trusted Apuron at the time and believed in his every word.

“(Apuron) would ask me if he can have Sonny, because Sonny would do this and that, and he needs help around the rectory,

” Concepcion said. “And then he wants Sonny to spend the night with him so they can go and do something for the church, and he needed help. Sonny would retaliate, and say, ‘No, mama, I don’t wanna go,’and I would punish him. No, you have to go, because Father Apuron needs help.”

Concepcion said her son told her about being molested just as he was being taken into surgery in May 2005. He did not survive the procedure.

“He said, ‘Mom, I know I’m not the devil’s son.’ I said,‘No, you’re not’. And he said, ‘Come closer to me Mama, give me a hug.’ And I did," Concepcion said. And he said, ‘Mom, I was molested by Father Apuron.’ And I said,‘Who?’ He said,'Remember the priest in Agat? He molested me when I was an altar boy.’ And my heart just dropped, because he was dying. I didn’t even know.”

She never spoke to her son again. She said she tried to ask him if he had been raped by Apuron, but her son only gestured as he was being taken into surgery.

Eugenio, H. 2016, May 31. “Mother of deceased man accuses Apuron of molesting son.” Pacific Daily News.

Per Doris’ account, Sonny, until the day he died, nearly thirty years after Apuron raped him as a 9 year old, believed he was “the devil’s son:” that he, Joseph “Sonny” Quinata, was the evil one, the bad one, and not the clerical pervert who raped him.

It’s not hard to see why Sonny Quinata turned to drugs and suicidal ideation. How many others did the same? Guam’s suicide rate is more than double the national average. And as far as I know, no one has ever attempted to connect the dots between what we now know is the dirtiest diocese in the world and Guam’s suicide hemmorage. Well, I’m connecting it.

As important as it is, investigating why this happened is not, here, my main objective. Rather, my objective is to recount - as much as I can remember - as the subtitle of this book sets out: “How a blog brought down an archbishop and exposed the largest clergy sex abuse scandal in the whole Catholic world.”

And beyond that, my hope is to share with the rest of the Catholic world the power that lay people actually have in rooting out this “filth in the Church” as Pope Benedict once deemed it. For, as far as I know, Guam is the only place in the Catholic world where the outing of both said “filth” and the clerics who propagated it, was wrought, not by lawyers, not by the media, not by the government, but by ordinary lay people who said “Hell no, we aren’t going to take it anymore,” and then did something about it.

So let’s begin.

AND SO THEY CRUSHED HIM. PART II. WHY AND HOW.

By Tim Rohr

This is Part II of AND SO THEY CRUSHED HIM

In the wake of the Archdiocesan announcement about Archbishop Byrnes being away on extended medical leave, and the otherwise probing report by Kandit News suggesting a bit more sinister scenario (to which JW responded “And so they crushed him”), perhaps its time to look back on a few questions that some of us have had from the outset of Byrnes’ appointment to Guam.

Given the scandals that began to break in 2013 and which eventually led to Byrnes’ appointment as coadjutor archbishop to the Archdiocese of Agana (“AOA”) in 2016, it was always a suspicion of those of us close to the action that the Byrnes’ appointment was not just odd, but smelled of meddling by “The Kikos.”

Note: “The Kikos” on this blog refers to the political hierarchy of the Neocatechumenal Way and not its ordinary members, who otherwise are usually just regular Catholics looking to deepen their faith.

FIRST, at the time of Byrnes’ appointment, AOA was perhaps the most troubled diocese in the whole Catholic world.

Let’s review:

1) Apuron’s surreptitious deeding away of the “Yona Property” * to The Kikos had been uncovered;

2) Four people had come forward publicly and alleged sexual abuse by Apuron beginning the exposure of what would become the largest sex abuse scandal in the Catholic world;

3) Apuron had fled Guam and had surfaced at the Vatican under what appeared to be the protection of Pope Francis;

4) the Vatican had appointed an Apostolic Administrator (Savio Hon Tai Fai), a lieutenant of "The Red Pope," of whom we will say more later; and

5) due much to Hon’s mismanagement - or The Red Pope's directions to Hon, lay Catholics had risen up and had pushed through legislation lifting the civil statute of limitations on sex abuse of minors, opening the door to litigation and bankruptcy for AOA.

* The “Yona Property” is in reference to the former Accion Hotel Property that was converted in the RMS seminary in or about 2002. The property was estimated to be valued at or around 75 MILLION DOLLARS by then-AOA counsel, Edward Terlaje.

ORCHESTRATED? - PART 6

ORCHESTRATED? - PART 5

Continued from Part 4

On July 1, 2016, at 11:43AM, the law firm of Lujan & Wolff, filed  Civil Case No. CV 0552-16 in behalf of Roy T. Quinatnilla, Walter G. Denton, Roland P.L. Sondia, and Edith Doris Concepcion against Archbishop of Agana, a Corporation Sole; Anthony Sablan Apuron, an individual’ and DOES 1-50 Inclusive.

Here's how it happened.

In short, my plan worked. Once I learned that a certain neocat presbyter (Edivaldo) had been "promoted" to Apuron's spokesperson, I saw my opportunity.

Of course Eddie the Waldo, as he was nicknamed, wasn't really promoted. He simply barged in and took over. And even though his near-Academy Award winning role as the fist pumping director of "The Deacon goes Dakon," starring the inimitable Deacon Frank Tenorio, the Waldo's real success (which was ours) came when he began releasing unsigned media statements.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

I had already arranged for Apuron's victims to come forward and even found them legal protection. But because the statute of limitations had passed, I knew that the most they would have would be an opportunity to make their story public and that's it. Apuron would deny the charges like he did with Toves, and go on doing what he does best: ruining people's lives.

I needed a way to get around the statute of limitations and get Apuron into court where he could be deposed under penalty of perjury. I knew once we could do that, not only could we learn more about the pervert that is Apuron, but that he might spill the beans about the other clergy in his network of cover-ups - including a priest we nicknamed "Rude-ee" who allegedly had been siphoning off local parish funds and sending said funds to the Philippines.

There was another priest whose girlfriend's husband killed himself, and the other priest who raped the teenager in the rectory. And there was much more.

Once the Edivaldo became the "spokes-monkey," I saw my chance. I arranged for ads to be printed in both local papers (Pacific Daily News and Guam Daily Post), showing specific dates and places where Apuron had been assigned. The idea was not so much to find more victims, but to get the spokes-monkey to do something stupid.

It worked.

On May 13, the spokes-monkey spit out two pages of vomit and threatened to sue me and the Concerned Catholics of Guam. I went on record saying "Bring it on." I did that to enrage the spokes-monkey. I knew what was coming on May 17 (Roy Quintanilla) and I wanted him worked into a white-hot lather.

I couldn't believe my luck when the spokesmonkey was caught fist-pumping in the reflection off the glass in the Dakon Tenorio video. And then he was stupid enough to reshoot the thing and release it to the media, covering up the glass with a picture of the Blessed Mother. LOL. As if we didn't already have the first one.

But I didn't have what I wanted yet. To sue Apuron, I needed the spokemonkey to call Roy a liar. You see, I knew the spokes-monkey would not sign his press releases, so as long as they were on Apuron's letterhead, we could make the spokes-monkey's words, Apuron's.

Then on May 31, I got what I was waiting for.

Doris Concepcion had gone national, telling of her son's last moments during which he told his mother that Apuron had molested him. The spokes-monkey went ballistic, accusing Doris of spreading "malicious and calumnious accusations against the Archbishop." PERFECT!

But still, to get to Apuron, I needed something more. I needed the statement to be on Apuron's letterhead and unsigned. Had the Edivaldo signed it, we could only go after the Edivaldo. However, if it was unsigned, we could go after the, Apuron, Cristobal, Quitugua and the whole rotten bunch.

And sure enough, right on cue, the spokes-monkey came through: an unsigned statement calling the victims liars -  and on Apuron's letterhead.

By not signing the statement, Lujan & Wolff can now name everyone and anyone as a defendant who may have had access to or even influence over someone who had access to Apuron's letterhead. In layman's terms, Edivaldo opened the door for the Plaintiffs to pretty much name everybody in the Chancery and even RMS (which I will explain another time.)

So thanks to the ambitious Edivaldo, Apuron's victims now have an opportunity to finally bring their perp to justice...and as we shall see: Edivaldo, too. And given that Edivaldo is Apuron's "fave".... It's hard not to believe in Karma.

LOL.

Orchestrated? You bet.

ORCHESTRATED? - PART 4

A Night at the Opera: Wagner’s Götterdämmerung

I keep hearing the question about why Apuron's victims are coming forward now. One particular talk show host continues to bring it up, perhaps for no other reason than it makes for interesting speculation about a conspiracy. I've called in and answered the question on his show but I haven't heard him use my explanation when the question arises, so I'm going to detail it here for the record.

In doing so, I am having to fast forward a bit from my storyline as we left it in Part 3, but no matter, we'll get back to it. In fact, it probably makes for a better story to jump forward and backward since all the pieces tie together and ultimately are connected to one large cover up of Apuron's horrific acts.

I already explained in Part 1 how Apuron went to Rome and tried to shut me up by getting the Grand Master of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem to write me what was functionally an order to cease and desist. I further explained how I wondered why he did that as it seemed out of all proportion to what I was doing at the time, merely blogging about his already very public battle with Father Paul.

In hindsight, the real reason Apuron needed to shut me up was because my blog was beginning to provide a forum for secrets that were supposed to remain secrets, but now, under the cover of anonymity on a very public blog, those secrets might leak out.

In late 2013, the page views were exploding. I remember hitting 5000, 10,000, 15,0000, 20,000. It seemed unreal. I could also see that the hits to the blog were coming from around the world. There was some serious interest and I really did not know why.

Walter Cometh

My understanding is that Walter Denton came to Guam sometime in the summer of 2015 for the funeral of a relative. At a family gathering he overheard talk about Apuron and the growing problems of the local church. According to a woman present at the time, Walter apparently blurted out that he had been molested by Apuron when he was an altar boy in Agat.

The account was related by the woman to Patti Arroyo on her talk show on August 19, 2015. I was on the phone with Patti at the time and we were speaking about the allegations made by John Toves who had called in earlier. You can listen to the whole call here.

I am already on record several times saying that I had heard of the "Agat boys" rumors for years, especially after having moved to Agat 20 years ago. The rumor was always the same: Apuron, when he was pastor of Mt. Carmel parish in Agat in the 1970's, had molested several boys. No one ever knew any names, but the rumor never went away.

And then it happened

Then, on Januray 15, 2014, about a year and a half before Walter returned to Guam for his relative's funeral, what Apuron feared - and the reason he tried to get a Cardinal in Rome to shut me up - happened. Someone left this:

Oh, so now SNAP is on the Archbishop's side? Wait for those boys in Agat to speak up...then we'll see what side they take.

It was then followed a few comments later by this:

What boys in Agat are you referring to? You creating a whole different mess. There is already enough drama!
The date/time stamp is hyperlinked so you can click on it to go to the original comment and view the context.

All the key words were there: Archbishop, boys (plural), Agat. However, this comment sounded like the commenter knew "those boys."

Still I wasn't interested in pursuing this. One can see from my posts at the time that I never addressed it. I was much more interested in exposing the absolutely vile and canonically illegal actions Apuron was taking against Fr. Paul.

January of 2014 was when Apuron and Fr. Paul were publicly engaged in Fr. Paul's demand for an apology from Apuron for what he said about him at the clergy retreat the previous October.  At the retreat, Apuron had insinuated that Fr. Paul was in a homosexual relationship with the former parish employee whom Apuron had ordered Fr. Paul to fire. Apuron had only feigned an apology and told Fr. Paul to "cool it."

In hindsight, the timing is "ironic." Apuron's false accusation about Fr. Paul being in a sexual relationship, occasioned the first ever public mention of Apuron's sexual and psychological mutilation of young boys.

Back to the phone call with Patti and the woman from Agat.

After the comments just copied above, this phone call was the second public mention of the events of 40 years ago. And it was an arrow straight through the heart. The woman calling was the daughter of a man who had served the parish for many years, and had known Apuron well. The man let his children know that upon his death, Apuron was NOT to be the priest who presided at his funeral. The woman then said "it was then that I knew that my father knew something."

Walter's name was not mentioned in the phone call, but somebody was listening who knew who the woman on the radio was referring to. It was another woman who had known "Tony" well, and also knew Walter. (I was to meet this woman later.)

The woman who "knew Tony well" got a hold of John Toves. I'm not sure what happened step by step, but John, who had also been an Agat altar boy, knew Walter, and sent him a friend request on Facebook. Walter accepted. After a couple of communications, John recommended that Walter call me. He did.

I found out that Walter had already sent his account to Rome. I didn't know how he got around to doing this until I heard Walter talk of it during his interviews here with the media a couple weeks ago. According to Walter, he had approached a lawyer friend of his who had instructed him to write "the nuncio" and to be as detailed as possible.

Some may wonder what prompted Walter to do this after 40 years and it was no doubt two things.

First, unlike the other two who have come forward so far, Walter had confronted his molester some 20 years later at a party in Washington state. Apuron's treatment of him at this meeting apparently angered Walter all the more. As compensation for raping him, Apuron gave Walter a picture of the Virgin Mary, a CD of Apuron singing, and a picture of himself. Walter recounted this encounter a couple of different times on talkshows when he was here in Guam recently and you can hear the disgust in Walter's voice as if it happened yesterday.

The second thing which seemed to have prompted Walter was his hearing about all the hell Apuron was causing during Walter's visit to Guam in the summer of 2015. This seems to have caused him to blurt out that Apuron had molested him. Whatever moved him, it is quite apparent from hearing any of Walter's talks about what Apuron did to him that the scars he bears are just below the surface, and probably merely hearing Apuron's name after 40 years caused him to snap and decide to actually do something about it.

Walter had already done something about it when he called me. He had sent his letter to Rome at the instruction of his attorney friend. I asked for a copy of his letter. Walter sent it to me on 9/11/15. I didn't realize it was 9/11 until I looked at the email again just now. Hmmmm. (Actually, I now remember that Walter emailed me the same day I spoke with him. So my first personal encounter with him was also on 9/11.)

In his email cover note, Walter told me that the Vatican office he sent his letter to had advised him to get an attorney. Walter advised that he didn't have money for an attorney and that he did not think his letter was going anywhere. After reading the letter, which contained the most horrid details of the night Apuron raped him, I decided I was going to help Walter.

I had guessed that the Vatican office which had responded to Walter had advised him to get an attorney because Rome was not about to take action against a sitting bishop with little more than a letter (though for an ordinary priest, they certainly would have - which is unfortunate). I knew that in order for Rome to take Walter seriously we were going to have to find another victim.

(I will insert here that at the time I had also tried to get Walter an attorney. I set up a meeting with a Guam attorney who was in the states at the time to meet with Walter. I understood that the meeting took place. I never heard why the attorney decided not to take the case, but it may have been for the same reason the Vatican did not take it: 1) it involved a bishop, and 2) there was only one victim and nothing else with which to corroborate Walter's story.)

Walter had mentioned that he knew there were other boys. I asked him if he knew who they were. He said he did but that they did not want to come forward. I asked him to keep working on them because we needed another victim.

Meanwhile, I got back to the Vatican office and advised them that Walter did not have the money for an attorney, and even if he did, the statute of limitations would prevent him from taking any legal action against Apuron. But regardless of Walter's ability to find another victim who would come forward or to take legal action, I advised the Vatican official that Rome at least had the duty to confront Apuron personally and ask him if the allegations were true.

I did not hear back from the Vatican official after that, but a few months later Walter told me that he had gotten a call from Bishop Olmsted, the bishop of Phoenix, the diocese where Walter lives. Apparently the Vatican office Walter had contacted - and I had followed up with - had taken action. I don't know if they ever confronted Apuron. The nature of Bishop Olmsted's call was pastoral. He wanted to help Walter however he could.

Stop for a moment and contrast Bishop Olmsted's action toward Walter with that of Archbishop Hon - the then-Apostolic Administrator for the Archdiocese of Agana.

Olmsted was doing what the Church and his own priesthood required him to do. He did not try to determine if Walter's story was true. He simply and personally reached out to him and offered him support in whatever way Walter was in need.

Hon not only did not do that, Hon has effectively mocked the accounts of Roy, Doris, Walter and Roland (Apuron's initial accusers), and during a sermon, publicly compared the accounts of these victims with a story about a generic story about a woman who had falsely accused a bishop.

Since John Toves had been an altar boy in Agat, and since Walter had said that he knew that Apuron had molested other boys, I asked John to write down the names of as many altar boys as he could remember and send it to me. He did.

At this point (around October) I also lost touch with Walter for awhile. He didn't return my emails or my calls. I realized that Walter had no reason to trust me. The Church he had loved and served had crapped on him and up to that point, and as far as he knew, his letter had been ignored. I knew I had to find another victim.

R.S.

I poured through the list John sent me. I had a bit of a tip. Walter had shared the initials of one of the boys with me: "R.S." That's it.

On the list John sent was the name "Roland Sondia." (R.S.). I googled the name and found that Roland Sondia still lived and worked in Guam. By coincidence Roland's company was doing business just then with a friend of mine and he was meeting with Roland on a regular basis. I asked my friend to approach Roland and see how he might respond to the name "Apuron."

Meanwhile, I got a tip from another friend. I mentioned the name Roland Sondia to him and he said that "yes," he knew who he was and had seen him at family functions. In fact, he had been talking about Apuron to him recently and Roland had responded in a strange way saying that Apuron "had problems," and it was obvious that Roland did not want to talk about him.

I pressed my friend who was doing business with Roland to meet with him soon. He did. I don't know the content of that meeting but the answer came back affirmative. Roland had been molested by Apuron. Now there were two. I sent word to the Vatican office. I still did not know how we were going to go forward.

My friend had let Roland read Walter's letter, and apparently it prompted Roland to call a friend in Hawaii who had also been an altar boy with Roland. Roy Quintanilla answered, and answered "yes," he had been molested too. Now there were three.

Soon thereafter, Roy and Walter flew to Guam to meet with Roland. All three agreed they wanted nothing more than to confront Apuron personally and privately and have him take responsibility for what he did to them. But while they were here, they also began reaching out to other former altar boys and names started popping up.

I sat down with them at a meeting a couple days later and asked them to consider going public. My reason was that there were certainly others who had suffered as they had, and may not come forward on their own.

Indeed, not even these three were willing to come forward until they had learned about each other. They agreed. They knew what Apuron would do to them if they did and so did I. We would have to be careful as to how we went about this.

ORCHESTRATED? - PART 3

Continued from Part 2

I want to begin Part 3 with a copy of my last thought from Part 2:

I was angry because of what I had seen coming for ten years, and had even warned about: the neocats had finally assembled what they thought was enough force for a complete take over of the diocese, and the first order of business was to get rid of Fr. Paul and then Msgr. James - the two most like to succeed Apuron.

I will get to why Fr. Paul and Msgr. James had to be gotten rid of, but first I will address the part about the Neocats (i.e. Gennarini et al.) assembling "enough force for a complete take over of the diocese."

During these meetings at the chancery dealing with how to engage the same-sex legislation, in addition to the Neocat-prespbyter/RMS professor Walsh (already mentioned), there was another Neocat-presbyter, a certain Fr. Giovanni Rizzo, a canon lawyer (or purported to be) and vice-rector at the fake Redemptoris Mater Seminary (in Yona).

Rizzo was a smooth professional. At first I saw him as an ally. I had been publicly fighting the war against same-sex union legislation all by myself for many long months.. I had asked Apuron for help, but he was unable to find a single person willing to publicly join me in engaging the very public war I was having with Senator BJ Cruz. With a canon lawyer on the team, I thought I at least had a resource.

Up to this point I was neither here nor there about the Neocatechumenal Way. I saw the potential danger, but men like Rizzo went a long way to allaying my fears. Professional, reasonable, outwardly orthodox - all seemed well. But then he did something that pulled back the curtain, and I realized just how nefarious the Neo-Cult agenda was.

For most, it would appear to be a small thing. In fact, it was only one word: "in". Rizzo had written an article for a special edition of the PDN celebrating the 10th anniversary of RMS. The article was entitled "A Milieu For A New Aesthetic." In the article Rizzo pretended to quote the Catechism of the Catholic Church (he annotated it with a paragraph number) when he wrote "the altar is in the center of the church."

As we know, the Neo's place their "table" in the center of their "worship" space and gather around it. This placement of the table was the object of criticism and correction in Cardinal Arinze's 2005 Instruction to Kiko Arguello (the Neo found) when he wrote that the Neo's:

"...must pass from the widespread manner of receiving Holy Communion in its communities (seated, with a cloth-covered table placed at the center of the church instead of the dedicated altar in the sanctuary) to the normal way in which the entire Church receives Holy Communion."

Rizzo's article not only rejected that Instruction, he, a canon lawyer and the current vice-rector of RMS, bastardized the Catechism to do it.

The Catechism states clearly that the altar IS the center of the Church. It does NOT say that the altar "IS IN" the center of the church. I wrote Apuron about this aberration and he blew me off. A few days later I confronted Rizzo about it directly, and he blew me off as well.

If I had any doubt about the Neocatechumenal Way and its agenda to undermine the Catholic Church, it was now gone.

If a bishop and the vice-rector of "our" seminary were willing to bastardize the Catechism of the Catholic Church to justify their agenda and then essentially say "screw you, we'll do what we want" when confronted about it, I knew we were in for trouble.

You can read more about the Rizzo abomination here.

Now, fast-forward to the events which took out Fr. Paul and Msgr. James.

Both priests had to be eliminated.

Fr. Paul, pastor of the largest parish on the island, had prevented the NCW from entering his parish, not by prohibiting it (he had no authority to do so), but by simply requiring Pius and "the Tall Woman" to conform to what Rome permitted. (Read about Fr. Paul's encounter with them here.)

Requiring the NCW to conform to what Rome permitted drove the Tall Woman into a rage and made Fr. Paul a marked man. The NCW needed control over the Dededo parish and Fr. Paul was in the way. But how to get rid of him?

A few years later they found a way.

You can read the whole story in "Target equals Priest" or at the above tab, "The Removal of Fr. Paul," but the short of it is this:

While Fr. Paul was off-island for health reasons around 2008, a former convict, released from prison in 2000, was hired by the parish as a maintenance man. Upon his return, Fr. Paul reviewed the employee's file and saw nothing to prevent him from continuing in his employ. And, over the next few years everyone got along quietly.

In 2010, a local law was enacted making registration as a sex offender retroactive, placing the man's name on the list. (Now that we know of Apuron's own history of sex offenses, it is easier to understand why Apuron wanted to appear to be a champion against sex crimes: obviously for his own cover.)

In 2011, Apuron ordered Fr. Paul to fire the man. Fr. Paul complied, however, the man, who, through Fr. Paul, had been reconciled to his Catholic faith, continued to assist Fr. Paul personally. I will explain the timing of Apuron's subsequent action in a bit, but in 2013, Apuron and his Neocats (i.e. Gennarini et al.) made their move on Fr. Paul, accusing him of not terminating the employment of the former convict.

When Fr. Paul produced the evidence that he had terminated the man as ordered, Apuron and (Adrian) Cristobal (then-Chancellor and "bishop-to-be") went nuts trying to smear Fr. Paul and the former employee. One lie led to another...and as we are seeing now, ultimately has led to the "more arduous and painful closure" to not just Apuron's assignment, but to David and Adrian's as well, as they, and "the Stinking Monk," Pius, had been the hopeful architects of Fr. Paul's destruction.

After exposing this evil plot against Fr. Paul, I slammed the gate shut on Apuron's sordid fingers when I produced the parole record of the former convict, showing, that as a condition of his parole, he had been assigned to work as a maintenance man at Santa Barbara parish, from 2000 to 2003, with the full knowledge and consent of Anthony S. Apuron, and a number of years before Fr. Paul even became the parish's pastor.

This caused Apuron, David, and Adrian to go even more nuts and they exploded in a stream of lies, including the made-up story Apuron told to the clergy at a 2013 clergy retreat in Tagaytay, Philippines (audio) heavily insinuating that Fr. Paul had built a stairway to his second floor room to facilitate drunken late-night, homosexual trysts with the former employee. The sickness was absurd. And little did we know then that we were just at the beginning of the path into hell Apuron, David and Adrian were willing to take us.

Now, in order to understand what happened and why it happened, it is important to understand that the Neocats (i.e. Gennarini, et al.)  had a timeline. Apuron was "short." Submission of his resignation at age 75 as Archbishop of Agana to the Holy Father would be mandatory in a few years. A complete take over of the diocese and the assurance of a Neo-successor (Adrian or David the Tall) was critical to the Neocat agenda.

The AGENDA was not just the taking of property and the robbing of Guam Catholics, the agenda was the wholesale manufacture of counterfeit "currency," currency critical to the Neocat take over of the world's bishops, especially in Rome.

As noted in other posts, the "currency" of advancement in the Catholic hierarchy is vocations. The more vocations a diocese has, the healthier it looks, and the credit accrues to the bishop of the diocese, broadening his chances for advancement and power (and in Apuron's case, the "my precious" red hat).

Kiko and Gennarini understood this. They also understood that many of the world's bishops had grown lazy about vocations, and fallen simply to blaming "the world" and its so-called distractions for the lack of vocations.

Kiko and Gennarini needed priests, and they needed to manufacture them fast. So their seminary program went on the fast track. However, most of the world's bishops still required even RMS seminarians to have the normally prescribed priestly education...except for one: the Archbishop of Agana, Guam: Anthony S. Apuron.

Not only would no college degree be required at the Guam RMS, there was no real academic requirement for anything. Plus, Apuron would ordain anybody he was told to ordain, even men he knew were NOT qualified for the priesthood, or to even be in a seminary for that matter.

ORCHESTRATED? - PART 2

Continued from Part 1

I want to go back and fill in the Msgr. James Benavente incident a bit,  because in hindsight, it really was the catalyst that created the avalanche against (then-Archbishop) Apuron.

Up till the Msgr. James thing, not even the horrible treatment of Fr. Paul (Gofigan) appeared to shake the laity into doing anything other than expressing their outrage anonymously on this blog.

I knew that to move forward on any real change, Rome would need to see people in the streets.

I refused to call for such action because 1) it had to be truly grass roots, i.e. it had to come from the people; and 2) I did not have confidence that public action could be sustained beyond a few weeks and I knew this might have to go on for years.

However, once again, I was saved by the enemy.

First there was The Diana (the neocat blog), whose idiocy kept things alive, and then there was the absolute "fools on the Hill." Before I explain what they did, let me name them: Apuron, David, Adrian, and Pius (then later "Eddy" (Edivaldo) and "the trained lawyer"). *

* Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron, Msgr. David C. Quitugua, Fr. Adrian Cristobal, Fr. Pius Sammut, Fr. Edivaldo Olivera, Attorney Jacqueline Terlaje.

It had been quite obvious to many for a very long while that Apuron was brainless - a mere shell of a man, truly an "emperor with no clothes." In 2009-2010, when I was able to get up close and personal with him and the inner workings of the chancery, I was horrified at what I saw.

I got to get up close and personal not because of any favor Apuron and his people were doing for me, but because of what I was doing for them. I was the attack dog they were sending out to do battle in the public square with then-Senator BJ Cruz, first, over his same-sex bill, and then the statute of limitations bills re clergy sex abuse.

In meetings at the chancery, Apuron might as well have had a stick holding him up. He seemed permanently out to lunch - in a faustian daze as to what was happening and simply waiting for somebody to tell him what to do.

The breaking point for me came when I exploded at a meeting after an absolutely stupid "apuronic" move.

It was after a meeting with some members of the legislature at the Guam Hilton. In fact, it was I who had recommended the meeting.

At the time I had thought that instead of this soundbyte war in the press over the same-sex union legislation, that it would behoove the clergy to have a sit down with BJ and the boys and talk like grown ups.

My concern was not for Apuron but for the Catholic Faith. The press was ripping the Church apart for being anti-gay and the response from Apuron thus far had only exacerbated things. I say "response from Apuron," because those "responses" were sent out in his name, but there was actually no response from Apuron.

Apuron was not capable of a response - or even a homily for that matter.

As most know, Apuron's homilies are usually canned. A couple of times, when I could tell he was just reading something, I googled a particular phrase and the homily would come up on the internet. Most people already know this. Listening to an Apuron homily is like listening to a machine. Of course at the time I did not know why he was so hollow.

But back to the story.

All of Apuron's speeches, statements, etc. engaging the same-sex legislation were ghost written by Fr. Francis Walsh over at RMS. * And for this event at the Hilton he had written one that was to become famous.

Apuron probably never read it. But I did. Walsh had let me review it. I had thought he was going to submit it as an opinion piece with his own name. I could see that it was incendiary, but that was his business.

* RMS is Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Yona, Guam - the sham Neocatechumenal Way seminary Apuron set up in the late 1990's early 2000's to be his backers in a war he knew was sure to come given Apuron's history.

Unfortunately he (Walsh) made it our business. His "paper" was printed on Apuron's letterhead, and was passed out to the legislators at the meeting at the Hilton. And upon reading it, the meeting immediately imploded.

Apuron was caught on camera running down the hall away from reporters.

Until recently the mere googling of the word "Apuron" would quickly lead you to that infamous letter, but of course recent events have obscured it. Wikipedia still references it:

Apuron drew criticism for a letter distributed by his archdiocese in October 2009 demonizing gay members of the community while simultaneously praising Islamists.[1][2] It said in part:
Islamic fundamentalists clearly understand the damage that homosexual behavior inflicts on a culture. That is why they repress such behavior by death. Their culture is anything but one of self-absorption. It may be brutal at times, but any culture that is able to produce wave after wave of suicide bombers (women as well as men) is a culture that at least knows how to value self-sacrifice.[3][4][5]
Up to this point (about October 2009), for several weeks I had been slogging through the town halls, the press, the radio, TV, speaking in schools, etc., at great cost to myself and my family, not in defense of Apuron, but trying to distinguish between what Apuron was "saying" and what the Church actually taught about same-sex stuff - something Apuron apparently didn't even appear to know.

I was also having to war against the image of the Church presented by Deacon Frank Tenorio. Tenorio would stand up at town hall meetings for the proposed same-sex union legislation and start screaming and preaching at the presenters.

In addition, I was incensed by BJ's trying to pull a fast one by attempting to substitute the original bill with another bill which would have kept his substitute bill from receiving a public hearing, permitting him to sneak an important piece of legislation re same-sex unions past the public.

After several horrible weeks of being maligned in public as a "homophobe" (which is the label attached to anyone who even demands transparency in the matter of same-sex legislation), I eventually prevailed.

BJ's substitute bill was NOT germane to the original and had to have its own hearing, a hearing which eventually sunk the bill, not because of any opposition by the Catholic Church or even me, but because it prompted a letter from the Retirement Board to the Legislature, a letter sent six months before it finally became known.

For months I had been urging the media to ask about the effect of the same-sex legislation on the Retirement Fund. I knew that most people did not really care about the moral dimension of the bill, but they would certainly care about its financial impact, especially if it impacted their retirement. I was right.

I still remember the moment when then-K57 talk show host Ray Gibson got the Fund's executor, Mr. Joe T. San Agustin on the radio and he said that he had sent a letter six months previously to the legislature saying that BJ's legislation could potentially break the retirement fund. The problem was that should the bill pass into law, it would create a whole new class of GovGuam dependents for which the retirement fund had "no actuarial tables" (Joe's words).

Sorry Mr. Joe T if I'm not paraphrasing this correctly, but that was the upshot of it. BJ got on the air with Joe T and an argument ensued. Joe T did not back down and the next day BJ withdrew his bill saying he didn't have enough votes.
Apologies for that long diversion, but it's important for the reader to know.

I want readers to know how much Apuron's lack of brains cost me and how far I was willing to go to protect him. At the time, only six states had passed similar legislation. Had Guam passed it, being mostly a Catholic population, Apuron would have stood out to Rome like a diseased wart on a sore thumb.

Little did I know that I should have just let it happen. But I really wasn't trying to save Apuron.

Apuron was presenting (Neocat) Fr. Walsh's letters as if they were his own, and Walsh's letters were long on his own views and short on actual Catholic teaching, endangering the Church in the public view and pushing people, who might have otherwise not cared about the issue, to support the legislation just to oppose what looked like a very hostile Church - when really it was only a Neocat agenda.

At these meetings I kept saying over and over and over: "JUST PRESENT WHAT THE CHURCH ACTUALLY SAYS!"

I couldn't believe I was having to tell an Archbishop and a room full of priests and theology professors to say this, but I was. And still, time after time after time, they IGNORED Church teaching and presented their own.

So here's my purpose for telling you all this.

I saw up close and personal, back in 2010, that Apuron was a brainless puppet, surrounded by an ever growing and more aggressive group of Neocat presbyters, namely led by a certain Fr. Pius Sammut (aka The Stinking Monk).

Having watched this infiltration of Neocats into the administration of our archdiocese since as early as 2004, I clearly saw the danger by 2010 and knew it was only a matter of time before something really bad was going to happen.

The last straw for me was during SNAP's * visit to Guam in 2010.

*Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests

Still seen as a willing attack dog, I was called into a meeting at the chancery and was asked if I would go to the media and read a statement designed to get rid of SNAP. I read the statement, then looked at the group assembled in the conference room and asked:

"Why are we doing this? Let's call their bluff. What do we have to hide?"

By "calling their bluff" I meant let's invite them to the chancery. Let them look at the records. We had nothing to hide, right?

WRONG.

The tone of the meeting immediately changed and questions started to be asked: "What about....?" And what about...?", etc. I left the meeting and left any involvement with the chancery. I was not about to lie for this archbishop.

Still I kept it to myself until July 16, 2013 when the Fr. Paul thing exploded into view.

I wasn't angry that Fr. Paul was removed as pastor from Santa Barbara. I had no connection with Fr. Paul or Santa Barbara. I was angry because of what I had seen coming for ten years, and had even warned about: the Neocats (i.e. Gennarini et al.) had finally assembled what they thought was enough force for a complete take over of the diocese, and the first order of business was to get rid of Fr. Paul and then Msgr. James - the two most likely to succeed Apuron.

ORCHESTRATED? PART 1

I heard again today that some think the coming forward of the victims was "orchestrated." Of course it was orchestrated.

I had to be terribly careful with said victims. I knew what (Archbishop) Apuron would do to them. I knew he'd threaten them just like he did when he molested and raped their tender souls and bodies. We knew he'd say "no one will believe you." And in fact, that is exactly what he said in a different way 40 years later, except this time he accused them of spreading "malicious lies and calumnies" and threatened to sue them into silence.

I knew he would do this. So I had to work long and hard. I had to find money. I had to find an attorney who would protect them. I had to gain their trust. l had to organize, organize, organize. Even now, I have to see to their care and protection SINCE THE CHURCH STILL WON'T.

These were horribly damaged boys who had carried their long nightmare into a tormented adulthood, a suffering that was deeply visible on the faces and in the voices of those who stood before us, including the mother of a now dead boy. A boy whose life might have been very different but for what Apuron did to him when he was nine years old. A boy who might be alive today, and a mother who instead of caving into tears at the mere thought of what she unknowingly permitted, might break into a great smile at the thought of a very much alive son who blessed her with grandchildren.

You don't just throw people who have suffered so long and so hard out there and say go for it. Months of conversations and care had to happen first. And right up to the last minute, it was still up to them if they wanted to go public or not. I was quite willing to assist them. For all they wanted to do at the time was to simply deliver their statements to Apuron and to the appropriate Roman authorities. In fact, that was the plan.

But then something changed. Something happened.

Someone in the chancery released a statement on May 13, 2016 listing two pages of accusations against the laity who had been speaking up against Apuron's offenses. The statement said that in response to our speaking up, the Archbishop would be seeking legal action against us. Of specific interest to the victims was this:
These ads were paid for by the Concerned Catholics of Guam (CCOG) according to media statements by Gregory Perez and, as admitted by Tim Rohr, with the intent to target specifically the Archbishop. This demonstrates that they have no proof to substantiate any allegations and that their purpose is to confuse and mislead the people or, even, to induce some to bring false testimony.
The "ads" of course was this one:

READ THAT AGAIN: "...they have no proof to substantiate any allegations and that their purpose is to confuse and mislead the people or, even, to induce some to bring false testimony."

Well these men had "proof," and 40 years of it. And any thought of keeping this a private matter disappeared. It was time to call out this horrible man who had mutilated them, body and soul. It was time to present THE TRUTH.

Four days later, Roy Quintanilla came forward.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. I wanted to present the back story to this. Because, you see, I never intended to find these victims of Anthony S. Apuron. Instead, they found me. And little did I know, that this was what Apuron feared when he went to Rome to try to shut me up. Yes. Went to Rome.

Here's what happened.

Beginning in July of 2013, I began following and posting about Apuron's sadistic treatment of Fr. Paul Gofigan. The story quickly descending into a horror story and my posts rapidly drew a crowd.

The page-views and comments were beginning to pile up. It was a combination of both Apuron's sadistic treatment of Fr. Paul and the disturbing fact that someone was actually willing to go public about the evil acts of one, Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron.

At the time I didn't know that Apuron had been (and maybe still was/is) a serial child molester. * I had heard rumors for several years, but paid little attention to them. The Father Paul story continued to get more horrific and my page-views began to climb and climb. Apparently Apuron had never had anyone call him out in public before, and, in hindsight, I can see that he foresaw THE DANGER.

* Later, clinically speaking, it can be said that Apuron was not molesting "children." Legally "children" are persons under 18 years of age, But biologically and clinically, "children" are prepubescent persons. All of Apuron's reported victims were post-pubescent, i.e. adolescents (biological adults), which makes Apuron's alleged acts against these legal minors, homosexual acts, not pedophilia. (Note: Ephebophilia is the clinical name.)

And here it is:

Apuron knew that his perverted past had to be known. But he counted on the same "no one will believe you" he used on those boys to keep adults quiet as well. As long as his evil acts remained only whispered, he could continue to prance and flutter about, pretending to be the pope of Guam, singing "No one can touch me, No one can touch me. Nah, nah nah, nah, nah, ...!

But then came JungleWatch, and someone who wasn't afraid of his High and Mighty-ness.

Apuron hadn't counted on that.

+++++

Things got out of hand quickly. If there was a public forum for all the people he had hurt over so many years, especially a forum where people could comment without being known...then Apuron knew he was in trouble.

+++++

I didn't know it at the time, but those initial postings about what he did to Fr. Paul were the beginning of the end for 'Tony' (Apuron). In fact, it was just the beginning of his own "arduous and painful closure to his assignment" - words he had used to threaten Fr. Paul only a few months before.

Tony had to do something. So he did.

On October 10, 2013, I got a "shut up and sit down" letter from a Cardinal Edwin O'Brien.

Apuron apparently thought that I was like him, that being "important" mattered. The Order into which I had (then) only recently been initiated (Sep. 2012) is an important Order in the Church and it is considered an honor to be a member.

But I wasn't about to sacrifice the truth for a club membership. So in fact, not only did I laugh this off, I bombarded Cardinal O'Brien with two letters full of details about Apuron's horrific reign of terror. You can read more about that here.

You might say that Apuron himself opened up the door, permitting the first details about his evil reign to leak into Rome. By the way, I never heard from O'Brien again.

I had some fun with this letter, showing it to friends over beer many nights down at The Mermaid Tavern. I mean, who else gets a letter from Vatican City? But the more I thought about it, the more I began to suspect that something was up. This was way over the top. This was way out of proportion to what I was doing. I mean, really? He went to Rome to take me - a nobody with a little blog - down? What?

Hmmmmm.

The Fr. Paul affair descended into an absolute nightmare, climaxing with Tony's (Apuron's) sick, run-off-at-the-mouth, filthy speech to the clergy on retreat at Tagaytay, Philippines (October 2013) wherein he inferred that Fr. Paul had built a secret stairway to his room to facilitate drunken midnight homosexual trysts. You can listen to it here.

The story continued to get worse and worse. The diocese was coming apart and the war was going public. In fact, one could write a book about it. In fact, I DID write a book about it.

Get your free copy here. Or you can read it on the blog here.

After about January 2014 or so, things began to die down a bit, and I thought the story would go away. I remember one day thinking: "Well that's that!" Nothing more I can do. And lo and behold, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove and gave us THE DIANA! LOL.

This thing was dead in the water, but "The Diana" (A Neocat Blog), with her absolutely insane pronouncements and perspectives, breathed new life into what was pretty much dead and the war was on again.

The arguments between our two blogs exploded and so did my page-views. Things began to mount and mount, the noise grew louder and louder, and finally Rome took note, sending Archbishop Martin Krebs, the Apostolic Nuncio to this region, to Guam in mid July 2014 to see what all the ruckus was about.

This is when Fr. John Wadeson decided to come out of the closet. Poor Fr. Wadeson, he had no idea I was waiting for him.

I had gotten a recording of the clergy meeting with Archbishop Krebs. And the recording revealed some pretty horrid things. I published the recording and Wadeson decided to slap me down for my publishing of the recording. I then blasted Wadeson with a ten year old report showing that he was twice credibly accused for molesting minors in Los Angeles.

All hell broke loose and Apuron (attempting to save his own ...) threw Wadeson under the bus. You can read all the posts related to The Wandering Wadeson here.

And then came the Msgr. James thing.

On July 25, 2014, Msgr. James Benavente was called to Apuron's office where he was read a list of charges against him. No warning. No sit down let's work this out. No attempt to paternally correct. Just the accusations, the accusations, the accusations, and no opportunity for Msgr. James to even engage said accusations or even get a copy of them. The next day, the evil stepsisters, Msgr. David C. Quitugua and then-Fr. Adrian Cristobal, showed up on Msgr. James' door step and handed him his "get the hell out of here" decrees.

Apparently that was the final straw. People blew up, including someone over in San Francisco named John Toves.

I remember the morning John left a comment on my blog accusing Apuron of molesting his "relative."

I didn't publish it because he didn't leave his name. I posted back that I needed his name to publish the comment. He posted back: "My name is John Charles Ada Toves." I realized that this was too important for just a series of comments on the blog. I struck up an ongoing conversation with John Toves over the next few months - a conversation that led to John's coming to Guam to take his accusations directly to "Tony" (Archbishop Apuron) himself.

John Toves was adamant about what Apuron did to his "relative." After I learned his relative's name, I remembered that I had heard the rumors many times. John's "relative" still prefers to let the past be the past so we are not going to go there. But as some on Guam may remember, things got nuts during December of 2014, leading to the infamous "for sure for sure" interview, which you can enjoy here. For more on the fun with Apuron and Toves see Apuron vs Toves.

Apuron probably messed his pants when John Toves showed up. Nevertheless, Apuron probably figured he was still safe so long as the actual victim never came forward...and Apuron knew he wouldn't - and he was right.

But John Toves was dangerous in another way.

Toves was an altar boy...an altar boy in Agat, an altar boy who had been one of the altar boys during Apuron's days in Agat in the 1970's.

Toves knew Walter, Roy, Roland, Sonny, and many more. If news got out that John Toves was in town and making noise about Apuron molesting boys, Apuron had to know that this was not good. Old skeletons might come alive. And the old skeletons did start to shake, but they would not put flesh on for several months.

Meanwhile, though, the pressure on Apuron - brought on by John Toves - once again shook Rome awake, and they paid us a visit the following month in January 2015.

It took a few months for that to happen. Meanwhile, Diana kept things lively and drove the blog bigger and bigger, louder and louder.
