I wish to comment on Mr. David Sablan’s statement made in a recent Pacific Daily News article: “Where was Archbishop Hon and the other members of the clergy when the Legislature held public hearings and comment period on the bill? This is a case of fear mongering.” I suggest that it is not a “case of fear mongering,” but rather, as in my case, a matter of following federal guidelines. Confusion over the ban on political activity by tax-exempt organizations has existed ever since it was first imposed by Congress in 1954. CONTINUED

Seriously, Ken. You mean to tell me that all those years you priests turned your pulpits into podiums to lobby against gambling, you were actually violating IRS rules? And if a ban against churches participating in political activity kept the archdiocese from submitting testimony against Bill 326 then you are then admitting that it is now violating that ban by submitting petitions for the governor to veto the bill? People of Guam. Do you see why we need Bill 326 to become law?

PRAY HARD THAT THE GOVERNOR DOES NOT FALL TO FILONI

At first, I was one of those who was urging others to "give Hon a chance."

In fact, when a listener called into the Patti Arroyo show on June 10, the day after Hon's first address to the Catholics of Guam at St. Anthony's, and expressed disappointment that Hon had said "nothing about the victims," I immediately called in and angrily protested that we needed to give him a chance. 

However, within a few days, I was to see the error of my thinking and immediately realized that Hon had been sent here by Filoni to do one thing: save RMS, and save Apuron if he could. 

And who is Filoni? 

As Frenchie explains in his post A STUDY IN DOUBLE TALK, AND MISLEADING PEOPLE, Cardinal Fernando Filoni is "Kiko's best friend in the Vatican."

Interesting. Hon seems to have trouble stating in this interview that he had asked the pope to remove Apuron. He says that he gave a report about the "status" of the archdiocese" to "all the dicasteries" and mentions that "among other things" he asked the pope to declare the archdiocese "sede vacante." This is quite a different tone from his letter which was read to us this past Sunday where he says:

In his letter to us of only a few days ago, Hon says he URGED the Holy See to remove Apuron. Upon his arrival this morning on Guam he says he only mentioned it as "one of may things." Now why would he do that?

INNOCENT TILL PROVEN GUILTY???

In his September 19 letter to Archbishop Hon, Ric Eusebio stated:

"common law says that every person is innocent till proven guilty.' 

Of course he said a lot of other ignorant things, but even people on our side are using this "misnomer." Let's educate ourselves. 

The presumption of innocence, an ancient tenet of Criminal Law, is actually a misnomer. According to the U.S. Supreme Court, the presumption of the innocence of a criminal defendant is best described as an assumption of innocence that is indulged in the absence of contrary evidence (Taylor v. Kentucky, 436 U.S. 478, 98 S. Ct. 1930, 56 L. Ed. 2d 468 [1978]). It is not considered evidence of the defendant's innocence, and it does not require that a mandatory inference favorable to the defendant be drawn from any facts in evidence.

Also, in the case of Apuron, should he be sued locally, this would be a civil action not a criminal action. The statute of limitations can only be lifted retroactively on civil claims not criminal charges. Thus even the word "guilty" does not apply. Apuron could be found "liable," not "guilty."

As for Church Law, there is no statute of limitations, so they can do whatever they want. And if history is any teacher, Apuron, even if he is found "guilty" of these monstrosities, will be given a cushy job as a rector of some Roman church, or more likely, he'll be Archbishop in Residence at Kiko's Domus Galilaea with his beloved Luis.

SENATORS RESPOND TO MY LETTER APOLOGIZING FOR FR. JEFF

On Monday, September 19, I sent this letter to every senator in the Guam Legislature, thanking them for their courageous and unanimous vote in support of Bill 326-33 and apologizing for Fr. Jeff's "script" to the clergy which clearly stated that he believed that the senators did not know what they were doing when they voted for the bill. The following senators have directly responded thus far.

Rest assure that as the author and main sponsor of the legislation, I knew exactly what I was introducing. Bill 326-33 gives the victims of child sexual abuse a real opportunity for closure and to seek justice for what they had to endure.

SO, WE FINALLY GET THE TRUTH

It's a pretty clever move. Too bad we had to force it. But rather than address the bill as expected, Jeff attacks the Neocatechumenal Way and exposes what we have known all along, that Kiko and Filoni have been pulling all the strings. However, at the same time, Jeff wants us to believe that Hon is doing all he can to bring unity to this diocese. 

That's NOT EVEN POSSIBLE! 

Hon spent his first 3 months here carrying out - or trying to carry out - Filoni's agenda. It's only after we backed him into a corner that now he's saying "look, I'm on you side." And second, Hon, thanks to Jeff, just split this diocese over the weekend more than Apuron ever did. What a shame that we have to shame our clerics into telling the truth. Keep the pressure on. Who know's what else they may finally tell the truth about!

And besides. It was Hon's signature at the bottom of that KEEP OUT note at RMS!

FROM A READER: WHERE IS OUR FAITH?

What is so sad is the Church leadership's Godless attachment to money, money, money. As Webster points out, our local Church leadership is totally bankrupt. They have reached absolute moral poverty.

In all their exhortations and fear mongering, have you ever heard them say "Let us pray and put this is the hands of God"? No call for prayers or quiet reflection. Just sign the petition or hand the death certificate to FD, for they will surely close.

Sounds like the same logic employed by abortion clinics. A mother has a child in her womb, and tests show that the baby will have downs syndrome. So the doctor advises the mother that to bring the baby into this world will mean great pain and suffering. It will be more compassionate for the poor child, and easier for the mother and family to do the only sensible thing...abort the baby.

If this bill is signed into law, there won't be any limitation to the damages that can be inflicted on Guam and its people. Make no mistake, the scope of this bill is not restricted to the Catholic Church! The same bill applies to all institutions/ nurseries/ kindergardens/ schools/ corporations/ etc. 

Just imagine the sheer number of lawsuits that will engulf as soon as greedy criminal elements realize that claiming childhood abuse from as far as 30-40-50 or even 60 years ago against any institution/ nursery/ kindergarden/ school/ corporation/ etc. can pay off millions of dollars right into their pockets... Wow! That will be the day when the society as an entity of people sharing a common culture will collapse. Also, that will be the day you can say goodbye to common sense in politics forever!

Gov. Eddie Calvo should sign Bill 326, the measure, which passed the Guam Legislature unanimously that would lift the statute of limitations on civil lawsuits involving child sex abuse. Archbishop Savio Hon Tai Fai, the apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Agana, has urged the governor to veto the bill because he fears “the archdiocese will be will be exposed to unlimited financial liability.” That liability “will very likely” bankrupt the archdiocese, he wrote in his letter that was read to Guam congregations attending Sunday Mass this past weekend. Money/Assets/Wealth has hijacked the Catholic Church, her priests, schools, and ministries.

Holiness and Justice are irrelevant.

Children//Child Sex Abuse Victims are expendable.

By recklessly, irresponsibly, and perversely advocating the doom and gloom message of bankruptcy to scare the Catholic faithful into asking the governor to veto the bill, Archbishop Hon and Fr. Jeff have shown the Church to be morally bankrupt.

They lack the Faith, Trust, and Hope in God to guide them to do the right thing during these dark times, a darkness that has been self-inflicted.

Our Church leaders and priests have no one to blame but themselves for forcing the laity, devoted and faithful Catholics, to advocate the lifting of the Statute of Limitations against Child Sex Abuse. They have had almost 50 years to clean up their own act, and despite the clamor and cries of the laity and victims, they chose to arrogantly ignore them, until our courageous Senators passed Bill 326-33.

So, in an insidious and treacherous attempt to prevent the bill from becoming into law, they have filed for Bankruptcy in the Court of God.

The Church in Guam has SOLD her SOUL to save her earthly MONEY/ASSETS/WEALTH.

My son is a student at Father Duenas. Today, the boys were informed about the petition that is circulating and that healing for victims is the most important thing. However, according to my son, per his teachers, if we do not sign the petition and we are in favor of this bill, then we are going against the church. The future of upcoming FD students is at risk. Father Duenas will be sold and it will no longer exist.

This is very upsetting.

Archdiocese does not want us to know the extent of its wealth to include all of the stocks and bonds it owns.

I am working on a full portfolio of all the properties owned or controlled by the Archdiocese as well as Apuron personally. What I won't be able to find so easily is how much is owned in financial instruments like stocks and bonds. We know of some. 

In 2000, Apuron wrote the chairman of Gannett Corp., owner of the PDN:

IRONY OR HYPOCRISY?

The homily at yesterday's Mass centered around this language from the Sunday Missal:"'You cannot serve both God and mammon': the meaning is obvious. If you sever the management of your possession from your religious faith, you will soon be going by a double standard..."

From the pulpit: "No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." Matthew 6:24

And then from the Apostolic Administrator via the mouths of priests:"...I understand that a Bill that has serious implications for the Archdiocese has now passed the state legislature, Substitute Bill 326-33...."  AA Hon has so little regard for our Archdiocese, our island and us that he said  326 has "...now passed the state legislature,..."  which state, Hon, New Jersey?!!
