VIDEO: Frustrated Catholics Want Answers on 200% Increase in "Annual Appeal" Collections the Chancery Is Now "Demanding"

By the way, seriously, you people on the Hill, your webpage requesting money for the 2013 Annual appeal is still showing the collection up to April 2013. That's going on a full year. Either take down you website or keep it current. It shows gross negligence, carelessness, and an attitude of "the people be damned." But then at this point, so does everything else. Geez.

  1. I thought part of this money goes to charitable organizations such as kamalen karidat! Catholic Social Services, equestrian order for the needs in The Holy land, etc. I am such an idiot and duped again.

    1. Kamalen Karidat is fiscally independent of the Archdiocese. I am not aware of any money flowing from the Chancery to Kamalen. On the contrary, Deacon Tenorio, who runs Kamalen, has been known to be very generous with the Archbishop. Correct me if I'm wrong, bu I remember that $100,000 was given by Kamalen to fund the purchase of the Accion Hotel (now the seminary).

Deacon Tenorio, by the way is very ANGRY at Tim Rohr for speaking out, and he has said so publicly. Continue giving to Kamalen because they are doing great work, but just know that. Si Yu'os Ma'ase.

    2. Kamalen Karidat is owned by the archdiocese so the archbishop owns the funds, and so Deacon Tenorio can be extremely generous of money he does not own. I mean, how easy is that! In other words, it wasn't Deacon Tenorio being generous to the seminary but just one more example of how the archbishop is using archdiocesean funds from other non Neo or non seminary sources to pay for the expenses of the seminary.

    3. If your information is correct, Jerry S, Agat Guam, then this puts Kamalen in a different light; does your info mean that Kamalen is not independent after all? This bit of info just proves and emphasizes the fact that FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY should be required of our Diocese!! No excuses, no ifs, ands or buts about this requirement. No accountability -- no donations! NO transparency -- no donations! Simple as that. If there are no irregularities in their accountings and allocations (no "creative accounting" in other words) then what could they loose, butinstead stand to gain for being honest! What a novel idea: that the Catholic Diocese' leader and gate keepers be honest in its financial accountability of contributions?

  2. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever called the Chancery office to comment on anything posted? How come they never dispute anything or send an official statement out regarding these matters that are surfacing? It goes to show the confidence they have in themselves.

    1. I'm sure they consider responding to anything on this blog beneath them. But then they would not respond to any media inquiries either other than to say the issues raised are "internal matters". I'm sure they think, like most politicians and (sadly) like most serious matters on this island, that we'll forget and just move on. This is why it is important to make our message know monetarily. It's the only thing they will listen or respond to. The fact is, of course, they could make this blog go away simply by refuting any of the facts we have posted whether it be about the NCW, RMS, Fr. Paul or the AAA.

  3. Comments on these pages are checked by asking the clergy of the archdiocese and religious if they are true. Very much so.

  4. If you reduce the annual appeal the archbishop will listen. Remember the archbishop is a lover of money not people. The power power is really in the money. If the people stop giving to the appeal he will begin to listen. But if you keep giving him money he will continue. The power is in your hands not his. Problem is the people have given him a power he does not deserve. When there is abuse of any kind, remove yourself first, stop allowing it. An abused wife today does not stay with her husband. Think about it.

  5. The thing that pisses me off is that the chancery is holding the people of Guam hostage - if we decide not to pay to the AAA, they'll take it from our parish. So if we don't pay, our parish suffers.....

    1. EDITED:
Yes the parish suffers. No money for the aircon, flowers, candles, etc. you may have to volunteer to make unleavened bread (the Neos can give you lessons on this)' donate Morgan David wine, maybe even grape juice. It's funny how one man who is so stubborn can let his churches suffer for the sake of making life a bit more comfortable for others.

If the Archbishop is truly under the control of the bigwigs in New Jersey, then he must obey otherwise...

  6. I've served on our parish finance council for many many years and it is sad to see the problems created by the Archbishop and his advisers. We are a medium size parish, tithing is good- enough to pay the bills. people support and have a general love and commitment to the church but little do many know the struggles and issues that lay underneath. Our parish (like every other) pays a "parish assessment" to the archdiocese (how they come up with the figure amazes me) We pay near $2,000 a month. So Fr. struggles to pay the utilities, operations, support programs etc. I've seen the stress on the man and I feel for him. In 2002 when our parish suffered devastating damages by Supertyphoon Pongsona the archdiocese continued to require a parish assessment even though it was trying to rebuild. The chancery (after making the case and pleas of the pastor) reduced the amount (a few hundred dollars)- Which lasted for 8 years (We are not even near paying down our loan) The parish is paying down the loans, keeping up with its operations and sadly a few months ago was given a "back billing" for the arrears to the tune of 70+K talk about greedy. So now we are paying- current, operations, programs and ARREARS! We are basically broke! No wonder why the various churches are in disrepair and hurting- the CCD programs have no books, the parish organizations barely manage, and donations are down cause there is no outreach, no support. My fear is that if people see the siphoning of the cash they will stop giving, and/or leave the faith cause of the apparent greed by the Chancery/Archbishop. I have learned that the archdiocese/archbishop likes "free" (professional services and gifts) and will take advantage of you as long as they can. They only know you when you need something. No wonder why it seems like the parishes are forever fundraising and now we all know why. This has to stop! Rome are your listening? The Lord hears the cry of the poor.

    1. Your parish received a $70,000 plus "back billing"?!? How many other parishes received something similar? Sounds like the Chancery is D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E!

    2. Wow shocking! The Archbishop is trying to break the Capuchins. Since those parishes seem the most generous considering their size. My insider friends agree- this Archdiocese is BROKE! They owe creditors, utility companies, insurance companies, etc.. the world will be laughing at Guam's Catholic Community once the truth comes out. Shame on him, Shame on the NCW.

    3. What is the billing for? Back 10% donation to chancery? You do all know that the chancery was renovated with your money don't you about a year or so ago?

During your so called agape' Archbishop, do you serve lobster and steak. Fine dining. Have these people donate this money to the parish that need to pay back taxes. Don't you feel any kind of guilt when you entertain the NEOS and know in your heart that the parishes are hurting!

What does it take for you to see the light? A drop in donations or a dwindling of the flock! Sooner or later you will not get a drop in the bucket. Even your 9:30 Sunday morning is not packed anymore. Do you wonder why? People can see through you and I don't think they like what they see. You are a pompous and arrogant leader who believes that we will all bow to your wishes.

When the time comes when you need help we will all be going our merry way. So I suggest that you ask your Neo doctors, lawyers, businessmen, to up their donations to meet the quota you want and leave us peasants alone who can only give what we have.

We can no longer support your mission and help relieve our pastors with the needs of the church. You are asking for an arm and a leg. You live off our money, while we,work hard to survive.

You do not seem to understand that we are all suffering economically. Some of us cut our budgets in order to allow are children to attend a catholic School. We donate our time to the church free of charge. We give wholeheartedly when our parish calls for donations for church repairs.

JUST WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM US!

For you it's a gimme gimme this and that until I can break you. You can no longer break us even if we are only a few speaking out. The silent minority is watching!

Let's just say that your best friend can be your worse enemy and you will never be supported again.

    4. I was told in a side bar that the back billing is "policy" (such B.S.) and was told by another (very close insider) it is paying for the new solar panels San Ramon Hill got and they needed a way to pay for it.

  7. I agree Kamalen Karidat is financially independent and that is why I give to that cause; however, I'd like to know whether the Deacon continues to give toward the Seminary? I'd like to think that what I and others donate or contribute financially to Kamalen is not used to support the Seminary or that will be a big factor in my decision to donate even to Kamalen in the future.

To Deacon Tenorio: Tim should not be blamed for enabling the revelations about s of financial information because you, yourself Deacon I'm sure, would certainly want to know any financial irregularities linked to an organization you are donating to, wouldn't you?

    1. Unless Deacon Tenorio gave the above mentioned $100,000 to the Archbishop to purchase the seminary from his OWN pocket, then Deacon Tenorio took money donated to Kamalin for the care of the poor and used it to support the Archbishop's quest to make this a Neo island. In fact, that $100,000, if it in fact came from Kamalin Karidat and not the Deacon's personal funds, was already owned by the Archbishop since the Archbishop owns/controls Kamalin Karidat and its assets. In effect, if the 100k came from Kamalin, then the Archbishop took money designated for the feeding of the poor to pay for his seminary with the Deacon assisting in the money laundering scheme. That's wild.

  8. I am glad that all this is coming out in the open. WHen my brother was in the seminary and other local seminarians, I was more than happy to give generously to the appeal. Now, I do not know where my contributions are going and to hear that there are now two seminary residences, HOW DO I KNOW THAT WHAT I GIVE IS GOING TO OUR LOCAL SEMINARIANS???? I was surprised to hear in the news that the Archdiocese is not obligated to reveal its financial matters, well, I beg to differ. We give to help our parishes. I have volunteered all my services to my parish and my time, efforts, and monetary donations is because I love my faith and parish. Now, I do not know how I feel about volunteering in the parish. There is a different feeling in the air and that is because we are not treated the same by the man on the hill. HAS HE LOST PERSPECTIVE OF WHAT HIS ROLE IS AS OUR CHURCH LEADER? Wake up GUAM!!

    1. Boy do I wonder the same thing Eileen. Please do not get me wrong, I want to support young men who want to become priest but I want my contributions to be used for our local seminarians that are not neo which I know is only one at the moment. Unleee im missing somthing here.

  9. Many years now I hear rumors that Kamalen has a lot of money because people really support the poor, etc. and that Kamalen sends money to the Archbishop's projects whatever they may be. And that is why the Archbishop never does anything against what Deacon wants. And Deacon can be depended on for prolife. Also at one time Deacon was in charge of the radio station. Why? Because he had the money from Kamalen. So yes Deacon should be told that the people are aware and that we dont want to hurt Kamalen's good work but the money should not go to you know where.,

  10. With this assessment of 65+% going to the seminary, is part of this money used to pay for the lodging of the lay missionaries here? Who pays for their rents, utilities, food, medical bills, and the sort? Is it the parish, a particular community, our appeal?

    1. One of the families, I think they have 4 or 5 kids, is on food stamps, or at least they are able to get it for their kids, since 2 or 3 of the kids were born here.

    2. I think the same family was staying at the archbishop's personal residence in Mangilao with utility bills paid by us.

      Delete
    3. Let's talk about this personal residence. I have heard about it - one vendor who's been in it says that its very nice.

I know that since he was ordained Bishop, he was released from his Capuchin vows so that he can own houses and the like. But why are we paying for utility bills there? We already pay the utility bills for his house on San Ramon Hill.

  11. How many lay missionaries are here? I know that they don't get paid for anything. They come on their own accord or are assigned. Some may have come with their children, ages who knows. Where is the NEO getting the money to help these people? We sure are ding dang dong paying a hell of a lot of money on this movement.

So Archbishop, I suggest you sell your home and donate the funds to the appeal seeing that you so desperately need the mullah! Bouncing around on trips isn't going to cut it anymore. We will keep tabs of your travels!

I always admired just how intelligent your are, but intelligence is nothing without common sense, which you seem to lack. Amen!

  12. The great joy of reading these comments is that it slowly brings out the truth of the archbishop and his circle of friends. There is a lot more shocking news to come, but let's allow it to evolve in a natural way. As we know Tim Rohr only posts facts never opinions. But the facts allow the comments to pur in, and the comments just confirm the truth we know. So junglewatch thank you for what your doing. Facts lead to truth,

  15. Correct. We need the data of all the travels of the archbishop. Each time he leaves Guam it needs to be known, the date, time of flight, destination, first class or business ticket. Correct again if he needs cash for his projects let him sell his own residence and stop asking the people of Guam to pay for his seminary and all it's expenses. Beyond the requirements of people to support their pastors, which we will always do as the church asks us. It does not ask us to pay for NCW or the personal bills of apurons private home. Truth is truth. If you don't agree tell us archbishop.

  16. Nearing a thousand people have read this page in one day. Other media sources are picking up the stories . The archbishop is certainly drawing attention to the Church on Guam.

  17. Anyone know what the 3pcent for other clergy support covers. The archbishop is known for his lack of concern respect for priests so how does he account for this 3pcent. May be someone is sick and he is helping a priest with medications hospital bills. When writing financial reports should be more detailed. After all he gives some kind of details to catholic extension, so why not to his appeal. To him everything is relative.

  18. May we get more facts on deacon tenorio case.

  19. If the archbishop of Guam is honest for sure the people will support. But if the archbishop is fooling us, his very actions will show us. Remember this blog is only about facts, the facts are showing the San Ramon circle of friends how they operate.

  21. Encourage people to give checks to fr. Paul Gofigan to help him with his expenses of dealing with the archbishop. Money you would have sent to the appeal send some to fr. Paul to help him. This is another very just approach to the situation.
