CLERGY WITH CREDIBLE CLAIMS AGAINST THEM - DIOCESE OF DULUTH

In early 2014, I wrote the following post, but did not publish it:

Clergy with Credible Claims against Them Concerning Sexual Abuse of a Young Person

Roman Catholic Diocese of Duluth
December 31, 2013

http://www.dioceseduluth.org/cmanager/File/Communications/Names.pdf

As part of the Diocese of Duluth’s ongoing efforts to foster safe environments for children and young people, Bishop Paul D. Sirba released on December 31, 2013 information about clergy members who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse of young persons while serving or residing in the Duluth Diocese.

Included in the release are clergy members who served as diocesan priests as well as clergy from other dioceses or religious orders who at one time worked or resided in the Duluth Diocese.

SKELETONS?

On December 3, 2013, I wrote the following post, but chose not to publish it.
In a comment to the post CHANCERY VS ROHR: TWO STORIES, Anonymous gives some rather lurid details regarding the activities of a certain Father Louis Brouillard.

The name caught my attention because the priest was recently mentioned in the U Matuna, (here and here) recognizing him on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of San Isidro Parish as its first pastor.

The U Matuna, in the past at least, has not been hesitant about publishing stories about clerical sex abuse in other places. I'll leave it at that…for now.

SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY CAME

ARCHDIOCESE STILL PAYS BROUILLARD

Posted by Tim

Just a note. We pointed this out in October 2014 (here). The fact of the matter is that Brouillard has not been receiving a retirement or a pension from the Archdiocese of Agana for all these years because he did not "retire." He was removed from ministry and kept on the payroll. Maybe it was because of what Brouillard KNEW.

Lawsuit: Archdiocese still pays Brouillard

A lawsuit alleges that the Archdiocese of Agana still sends regular retirement payments to former Guam priest Louis Brouillard, who is accused in seven of the 13 clergy sex abuse lawsuits filed so far against the archdiocese and current and former Catholic priests on Guam. (CONTINUED)

GUAM DAILY POST: TENTH VICTIM FILES

Posted by Tim
Tenth victim files sex abuse complaint

Shortly after Coadjutor Archbishop Michael Byrnes made his first public comments to local media, yet another victim of alleged child sexual abuse filed a complaint with the Superior Court of Guam.

Fifty-six-year-old Inarajan resident Anthony Vegafria filed his complaint yesterday shortly before 5 p.m. accusing Rev. Louis Brouillard of molesting him as a child when he was an altar boy at the Malojloj Parish in the early '70s.  CONTINUED

My note: This one is against Brouillard. Remember that Apuron hid and paid this person for decades when he knew what he had done.

HEY DIANA. THINGS DON'T LOOK GOOD FOR TONY. LOL.

PDN: 3 more sex abuse lawsuits filed against Apuron, Brouillard, archdiocese

In a recent post, The Diana said if Apuron is found innocent in Rome that he will return here to serve until retirement. Yes! We would like nothing more than to have Tony back so we can watch his face when he is confronted by the boys he raped and molested.

Read the PDN story here.

At least Brouillard (below) has confessed his sins and asked for forgiveness. Tony? mmmmm, not so much.

IRONY OR HYPOCRISY?

Posted by Bob

The homily at yesterday's Mass centered around this language from the Sunday Missal:"'You cannot serve both God and mammon': the meaning is obvious. If you sever the management of your possession from your religious faith, you will soon be going by a double standard..."

From the pulpit: "No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." Matthew 6:24

And then from the Apostolic Administrator via the mouths of priests:"...I understand that a Bill that has serious implications for the Archdiocese has now passed the state legislature, Substitute Bill 326-33...."  AA Hon has so little regard for our Archdiocese, our island and us that he said  326 has "...now passed the state legislature,..."  which state, Hon, New Jersey?!!

PRIEST SAYS HE WAS TOLD TO SAY PRAYERS FOR ABUSING BOYS

Posted by Chuck White

"He said he molested "a couple of boys" during that time. However, when pressed on how many boys he might have abused, Brouillard said: 'I have no idea. Maybe 20."

HAGATNA, Guam (AP) — A 95-year-old Catholic priest admitted to sexually abusing boys decades ago on Guam. He said he confessed his sins to other priests on the island at the time but none told him to specifically stop.

Instead, the Rev. Louis Brouillard said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Saturday morning that the other priests told him to "do better" along with regular penance, such as saying Hail Mary prayers.  Read more.

WHAT HON NEEDS TO DO

Posted by Tim Rohr

I was wondering how long it would take for Archbishop Hon to get around to issuing an apology for the now-confessed crimes against children by Fr. Louis Brouillard (PDN story and KUAM story). Perhaps it was Bob Klitzkie's comments on K57 yesterday morning which prompted somebody to tell him that he better do something, but regardless of how it was motivated, Hon managed to get an apology out before the end of the day.

Our side, once again, runs the risk of sounding intolerant, by saying that it's not enough, but it's a risk, in the name of justice and real reconciliation, that we will take. Before I say what Hon really needs to do in this particular matter, let me say, more generally, that Hon needs to get out beyond his current circle of clergy advisors and talk to some real professionals.

Till now, Hon's modus operandi has been to surround himself and consult with the people who have been either at the root of the problem to begin with, or who remained silent out of some misaligned view of their vow of obedience. Either way, any counsel Hon might get from clerics who are subordinate to him is risky at best and more probably tainted.

On the matter of sex abuse, if I were Hon, I would have called Vincent Pereda immediately after his testimony on Bill 326-33 this past Monday. Mr. Pereda's credentials take up most of the first page of his testimony. There is probably no one on this island more credentialed to help Hon than Pereda. In addition, Pereda was a former sex abuse review board member for the archdiocese who resigned out of a sense of integrity for himself and his profession. He wasn't going to be used.

If nothing else, immediately aligning with Pereda to address the sex abuse problem would have given Hon an instant air of seriousness. Instead, Hon has turned to Fr. Pat Castro and Deacon Len Stohr to be his point men on this matter; and while both good men, their first duty is not to their assignments, but to their vows. In doing this, Hon has shown us that he is not serious. For which victim in his right mind is going to ask for help from a representative of the same organization which produced and protected his perpetrator? And in the cases of Apuron and Brouillard...FOR DECADES!

It was quite clear from the outset that Hon did NOT want to deal with the sex abuse issue, and given our suspicions based on his 2015 visit and his now-demonstrated knowledge of Brouillard, may have been told NOT to touch the sex abuse issue by his Vatican handlers who are well known neocatechumenal hacks whose only care is to save RMS. Nothing else can explain the absolute absence of any mention of the sex abuse issue upon his arrival and no comment of substance until he was served with a suit.

Hon's only hope of salvaging his mission, which is otherwise imploding, is to ask Vince Pereda (or someone who Pereda would recommend if he does not want the job) to serve as an INDEPENDENT point of contact for victims of clergy sex abuse. As a professional, victims would have the assurance from Mr. Pereda that they would not only receive or be directed to the correct kind of professional help needed, but that their confidence would be protected until such time, if they wish, to make their accounts public.

Hon has told us that he takes this issue "seriously." Well then, here's his chance to prove it.

PRIEST ADMITS HE MOLESTED CHILDREN, SAYS "I'M DOING PENANCE"

Do you remember or have any estimation of how many boys you may have molested while on Guam?

Father Louis - No, I don't have recollection of the number. No.

When asked why he molested young boys, the priest only had this to say, "Hard to say...I guess mostly it pleased the boys. I thought they were happy."

PDN: (BROUILLARD) SAYS "IT'S POSSIBLE" HE ABUSED ALTAR BOYS

Former Guam priest says 'it’s possible' he abused altar boys

A former Guam priest who was publicly accused during a Legislature hearing this week as having molested an altar boy in the 1950s said Thursday “it’s possible” he abused altar boys on island and he’s asking for forgiveness from those he may have hurt. CONTINUED

HON HAS NO EXCUSE NOT TO KNOW ABOUT BROUILLARD

Posted by Tim

In today's excellent investigative PDN story by Haidee V Eugenio, Archdiocese of Agana Apostolic Administrator, Archbishop Savio Hon Tai Fai appears to not know much about Fr. Louis Brouillard. Brouillard was accused this past Monday by 73 year old Leo Tudela of molesting him when he was an altar boy in Mangilao in the late 1950's.

It's too bad Archbishop Hon treated the Concerned Catholics of Guam with disdain at his first meeting with them on January 8, 2015.

At that meeting, CCOG President, Greg Perez, attempted to tell Archbishop Hon about the many issues facing the Guam Church. Hon ridiculed Perez and the CCOG, accused them of "spreading propaganda and promoting division, and told them they had no authority to investigate the church or Apuron.

THE "SPOTLIGHT" IS ON GUAM--A COVER UP?

Posted by Webster.

Archbishop Hon is wrong. He better check his facts again. He should check with Archbishop Apuron, or Monsignor David, the former Vicar General, or Fr. Adrian, the former Chancellor. They know why Fr. Brouillard is being paid monthly despite being absence from Guam for over 35 years.

Fr. Brouillard is not being paid monthly by the Chancery because he had retired. No priest retires at the age of 59. Maybe 75 but not 59. Something reeks of COVER-UP here.

A SECRET AND SINISTER PLOT?

Posted by Webster.

What do these two priests have in common? Yes, there is the obvious answer(hint: young boys), but is there more? What does Monsignor David, the former Vicar General, know about Fr. Louis Brouillard and his hidden relationship with the Chancery? Why was Fr. Louis abruptly and secretly whisked away, just as the younger Fr. Luis was whisked away? Why has Archbishop Apuron kept this priest from the Agana Archdiocese hidden somewhere else? Who else were involved in this sinister plot?

More to come...
