Each Lent the Catholics of Guam are asked to contribute to a special "appeal." Traditionally, most of the funds collected during the appeal were used to help finance the formation of priests for this diocese who were normally sent to seminaries in the states.

PROVIDENTIALLY...THE REST OF THE STORY

In a recent comment, a coward again tried to smear Mr. Lastimoza in order to defend Archbishop Apuron's mistreatment of Fr. Paul. Apparently only in the Neocatechumenal Way is one never forgiven (unless of course you join them). 

I wasn't going to address it and I thought long and hard before bringing this to a post. But an email I received yesterday providentially changed my mind. It's a part of the story that hasn't been told yet, at least not here. The sender gave me permission to share it:

Many are of the opinion that popes, bishops, and priests are chosen by God and are therefore beyond question if not unassailable.

We'll get to the actual comment in a minute. Obviously we are speaking to the situation with our own bishop and the debate as to whether he has to be obeyed unquestioningly. 

Common sense should tell us that no priest or bishop or pope can suddenly decide that lying, cheating, and stealing is okay and oblige us to subscribe to his new teaching. 

Yet that is what some want us to do with Archbishop Apuron. We are told that we have to shut up and obey even though the Archbishop himself has apparently subscribed to a new moral order of lying, cheating, stealing, and character assassination. (Proven and documented beyond question on this blog.)*

FANOHGE KATOLIKO!

Thank you Tim, and CCOG for another edifying presentation this evening! I attended the meeting in Yona and this evening's in my village and learned something new at each one. We Catholics can no longer be wimps, indifferent or lukewarm. We can no longer afford to be monkeys who see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Evil is among us and we must gird ourselves by invoking the Holy Spirit and marching off to battle. 

Please, everyone, if you are still sitting on the fence about this epic battle for our souls and the souls of our loved ones and neighbors, you owe it to your own soul to come and listen to the TRUTH! If you were baptized Catholic and most especially, confirmed in the faith, you affirmed certain beliefs of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Affirmation also means to defend those beliefs when challenged by the evil one and his hosts.

RECENTLY PAID

Note: Today, February 27, at 10:47am, I received a message from someone who I trust advising that the outstanding balance for the former FD student was "recently paid." (See posts here and here.)

I once again want to reiterate that the balance did not go unpaid due to any negligence on the part of school. In fact, the fact that it was eventually paid, albeit "recently", shows the diligence of the school and it's commitment to justice for all who attend FD. 

The whole episode simply shows the privileged status the neocatechumenal way enjoys in this diocese at our expense. And it will continue to enjoy that status so long as the majority of the people are willing to let it. 

What can you do?

IS THE NEO CATHOLIC?

Relative to a several spats on this blog about the above question, here's the simple answer:

Yes, insofar as it adheres to its 2008 Statute.

No, insofar as it departs from its 2008 Statute.

We have covered this many times, but let's do it again. 

First, there are two Statutes. The 2002 "ad experimentum" Statute and the 2008 Statute which received Final Approval. 

The 2002 Statute permitted neo-communicants to receive and consume the sacred host while sitting. The 2008 Statute DOES NOT.

At Loyola Marymount University back in the late 70's, I applied for and received a scholarship to study music. 

The school itself did not pay for my education, it only administered the scholarship. The actual funding came from Lawrence Welk, a Catholic, a friend of the University, and a then-famous Hollywood music personality.

Upon receiving the scholarship, Mr. Welk wrote me a congratulatory note and invited me to his home in nearby Pacific Palisades. 

I grew up watching the Lawrence Welk show every Saturday night on a black and white TV with my family. It's kind of fun to remember that.

It's time to talk frankly about the use of the JP2 seminarians to solicit support for the Appeal.

There is no doubt that each of these men are sincere in their desire to be ordained diocesan priests for the Archdiocese of Agana.

However, their sincerity does not turn the institution that purports to train them for the priesthood into a credible institution, nor does the sincerity of those who support their vocations.

None of us would send our son or daughter to an institution of higher learning without having some evidence that the institution is in fact what it purports itself to be. 

This is all we are asking.

IS THIS THE REAL REASON?

Father Pius has been heard to say (and supported by Archbishop Apuron) that the reason they don't want to send our men to St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, CA is because "it's full of gays". Hmmm. Maybe the real reason is because the archbishop has some unpaid bills waiting for him there.

   Tim. Some associated with St. Patrick's Seminary, Menlo Park, CA often joke that Guam left unpaid bills in the seminary because Archbishop Apuron and Fr. Adrian did not wish to give money to this seminary. So you're right. Why give to an appeal where our local priests are not trained. Honestly, there are serious questions circulating regarding Archbishop Apuron, money and certain priests. Hope in time  the clouds will lift.

HOW TO GO TO FD FOR FREE

Once someone takes over the pulpit during a Mass and subjects us to their personal story, that story becomes public property and we get to use it however we want. And at least for one neo-seminarian who did this, there appears to be much more to his story than just getting drunk. For now I will leave out his name.

And what ministries? I don't see any worthwhile programs coming out of the Chancery. I think the best thing they have done, if they did indeed do it, is bring Steve Ray out to Guam. We need more of that.

@8:00AM. It's interesting you mention Steve Ray since I was the one who advised the archbishop to bring him out. But of more interest is what happened to Steve Ray that no one but I and Steve Ray know about (though Fr. Mike may know since he helped coordinate his visit). Maybe it's time to share it.

I'm so glad you asked. I got paid a whopping $1,673.60 last year from the Cathedral Basilica and no plots.

WHY COLD AND HUNGRY CHILDREN IN THE DAKOTAS ARE EATING BETTER

Earlier I was mocked for not really accomplishing anything, for just "having views", etc. 

I replied that I had accomplished quite a lot and then listed those accomplishments, but forgot to include my biggest accomplishment - exposing the annual lie that this archdiocese told to the Catholic Extension Society (CES) so it could soak it for a quarter of a million dollars every year and steal money away from truly needy dioceses. 

My exposition of this lie has caused the CES to dry up the funds to our money hungry chancery, and by next year, the full quarter of a million it got every year will be GONE. ZIP. ZERO. NADA.

Tim, thank you for your very good presentation at the Yona meeting. Many of us are just beginning to learn more about what is going on.

You are so right that in order to fight a moral battle we must truly do soul cleansing in order for God to hear and help us in our spiritual quest.

The other thing that I thought might help, when any of us are present when a Neo priest is celebrating Mass and asked someone to make a public confession, is for us to stand up and sing together "Atan Jesukristo" or a hymn that everyone knows, then make the sign of the cross, saying: "Abe Maria purisema" then leave quietly. 

We will keep praying and doing penance for our church.

My response to an ongoing criticism of my call to withhold all Appeal funds until we have some proof of 1) the academic credibility of the institution we are being asked to support, and 2) that the funds are going where we think they're going. NOTICE TO SEMINARIANS AT JP2

You are being used. I'm sure you know that. I also know that you are trying to make the best of a bad situation. However, we cannot allow "them" to use you to use us. 

If you want the Catholics of Guam to support your current efforts to attain to the priesthood via the Blessed Diego Institute (BDI) - which is the only path Archbishop Apuron is permitting -  then we must require you to present to us the following:

1. Current and official documentation of the BDI's accredited affiliation with the Lateran.
2. The academic handbook for BDI or at least a certified copy of its curriculum and academic requirements.
3. The list of stable or permanent professors and their academic credentials as well village of residence.  
4. A documented commitment of what percentage of Appeal funds will actually go to the seminarians at JPII.
5. A documented commitment from Archbishop Apuron to truthfully disclose all the financials related to the Annual Appeal.

If you cannot present this to us then we cannot support the Appeal and until we see these documents I am asking everyone to withhold any contributions to the Appeal. Meanwhile, I would encourage those who care about supporting your vocations to organize and contribute to a trust in your behalf with the funds distributed once the above documentation is presented or you are permitted to attend a seminary with actual credentials. 

If you are unable to obtain these documents then you are being lied to and you are being used to lie to us. Not a good way to begin a path to the priesthood.

Since last July, Archbishop Apuron has been continually trashing Msgr. James Benavente for the Cathedral's debt. And he has continued to publicly trash his priest-son despite NEVER giving Msgr. James a hearing. 

In addition, the financial professionals who know the real story have continually challenged Archbishop Apuron's account with the facts. Apuron, as usual, does not respond. He wants and needs his lies to continue.

Autonomous Catholic charitable organizations are certainly nothing new. 

What IS new is the idea of using such an organizational structure to directly administer funds at both the parish and diocesan level.

The idea of doing this was mostly born of the clergy sex abuse scandal which exploded into view in the last decade.

The cost of the scandal has escalated into the billions with lay Catholics footing the bill and making them victims twice over: once for the actual sexual abuse and once again for having to pay for it.

BAD TIMING...AND WRONG THEOLOGY

So inside the church the prophet Joel tells us:

"Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning...."

And outside the church the anti-prophet Kiko tells us:

This is quite "protestant" by the way. Most "evangelical" churches eschew the idea of Lent, Holy Week, and even any special recognition of Good Friday. To them, since Jesus is what this sign says, there is never a need to re-visit Calvary or to subject oneself to a penitential season. 

This is also why. while they may wear a cross, their cross will never have the body of Christ on it (which is why it is called a "crucifix" not just a "cross"). This is also why they eschew the idea of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. To the evangelicals and most protestants, Christ's death on the cross happened 2000 years ago and there is no need (for them) to memorialize it or re-present it. It's just a banquet, maybe even a happy meal. 

Same teaching as Kiko's...and sadly, some non-kiko's too.

There was a fund raiser for the CB at Outrigger tonight because they're 'on the verge of shutting down the Cathedral' did you hear anything like that? 

I wanted to give more info from that whole 'fundraiser' discussion at the Outrigger by someone on the 'new and improved' finance committee.  

This guy said with great smugness that 'they' reviewed the finances and there was questionable spending at every turn by Msgr Benavente. When I challenged him about the archbishop's spending, I was advised that the Archbishop was "above question."

What seminary did you create? As I recall you have nothing to do with the Saint John Paul II Seminary. The seminarians there are happy and glad they have no interest in you or the jungle watch. They are glad that the seminary was created by the Archbishop with the help of Father Romeo who is the rector and many other people. So do not take credit for something that was not your plan. Your plan was to send the JP2 Seminarians to Fiji but, these seminarians are happy where they are at. Remember you did not create nor support the JP2 seminary. You called it a boarding house. These men studying to become priests one day are given the chance to be formed by other diocesan priests like Father Kidd and Father Villa. I'm glad the JP2 seminarians are happy. It's just like college for them. They attend classes at the institute and they return to the JP2 Seminary for prayers and more. I hope that one day the Archbishop can consider opening the institute for the laity to attend classes to further their education and knowledge. But I know some will oppose from doing so because their neo. If your a Neo then good for you. If your a regular mass attendee then good for you, if your a traditionalist meaning Latin mass attendee then good for you. You do your thing, I will do mine. Who am I to say that we are not Catholic? Why don't we all have peace and unity. Let the bishop do his own thing and let Tim do his. Let the bishop focus on how to spread and preach the gospel and on the internal process of his diocese. Let us all just pray and focus on our life. Tim, I know spreading the news across the blog is a big deal for you but since you said this takes time and money and I know you love to do this. Take a break. Enjoy life. Spend time with the family. Your family deserves your time and energy. Maybe the family should visit the Fatima while she's still here. It is obvious to all that Archbishop Apuron believes that Guam Catholics will continue to be obedient boys and girls and just turn their money over to him without any care for financial transparency or accountability to the faithful. 

We probably wouldn't care that much if he hadn't shown us just how vicious he can be about financial accountability as demonstrated by his continued public stripping and raking of Msgr. James. 

We probably wouldn't care that much if he hadn't simply outright lied to us for 15 years about who RMS was really for.

We probably wouldn't care that much if hadn't hid the 40 plus million dollar gift he gave to his Kiko-cronies at our expense.

PLEASE CONFIRM OR CORRECT

Asan parish priest opted out of Our Lady of Fatima visit. Chalan Pago Church also pushed back on the visit, but the pastor was overruled by the Christian Mothers.

NO RESPONSE

If the RMS Corporation REALLY is "wholly-subject" to the Archbishop as he claims, then why the need to restrict the use of the property solely to RMS? 

Why not just leave it as part of the patrimony of the Archdiocese of Agana? 

By restricting the property to RMS (as he did on 11/22/11), Archbishop Apuron has worsened the "patrimonial condition" of the Archdiocese of Agana and bettered that of RMS to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.

Of course, as we have explained several times before, RMS is NOT "wholly-subject" to the Archbishop as he claims. It is "wholly-subject" in terms of CONTROL to the Board of Guarantors of which Apuron has only a 25% say and the Neocatechumenal Responsible Team for the U.S. has the rest. 

Nevertheless, the CCOG thought they'd ask the Archbishop to return the property to the Archdiocese of Agana, if only for the record. 

The Archbishop did not respond...of course.

Dear Archbishop Apuron,

If you will not respect the liturgical norms which recommend such announcements to take place "outside of Mass" (most recently emphasized in Redemptionis Sacramentum No. 74), at least respect the rights of parents who bring their minor children to Mass and who may not want them to hear your seminarians speak from the sacred altar about missing the embrace of a woman and the other sordid crap you and your perverted friends seem to have a fetish for hearing. 

Archbishop, you are lucky I wasn't sitting in this congregation with my minor children. For if I was, I would have found an attorney to sue you for violating my rights as a parent, for violating what I thought I was bringing my children to attend (a HOLY Catholic Mass), for psychological and emotional harm, and for anything else my attorney or I could think of. 

In fact, it is time for those of you who are subjected to this kind of crap to stop eating it. Get up and walk out. Then sue him.

   Yesterday at mass in Talofofo, a seminarian spoke right before the final blessing. It seems that this is the accepted practice. He spoke how he misses the embrace of a woman and partying. But since he found God in the seminary he is able to fight of those demons. He is a 22 yrs old and has been in the seminary for 5 yrs. It looks like this the norm to become a seminarian. He even used the word freakin on the place where the Word is proclaimed. Now the bishop is coming for his dog and pony show on Wed.

   This seminarian needs to learn much. He subscribes to Manichean dualism which places spiritual and material realities at odds with each other. I hope the seminary he is in fully educates him on the dangers of this philosophy. Women are not the enemy, it is him and his integrity. In fact, one has to be fully immersed and aware of the human condition because we are not wingless angels that are apart from earthly reality.

Sadly, he hopes the seminary will educate him on the "dangers of this philosophy". I say "sadly" because THIS IS WHERE HE LEARNED IT.

AFTER accounting firm Deloitte & Touche LLC determined the Archdiocese of Agana’s finances were not auditable, the archdiocese’s administration took matters into its own hands and completed what the Chancery Office said is an “internal review” of financial affairs.

   An Open Letter to Archbishop Apuron:
   
   Dear Archbishop Apuron,
   
   I hope you were able to listen to Pope Francis' recent message on the role of fathers. It is one that resonates with families, in the traditional and pastoral sense. Though I am not a father, I can easily connect to the Pope's words because for years growing up in this archdiocese - we have had no "Father." Instead we have a man, dressed in the cloth and takes on the title of Shepherd, who has been absent from his ministry as pastor and father to us all.

I had already intended to keep the post about Archbishop Apuron's Great Deception of December 6, 2011 front and center for awhile, which is why I haven't posted anything new in the last 24 hours.

So last week AAA called a meeting with the presbyteral council. At the meeting AAA trotted out Jackie Terlaje to do another smear job on Msgr. James, or rather, to try Msgr. James in absentia. 

At least one priest stood up and asked AAA if he had yet spoken with Msgr. James about the matters he seems to be so perpetually concerned with. AAA did not answer. 

Meanwhile, while Jackie Terlaje and her pathetic little crew scratch in the dirt to find more crap to smear Msgr. James with and other likewise pathetic little people wail on and on about the money from the tourist donation box, the rest of us have not forgotten about AAA's 40 million dollar fraud perpetuated on the trusting Catholics of Guam.
