FIDUCIA SUPPLICANS

By Tim Rohr

As many now know, Pope Francis has authorized priestly blessings for couples in "irregular unions," including same-sex unions. Most of what is in the news is filtered one way or another so you are encouraged to read the source document as posted on the Vatican website.

  1. I see so many Neo-con Popesplainers taking the "well the Pope didn't actually mean that" line. Do you ever read the fine-print when you're accepting terms and conditions? The nuances in the document mean nothing if, as predicted, the only message that gets out is that same-sex couples can get a blessing. A schism is coming--it might not be a formal schism but at least de facto schism. And we're going to have to choose a side.

    1. "The pope didn't really mean that..." has been the "popeslainers" opening line for just about everything this pope has said since he first opened his mouth as pope.

  2. The men that wrote Fiducia Supplicans and knew what they were doing. It's deliberate weaponized confusion and under the principals it lays out I can't see how it doesn't exclude a married man and his mistress from getting a blessing from a priest.

    1. True. I had the feeling while reading it that I was in a game of three shell monte.
