----- Forwarded Message -----

Dear C-B Lectors and Extra-ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion,

Effective yesterday, 26 January 2015, I no longer serve as "Coordinator" of Ministers in charge of scheduling nor will I be serving as Minister of the Word or Extra-ordinary Minister of Holy Communion.

Attached is a letter.  It is self explanatory.

I thank you all for your support and cooperation these past years.  Let us continue to pray for one another and for the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica parish family.

Love and peace,

Lulu

Rev. Msgr. David C. Quitugua, Rector
Dulce  Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica
Hagatna, Guam
                                                                                    January 26, 2015
Dear Msgr. David,
During the past six months, I have been attending and serving at Mass at the Cathedral-Basilica with grief and a sense of loss.  I have remained faithful to my ministries as Lector and Extra-ordinary Minister of Holy Communion.  I continued to serve as “coordinator” of the ministers preparing the schedule, making sure that the Sunday Masses and “special “ Masses were covered.  And I prayed daily for guidance to serve faithfully and wholeheartedly and to be an encouragement and inspiration to my fellow ministers.   I so wanted to be a part in putting our parish that has been so broken back together again.  And as days, weeks, months have gone by it has gotten harder to be that encouraging soul.  And with the events that transpired this past weekend, I felt so alone in my efforts.
Msgr. David, I said “yes” to you on that afternoon of August 7, 2014, when you called me for my help.  I would’ve said “yes” to anything that would facilitate the healing process.  I believed then that, we, the parishioners of the Cathedral-Basilica, will be okay.   I was so hopeful. But what you and your Finance Council did to Msgr. James this past weekend was downright MEAN!!!   It’s alright to “commit to transparency”.  But what you and your Finance Council did was deliberately malicious and hurtful.  Msgr. David, how can you do that to your own brother priest?  Would Christ have done the same thing?   In addition to Msgr. James, you also added salt to the wounds of his family, especially his mother.  It hurts to see the ones you love hurting.  Can you imagine your own mother going through the same ordeal?
I was away for seven weeks.  In the past, I always looked forward to coming home to Joey and my ministries at the parish.  I didn’t even mind giving extra time to “payback” for all the Sundays and week days that someone else had to minister in my place.  But this time was so unlike the past.  Yes, I looked forward to coming home to Joey. But I was struggling with my feelings about coming back to my other home, the parish.   I felt so weighed down.  And after yesterday’s Umatuna Si Yu’osinsert and page two of today’s PDN, I don’t see any effort or even a desire in you or the archbishop towards healing and reconciliation for our parish.
And so with sadness and a very heavy heart and a need to pray I am stepping away from the ministries of Lector and Extra-ordinary Minister of Holy Communion at the Cathedral-Basilica effective today, 26 January 2015.
With my continued prayers,
Lulu Duenas

Lulu and Joey Duenas have served in different ministries at the Cathedral-Basilica for decades, so this must have been a very difficult decision for her to make. Apart from the ministries mentioned in her letter, Lulu has also served as the cantor and co-music minister at the 6PM Saturday Evening Masses.

I hope Lulu's decision knocks some sense into the heads of Msgr. David C. Quitugua, Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron and Sister Marian Arroyo so that they may take concrete steps toward healing and reconciliation.

God bless you, Lulu, and thank you for your decades of service.

  3. Thank you Madame Lulu Duenas.

I feel the grief of your pain .

Please attend Holy Mass in another Church where there are non neo priests. Friary would be an ideal place to hear Holy Mass.

  4. Lulu, may God continue to bless you and your family. You have served our church and CB parishioners for many many years. Thank you for your service!

  5. Good for you LULU, you can finally join Monsignor in Tamuning with all the musicians, alter servers, lectorS and Church leaders who have also decided to leave The Cathedral. I know you tried and gave it a last ditch effort! Now you know how these priests really are. They are evil in everyday and should be ashamed of their actions. We will continue to pray for our church...

  6. My heart aches as I read this because, as a longtime parishioner of CB, I can totally relate to what Lulu is saying. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL! There really is no intent of the part of the current CB administration and AAA to reconcile and make amends. After Msgr. James and the staff were ousted, I struggled daily trying to decide whether to leave my beloved parish to search for a new "home". But my family and I remained committed to Santa Marian Kamalen and continue to attend masses and other activities of CB. The last glimmer of hope is fast fading. I'm afraid --like Lulu -- the recent and repeated demeaning of Msgr. James is the last straw! Our entire family asks our good Lord to bring resolve to the plight of our island Catholics. Lord have mercy on us and we pray for those who are directly and indirectly responsible for our fracture in our faithful community! In closing, I pray that the VG ponder Lulu's question of him about imagining his own mother having to endure the pain and suffering as Mrs. Benavente has. For shame! Sen esau y bidan-miyui nu y åmko'. Biba Katoliku

    1. Obviously it's really difficult for them to figure out that the more they attack msgr James, the worst it looks for them. But then again, what else did we expect of their small minds? They'll NEVER figure it out. All I gotta say is "keep it coming, love! Keep it coming love! Don't stop it now. Don't stop it now. No, no, don't stop it now!". Even better tune to clap and dance to than anything by your beloved kiko. Come on tony, david, adrian, let's dance. Maryann, you can lead in front just like with the choir!

  7. What is happening now at the Cathedral reminds me of the dying days of a dictatorship when erstwhile friends and ministers are starting to desert the dictator. What a courageous act by Lulu. Praying that more will follow her lead.

    1. 8.54pm. Interesting point is it is the respected older members of the Guam community speaking out on the evil dictatorship.
When people like Lulu and Carmen talk world stops to listen with respect. These are the respected people who sit in our pews praying and supporting priests . Their voice must be heard. Thank you to Tim Rohr for publishing these voices, they cry for help, with deep grief, to bring an end to the most evil dictatorship ever in the catholic church of Guam.

    2. Thank you, Ms. Lulu Duenas for this. Just maybe it will open their eyes to the wrong that they are doing. Yours is the sound of reason. You even were decent enough to write to them so that your reaction will not be a waste. You told them in no uncertain terms why you did what you did. I like the time that you gave them to mend their ways but truly the insert last Sunday was unbelievable. We couldn't even imagine that they were capable of that. So low.
I would just like to comment about the dying days of a dictator. There are two kinds of people who jump ship. Those who do due to conscience and those who do because of consciousness. Due to consciousness is selfish. Doing only so they can preserve whatever influence or power they have to the next administration. Doing only for their own sake. You, Ms. Duenas, is of the former. Ms. Duenas and Ms. Kasperbauer, you are sounds of reason. I salute you. I salute Ms. Kasperbauer. I salute both of you.

'Thank you' is the best prayer that anyone could say.
We should all say that one a lot.
Thank you expresses extreme gratitude, humility, understanding.
so once again 'Thank You' with Love and Peace and Family

  10. Mrs. Duenas, Thank you for your services. I feel your pain but I don't want the neo cult to think that they're ridding all of the true Catholics from the Archdiocese. Please stay true and continue to pray to our Lord in the parish that you and Mr. Duenas have called home. It doesn't belong to AAA, David, Adrian, or the neo cult. It belongs to the people who are the Church. We will prevail because good will always defeat evil. Our Lord Jesus Christ is a Testament to that! May God continue to bless you and Mr. Duenas. Amen!

  11. The struggle IS real.

My sister has been praying so hard for months, wanting to leave the Cathedral, but at the same time wanting to "protect" it from the Neo Catechumenates. She talks about how heavy her heart becomes when she sees AAA and David, and how guilty this makes her feel when she consumes the Body of Christ. She has a sense of duty, as a long time Parishioner of the Cathedral, to do this.

She asked my advice and I told her that God would protect his Church, and that she's committed by her baptism vows to protect her faith, to nurture and grow it. As it is, this internal struggle is making her heart harden and Mass is far from the celebration she deserves to attend. She deserves to be present for the Eucharist. She deserves to hear the Word of God preached without wanting to walk out of the Church. She deserves to have her soul uplifted on Sundays instead of fighting an internal struggle between faith and loyalty. She deserves this because she is a woman whose faith and devotion many not only admire, but strive to emulate. Myself included.

Joey, Lulu and my sister are by no means alone in this struggle. There are so many others whose intent is to protect their Parish, yet they find themselves alone in the darkness, sheep bleating for a shepherd who's intentionally turned his deaf ear towards them.

This past Sunday, we heard about Jesus calling his Disciples as they fished, telling them he would make them Fishers of Men. And they said yes. AAA and David, don't forget who your real master is, who you said "yes" to before Kiko came into your life.

Lulu, there’s no doubt your decision was a very difficult one. You upheld your commitment and desire to continue serving our Holy Catholic Church and Faith in your parish. When we encounter conflict and a division, such as what we are experiencing in our Catholic Church, the Holy Spirit enlightens and guides us and our conscience points us towards the direction to follow because Truth, who is Jesus Christ in the Holy Trinity, always prevails!

Thank you for the courage you mustered Lulu, not only in following your conscience but for acting on your conscience, publicly. May God and our Lady of Kamalin continue to bless you, Joey and your family, and all families, clergy and individuals impacted by this spiritual battle and division in our Holy Catholic Church on Guam.

  13. this is pretty sad. knowing joey and lulu, their devotion, faith and commitment to the church their whole lives this decision must have been heart-breaking. i am sending prayers for peace and comfort to them.

i was directed to this passage and hope its cool if i post it here. it gave me clarity and strength, perhaps some of your readers will gain some as well. I also invite everyone to support the prayer services this weekend. you don't need to anything special except join others in the power of positive prayer and comaraderie.

Matthew 15:12 "Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

The Pharisees were offended because Jesus proclaimed that the things that were important to them were not necessarily important to God. The Pharisees were legalistic in their approach to serving God, thinking that a show of piety was as important as true righteousness. Religiousness does not equal righteousness, but people down through the generations make that same mistake.

Jesus said to leave blind religious leaders and blind followers alone, and let them all fall down together. Some people are so wicked that God gives them over to their own destruction.
2 Thessalonians 2:11 "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

  14. I am an outsider looking in and for the past few months have been frequently reading posts and articles on this blog. I went back and forth in my head and heart pondering if I should even say anything and most especially, if I even had any right to express myself. I have a long history in this local catholic church on Guam and most certainly the Agana Cathedral. I have countless close relatives and friends from the Neo Movement as well as those who have chosen the traditional style and practice. Watching and listening to the events that have transpired and unfolded recently is most painful, disturbing and disheartening. The topper was reading tonight's post from Lulu Duenas. Archbishop Apuron, back when I was young and active at the Cathedral parish, you so inspired me. We all affectionately knew you as "Father Tony"!! What happened to that person? Is that person still inside? Is it true that greed, pride and selfishness has turned you into someone else? So many of you in this Neo Movement I've known over the years and love, cherish and respect you because of our friendship and our kindred relationship. Are you really going to let this movement cause great pain, discord, mistrust and break ties and bonds that have held all our families and friendships together? This is a small island. The effects of this has reached it's boiling point. I hear countless times from many that all it takes for healing to begin is a sincere admittance and apology. This can be done. It takes fortitude, a humble heart, and a willingness. We all make mistakes and realize things many times when it seems too late. With God, it's never too late. He is ever ready to forgive and by the Holy Spirit working in and through everyone who is affected, peace can be restored. Please, wake up and get a hold of yourself. Stop allowing others' lies and false dreams of grandeur continue to sway and hold you captive. I will continue to pray for God's will, plan and purpose in all of this.

Thank you Mr. Rohr for all of your efforts in bringing us together through this blog. This certainly has been a centralized way for us to come together and express our thoughts and hearts through the medium of print. Blessings to you and your precious family! I'm sure they have felt the strain of your attention and time it must take to keep things up to date and organized in this blog.

First, they don't have a social hall (like ChalanPago, Barrigada, etc) adjacent to the church for their frenzied gatherings. Secondly, the altar table is stationary and therefore can't be moved to be their center stage. Now Agana Hts, that's a different story. Yup, I'll put money on that that's their next coup d'état! just my opinion...I'm a nobody though ;) But God likes me "just the way I am", right?

Furthermore, be willing to give more of yourselves to your parish. Help is always needed in some form or another. 26. we turned off the auto-donate to CB at our bank today. one of the hardest things because we were taught to care for our church and to tithe as we could. though we have not attended mass at CB since the unceremonious dump on Msgr. James, we felt obliged to continue supporting the church. After seeing how despicable and low-rent this ego-centric pack of pigs starting with the AAA to the triumpvirate of fools: Edi=UDU, David the deceptor and Adrian the ass; the two fence-riding siblings Bibi and Mirian (meaningless bottom-feeders) then you add the cesspool of freaks that are the NEO-NAZI's that culminated in the disaster of the Umatuna and its 'insert' last Sunday.

I'm with Anonymous at 3:22pm - leave the Capuchin Parishes alone! It would also be really great if they would move that awful 'Invitation' sign in front of SAS to the transfer station with the rest of the trash.

My friends Joey and Lulu, God be with you in this troubling time. We celebrated Mass so many times over the years and now we are nomads looking for our disjointed parish family.

    1. That might be okay if you don't have children. I wanted my children to grow up in an authentic Catholic Church wherein Christ is ultimately worshipped in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. No guarantee you're getting that at CB anymore.

    2. Not only for children Tim but for we adults also. We want to go Mass on Sunday Morning and weekdays, we want to be at exposition benediction Sunday evening, rosary and devotions. The authentic faith we grew up in. This is what we want to return to. The authentic faith of the church. We also want our bishop and priests to be real bishops and priests we respect. Not the kind Apuron and his pathetic evil minions are flooding the island with.

    3. What the hell? There's only 800 of them neocraps and thousands of us real catholics. If they desire to be different fine, we don't have a problem with that. What we have a problem with is the way theyre FORCING us to change and taking over our churches. Excuse me, if you neocraps haven't noticed or too dumb and closed minded to figure out, we were here first! We worked real hard, our parents worked real hard, our true priests worked real hard to support and build our churches. You can't just come to our island and do as you please. Go build your own churches, your new neo Way churches and leave us the hell alone. Better yet' go back to where you all came from. If this is how you all gonna disrespect us, we don't need you. We don't want you here!

      Delete
    4. There's not much you can do. AAA will put priests where he wants them. The only way to stop him now is public protests. But I'm not going to call for that. It's going to need to be people like you. You can do it in the form of praying publicly, or you can do it as an all out protest. But its the only thing that will work now. AAA has shown he has no regard for reconciliation nor Rome's desire to fix things.

    7. So Timothy, my children and I attend and participate in the Mass at several villages (I am from Agat, my husband is from Piti, and my stepchildren are in Tamuning), does that mean my "Churches' are not authentic? Where can I go to attend the authentic Church. I don't want to be led astray.

      Delete
    8. @3:39PM. I would be concerned about attending Mass or receiving any of the sacraments by anyone who was ordained from RMS. We already know that they believe something different about the eucharist - which is why they insist on a different communion rite, and we also have already seen how little regard they have for the sacrament of confession, using it to promote their catechesis as a penance.

      Delete
    9. But Timothy, the Masses we attend is the same in each Church, even celebrated by a priest who was ordained from the RMS. What is the difference in the how they celebrate the regular Mass with the capuchins or other diocesan priests. I really want to know what the differences are. I never attended their Sat Masses. I do know that the RMS priests give really good homilies... somewhat dynamic and demonstrative... but it keeps my teens interested. Other diocesans and capuchins also give good homilies.

      Delete
    10. Now I am concerned. The Masses I attended in Agat are not valid because the priest believes in a different eucharist, does that mean I need to get my family to go to confession cause we really did not attend the true Mass? for a couple of years? Please I am confused, the RMS priest is not really a priest?

      Delete
    11. I should have said this in my first reply, but it is easy to tell that you are an impostor. However, I decided to let your little drivel get published so that I could use it to instruct others who really do have sincere questions and are not stupid enough to think they can set me up.

So for the others who care, in order for a sacrament to be valid, a priest must intend at least what the church intends. We cannot be sure of that with those ordained from RMS since they privately mock the authority of the real Church in their private eucharists. What they show to us is simply a charade so they can appear to be legit...for now.

      Delete
    12. At 4:36. It's hard for me to believe you are really that stupid. So I'm assuming you are a Kiko trying to set me up. Sorry. Won't work. But for the others. No. It is not your fault. You have no way of knowing what the priest intends so you can't be culpable. However, since I know what they do in private - which is to simply disobey what Rome requires - then I have a duty to myself and my children to at least seek out a priest who will celebrate Mass as Rome requires - whether in private or in public.

      Delete
    13. 4.36. Not sure you are sincere or not. However, Tim gives an excellent answer in 4.42pm.Holy mass must be celebrated by a priest who acts in his intention in unity with the mind of the church. Certainly best to avoid mass by any priests who does not intend to carry out the intention of the church in any Sacramemt.

      Delete
    14. 4:36 stop trying to be clever because you Neos are now under a microscope. It has been noted that the NCW presbyter tailor their celebrations because they know how to say the traditional mass (for the non neos) and the Kiko mass complete with flowers on the altar, tambourines, hand clapping, guitar strumming, and Kiko approved songs. Traditional mass lasts about an hour while a Kiko event lasts 2 to 3 hours, depending on how many step up to talk story. They deviate from prescribed communion practice (more like in defiance of the Vatican's wishes). But you know all this, you buffoon

  30. I read a post here somewhere about confirmation in Barrigada. I thought that the grade level for those receiving Confirmation was in the 11th grade? Apparently these teenagers are not even of that age! Why do the rest of us have to wait for our children to go through pre-con class in the 10th grade and Confirmation class in the 11th grade? Are these people special?

Oh yeah, they are children of NCW members and are of the age to walk the WAY! Here is where the division of those in the NCW get previlidge so and the rest of us need more theological education.

Enough said. This has been a real pain in the ass. The biggest pain now is actually pulling away from the church. Anthony APURON you are nothing but a weakling within the church. Your neo parish run by their own rules. To each his own.

My soul may be dammed in hell for now changing my religion, but I am sure God will understand.
I guess this has pushed me over the edge.

    1. I think you should reconsider that last line. You have just let them win. Click on the picture of my book in the sidebar "Why I'm Catholic". Get a free electronic copy of it or email me your email address privately and I will send you a pdf. It's short. Don't take hell lightly. It's forever. And yes, God will understand if you choose to go there. Don't.

    2. Anonymous at 11:52PM, Tim is correct! By leaving, you have just let them win and given Satan a victory! That's exactly what Satan desires! Hell is forever and Satan wants that to be our destination for all time! Choose Heaven and eternity with Jesus instead! Our Catholic faith is not based on humans here on earth. Learn your faith! Stay and fight for your salvation and your children's salvation. The Catholic Church has the Truth. You won't find The Eucharist in any protestant or non-denominational church. You stated in your post that Apuron is "nothing but a weakling within the church". Well then, prove that statement right! Show him you are stronger! Fight the good fight! Stay in the Church!

    3. Jesus/God used the good Samaritan as an example of someone who is going to heaven. He told this to a Jew. Jews didn't like Samaritans back then and still to this day require them to convert. Samaritans do not believe in Jesus. Welcoming non-believers speaks well of a god.

    4. Anon @ 8:23 AM, stop listening to Presbyter Jucutan. You just demonstrated a classic example of " abak calling lost ". LOL

  31. REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Please Sweet Mother, Help us with our plea.

Capuchins are taken out of their parishes like what the did in agat. Fr. Jason is neo but I guess he wasn't inviting enough that they transfered him to Saipan. But, Alberto Rodriguez (wasn't he the first neo priest in Barrigada?? And wasn't his name back then Alberto Salamanka???) This one is buddies with AA and trying his best to change the parish....there use to be pictures on the rectory wall of priest who served in agat, that was taken down --they were all capuchins. He don't like it if you talk about them. We'll see what's going to happen on AA's ''parish visit'' on February. Hopefully the outspoken parishioners attend. Funny how the neo's down there where never active parishioners till they started walking ''Their Way''. They even took over a funeral yesterday, one of their members passed so arrangement of the funeral was from Barrigada--funeral booklet, choir, as well as lectors.

    1. I know that the Agat Neo community has many members from other villages.

    2. Let's all remember that Presbyter Alberto was witness to the deed of restriction for the Yona property. He signed the document as the vice chancellor for the archdiocese.

    3. Wrong..Jason was sent to Saipan because of his Tagalo' language....it is easier for him to picK up the Chamorro language than any other " piss biters". They are grooming him to be the next Obispo.

    4. Jason will not be accepted as bishop. We are very clear who will be accepted.

    5. He has not been ordained nealy long enough to be ordained bishop.

  32. they are trying but I don't think it would really work..........they are not afraid to voice out and fight with even their assign priest. You can change the priest but you can't change the village hard and bad attitude. They're all family down there and stand as tight as they can even if one strays. February 17, 2015 parish visit..............your turn Agat.

    1. Non neo Agat parishioners, your parents and grandparents made great sacrifices to build Mt. Carmel church. It would be a crying shame to allow the Neos to dictate how they want things done their way in your parish. Are you going to allow this? You can forget about saying "Agat Rules" if the Neos win.
