GOOD NEWS

Good news. The good owners of Java Junction in Hagatna have agreed to facilitate the distribution of good Catholic books. If you would like a copy of any of the books I promote just message me and I will leave however many copies you'd like at Java Junction. Payment can be left there when you pick them up. And while you're there, sit down and enjoy their coffee.

  1. I definitely would encourage every Catholic (every CCOG member specifically) to get a copy of “Triumph” – and read it cover to cover. I thought I knew my church history well after so many years of study, but after reading this book (I am re-rereading it for the second time), I have learned so much more of my faith and its history – and applied its lessons to the present crisis we are going through with our own situation. Among the many lessons I learned is that what we are going through right now with the NCW sect and our own frustrations in trying to get our Church back is NOTHING NEW! It is as old as the Church itself. So we should not lose heart over the evils of our times.

I found this paragraph from Chapter II (“How the Catholic Church Saved Christianity”) extremely apropos to what we are going through. It’s as if the author (H.W. Crocker III) was writing about us, and admonishing us. It is found on page 33:

“… There was a quasi Christian sect for every taste. There was a sect that that believed that every sin had to be tried. There was a sect who denied that Jesus was a man (the Docetists) and those who denied that he was God (the Theodotians). To go through every heresy would be tedious and pointless. The important fact to grasp is that heresy has been a challenge to the church from the beginning, and though these heresies were defeated, they have never truly gone away. They are merely readapted to suit changing times. But certain themes are perennial. Many of the early heresies were what we would today call “holier than thou,” enforcing a more rigorous moral discipline than the Roman Church. Common to every heresy is the assertion of private judgments, revelation and choice against the Catholic Church’s adherence to the authoritative tradition of Apostolic Christianity.
When in the twentieth century Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger wrote , “Meaning that is self-made is in the last analysis no meaning. Meaning, that is, the ground on which our existence as a totality can stand and live, cannot be made, but only received, he was enunciating a truth as old as the Catholic faith. That belief is objective authority – based on the testimony of the Apostles and guarded by the veneration of tradition – has made the historic faith of the Catholic Church and kept it alive and triumphant through persecutions, schisms, wars, and rumors of war – outlasting every empire, constitution, and philosophy born of man…”
I couldn’t help but sense that Pope Benedict XVI was writing about our own problems, and encouraging us to “stand firm in the faith”.

I certainly commend this book to everyone. Get it! Read it! Learn from it! And live the Faith! Fortes in Fide – indeed. – jrsa (Oct 5, 2015)

    1. To Oct 6, 2:30am ANON – Thanks for the encouragement to “just read the Bible”. I do; on a regular basis. The book (“Triumph”) is not about what one needs to know regarding his faith – the deposits of faith. it is NOT a didactic book! It is a history book, that outlines what the Church had to go through over 2000 years of its existence, and from lessons learned through the book bring appreciation over what the Church had to endure over the centuries to protect it from its enemies. Did you read it? You should! You might learn a thing or two, and learn to love your Church! - JRSA.

In the meantime, maybe you might want to answer Tim’s question: “Which Bible?”

    5. Dear Anonymous @ Oct 6 2:30am and Oct 7 2:50am (insomnia, btw???)--
It is not enough to just read the Bible. As has been illustrated many times on this (and the other) blog, two people can read the same passage and interpret it differently. What you and I get from what we read depends on our past experiences, education, and what we have been exposed to.
For heaven's sake (or rather for YOUR sake!) use your sleepless nights and read different books by different authors to learn more and more about your Faith and from where it comes. Discern intelligently! Then you will be able to contribute worthwhile to the conversation.

  3. Neos do not acknowledge Church history between Constantine to Vatican II, Therefore their sect need Kiko's theology to fill in their doctrine between this period in church history, seems like Kiko adopted doctrines outside of the church, in the likes of Luther and calvin.
