CONTINUED PUBLIC HEARING ON BILL 326-33 TO MONDAY AUGUST 1 AT 10 AM

Posted by Robert Klitzkie
Otto von Bismarck's famous quote, "Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made." sometimes must be disregarded in order for a good cause. A case in point would be the two public hearings held on by Chairman Frank Aguon on Bill 326-33. Witnesses testified in front of full galleries both times.

Testimony went from the emotionally charged to well researched factual relevance. You can attend and participate in the last of these dynamic hearings because...

Chairman Frank Aguon recessed Thursday's public hearing on Bill 326-33 to Monday at 10 AM. Interested folks can submit written testimony, testify orally or lend their support just by being there. You can be sure that newly-elected CCOG President Dave Sablan, who submitted oral and written testimony at both hearings, the LFM and members of the general public who are interested in the welfare of children will attend.

To properly frame the importance of Bill 326-33 in general and Monday's public hearing in general Monday's public hearing in particular, let's take a look at a recent post by Mary Lou Garcia-Pereda:

"Mary Lou Garcia-PeredaJuly 29, 2016 at 12:23 PM

Champ's testimony was the first time the details of +Sonny's+ trauma was revealed to the public from someone who guarded the secret for more than 3 decades.

Hearing his testimony strengthened my resolve to continue fighting in memory of +Sonny Quinata+ and on behalf of the survivors whose stories have touched and horrified us as well as those unknown victims who continue to hold fast to their secret.

Some have indicated that the press conference held by the Apostolic Administrator had "checked off" one of the CCOG concerns regarding the priests and that we will stop our picketing. WRONG!!

I, for one, will continue wheeling my DEFROCK APURON sign, even as other signs enter the picket line. I cannot bear the thought of allowing a serial sexual abuser of innocent children to be buried in the sanctuary of the Cathedral-Basilica with +Bishops Olano and Baumgartner+ and +Archbishop Flores.+"

Mary Lou's words are a call to action for us all.

So--see you at the sausage factory, er, I mean legislature on Monday at ten.

  3. Thought all those who wished to talk at the hearing did so. Now senate hearing is extended. Who will make a dramatic entrance Monday?

  4. My testimony at the Public Hearing for Bill 326-33 was simple, "We can no longer expect the Church to fix itself." I was not moved by Hon's press conference to stop picketing. Now that he's agreed that Fr. Paul's and Msgr. James' removal were without merit, both priests have yet to be made whole. Hon may be sneaky enough to send them to the seminary to clean toilets. See you Sunday at the picket line. My battle cry remains unchanged: "Restore Priests; Return Land; Remove Apuron and make sexual victims whole.
