PDN: CHANGES RECOMMENDED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE BILL

Changes recommended for child sex abuse bill

A bill that would make it easier for victims to sue alleged child molesters by lifting the statute of limitations is getting wide community support, but the Judiciary, Attorney General Elizabeth Barrett-Anderson and other members of the legal community have recommended changes to the bill to support its intent.

  1. This has been posted a number of times, but bears repeating; justice before unity.

  2. Without retribution there is no justice...period. Hiding behind the cloth, especially the Episcopate, is nauseating and beyond comprehension. Every Bishop that covers-up the "crimes" of the clergy or religious is equally culpable in a court of law. Apurun is liable on both counts.
Apurun was counting on Rome's paralysis and Kiko's influence, but now will face civil justice. I believe this is why he (Apu)ran to Rome to seek diplomatic immunity. If he is laicized then he loses that immunity. (So don't count on it)

  3. According to KUAM, Senator Underwood wants a " Clear policy for Sexual Abuse in the Department of Education" to protect our school children. I know she has oversight for Education but she is also a senator for the entire island. Therefore, if she truly wants to protect our children, I hope she clearly supports this bill.

  4. Not having seen what this AG-recommended substitute bill is (good, bad, better, worse?), I will withhold comment. My only concern is: since it is a substitute bill, does this pre-empt the original Bill 326-33, with its 3-hour long written/oral testimonies? When will the public get to see Substitute Bill 326? Let's hope everything is on the "up-and-up"!

    1. I agree with you Anon 4:48 - Why is it when a Bill has a public hearing and all concerned give their testimonies that someone can just walk in and say "I have a Recommended Substitute Bill", especially from the so called AG. Do not totally trust her so I am hoping that someone on the LFM and CCoG is keeping an eye on this, reading between the lines of what this "Substitute Bill", and is able to let us know what this is all about. I am totally law illiterate and need someone to explain to me in "layman" language.

  5. I am not the law though will AAA be in double trouble? 1. Being the accused. 2. In the Fr. Luis case who then immediately resigned, shipped off, and low and behold found to be an active priest.

  6. Is Barrett Anderson proposing a softer bill to ease effects of bill on Apuron? Based on stance on the RMS property title fiasco with land management, I would not be surprised if Lizzy is walking in the WAY and is doing everything in her power to help out Tony boy.

    2. I watched each video and my first thought was - The Catholic Church Cannot Be Blamed for All These Atrocities (an extremely wicked or cruel act, typically one involving physical violence or injury)! It is the "Human Beings" who Control The Church that should be held responsible. It is a Very Materialistic World and even the Vatican has gotten caught up with "Worldly Goods"! Please Remember That When You Die, All You Take With You are the Clothes You Have On! All Your Worldly Goods will be distributed to those who you leave behind! I Love My Catholic Church and Hope That One Day We Will Again Have "True Priests" Who Believe in the Simple Teachings of Our Lord. Fortunately I do know of several Priests on Guam and I am praying that they can continue their beautiful works for the Lord.

    3. Just watched all three and what an eye-opener. Always thought that something was not right with what is going on with my Catholic Church and now it is "Right in My Face"!

I just hope that everyone one knows that IT IS NOT THE CHURCH, BUT THE HUMANS WHO ARE LEADING THE CHURCH.

    4. It is a long documentary (1 hour 46 minutes and 33 seconds) and at times nauseating, but worth your time and attention. We are not alone. Voices around the world are crying out. Some people are listening.

      Silent No More!

  8. Thank you Anon @Jul 09/9:46 p.m. for the You Tube references. Any one of these should be publicized over and over again. The Catholic Church as an organization should first acknowledge the problem exists and exists worldwide.
Refusing to acknowledge it is a problem in itself. Getting rid of the opportunities to prey on the young (boys and girls) could be part of the solution -- perhaps by replacing young altar servers with adults?

  9. No worries about the substitute. It will be stronger and there will be a second hearing. We had to toughen the bill to go after Hon too.
