AS EXPECTED

As expected, because there is no refuting the facts I lay out, opponents have taken to personal attacks on me and my motives. The typical theme they choose is traditionalists against the NCW. This is some serious grasping. You will not see anywhere in this discussion any encouragement to become a traditionalist, whatever that is.

I certainly have encouraged people to find another parish if they can no longer worship in peace and good conscience at the one they attend. I have not recommended any other parish in particular.

According to my opponents, my aim here is to rid the island of the NCW. If that was my aim, I would not have kept quiet all these years. I had the evidence in hand - as documented - from 2006 onward. I had little care to use it and really could care less if the NCW did not follow their norms. As stated on several occasions, it didn't affect me. Guam had bigger problems in my estimation, and my record on addressing those bigger problems stands on its own.

The reason the conversation has moved from Fr. Paul to the NCW is easy to understand. Everyone knows the Archbishop's agenda. It was only a matter of time before Fr. Paul would be in the firing line. He is the pastor of the largest parish on the island and has resisted the establishment of the NCW in his parish for several years. Fr. Paul knew this was coming. Everyone knew this was coming. And come it did. The Fr. Paul affair is just a microcosm of the larger war that has been going on for over a decade.

I am in possession of several documents relative to the Fr. Paul affair but have refrained from posting them in order to allow the case to go to Rome where it will be reviewed by the Congregation for the Clergy. From the looks of it, it doesn't look good for the Archbishop, and the appeal even goes so far as to posit the possibility of ulterior motives in the firing of Fr. Paul. Well, we all know what those are, don't we.

The real question the NCW needs to be asking is not about my motives but "Why have we not conformed to our own statute?" Perhaps the Archbishop has the answer. Ask him.

  1. 6 " I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.

    1. I do not understand the point of citing this verse from Holy Scripture. Please explain.

    2. I can see how it applies to Fr. Paul. Fr. Paul reached out to a man who was lost(did a terrible deed many ears ago) and brought him and hos family back into the fold, and for being merciful, he faced an arduous and painful closure as pastor at the hands of his unmerciful shepherd, Archbishop Apuron.

    3. Anonymous (December 21, 2013 at 10:11 AM); Your application of Zoltan's citing of Holy Scripture to Fr. Paul certainly resonates with me. I can see how, in these current events, Jesus represents Fr. Paul while the Pharisees represent the Archbishop and his minions.

However I think Zoltan's intention was to put a new "spin" to these verses so that Jesus represents the NCW while the Pharisees — who "... went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus …" — represent Tim and others who raise concerns/questions about the NCW.

  2. Zoltan,

I just read your blog about the idea of contemplative consumption and immediate consumption not being in contradiction but rather serves as a variation. Please explain how one can be a variance of the other when there is a clear difference of terms. Also, in your blog you assert that Tim is acting in the place of the pharisees in his attempt to correct certain practices. Do you therefore also assert that the NCW also has the same level of power as our Lord Himself to change practices contrary to what is handed down from the Church, especially traditions that the saints themselves were obedient to?

    2. I shall take your answer in the affirmative: that the NCW has equal authority as our Lord in the correct application of the laws of the Church.

I'll say that you misuse your quote of the Sabbath, being that our obedience to keep holy the Sabbath day is a divine law, whereas the law of attending Mass on Sunday is a humanly instituted law. For this reason, we are bound by the Church to fulfill our Sunday obligation by a Catholic Mass. A Mass is no longer Catholic when it does not conform to the laws of the Church, but rather the laws of individual sects. The NCW'S refusal to obey an order from Rome makes their Mass a rite of its own, not a rite common to all Catholics.

    4. You take whatever you want, but I don't have anything to do with any of your assumptions. Period.

I quoted the Lord for you because you extremely brave and courageous Anonymous folks who keep swarming in this Jungle-blog, your natural home, and keep repeating your own zombie-like mantra over and over again, you guys may not have ever read anything from Him. Perhaps it is time to start to read and to understand His Word...?

Here are some hints for better understanding:

Jesus talks about some control freak book worms of His time, the Pharisees, who claimed blasphemy by wrongly applying the words of some misunderstood text in order to oppress righteous acts. The spiritual children of the Pharisees of our time try to oppress contemplative consumption of the Eucharistic Host by claiming violation of the prescriptions in the liturgical books.

I somehow cannot see much difference between these two generations of Pharisees, they all turn deaf ears to the Words of the Lord. At the same time they claim righteousness exclusively for themselves. But, in fact, they have no basis at all to claim any righteousness for themselves apart from the Lord.

    6. "Zoltan" is what happens when you become your own magisterium. You start to believe your word is The Word and anyone who differs must be a Pharisee.

    7. Yes, you are Pharisees: you are riding on letters without understanding the Word!

  7. Interesting that I come across an article on the net..... "Catholic culture, but in their own way". Read what Archbishop Apuron says...sure sums it all about what Tim was saying on disobedience.
