MORE STUPIDITY

The letter soliciting donations for the Archbishop's 70th birthday party notes that the "Diocese (sic) of Agana is a 501(c)3 organization, hence all donations are tax deductible."

I'd like to know when the Archdiocese of Agana applied for a 501(c)3 status. This is really stupid. Churches are automatically tax-exempt and do not need 501(c)3 status.

Special rules with respect to section 501(c)(3) organizations.
(a) New organizations must notify secretary that they are applying for recognition of section 501(c)(3) status. (b) Presumption that organizations are private foundations.
(c) Exceptions.
(1) Mandatory exceptions. Subsections (a) and (b) shall not apply to
(A) churches, their integrated auxiliaries, and conventions or associations of churches.

It is stupid because it unnecessarily subjects the Archdiocese of Agana to limitations on its activities:
"For a 501c3 church to openly speak out, or organize in opposition to, anything that the government declares "legal," even if it is immoral (e.g. abortion, homosexuality, etc.), that church will jeopardize its tax exempt status."
In fact, threatening its 501(c)3 status played a major role in shutting up the church during the same-sex union debate in 2010:
Church’s tax exemption questioned - Marianas Variety, Aug. 31, 2010
For a church leadership not to know something so basic that it was already automatically tax-exempt and did not need to unnecessarily subject itself to the restrictions of a 501(c)3, especially in regards to its ability to publicly address serious moral issues, is more evidence of the kind of clownish, inept leadership that we all have grown terribly weary of, and all the more reason why we SHOULD NOT donate to this fake birthday party so Apuron can go on more junkets with his South American faves while trashing the real diocesan vocation of local boys.

  1. Isn't RMS a separate non profit organization? Does it have its own 501 (c) 3 status? So maybe all the donations will be going to the 501(c)3 entity, RMS?

  2. Will AAA dance at his shindig? If so, I'm going. Can't get enough of that.

Not only is it a fake birthday party it is really so cheap for a 70 year old supposed mature individual to use his birthday as a fundraiser. In all honesty cultured educated people do not use their special day to make personal money to fly around the world like a frivolous wannabe. If he wants to do this them he must do it on personal money not money belonging to people of God. Problem with this fool he never drew the line between what is personal wealth and what is church wealth. He thinks resources of the church belong personally belong to him. They do not. Best interest of the church Catholics should not support this hideous gala since it amounts to nothing more than giving him shopping money to shop in Bloomingdales. He is just one big international joke.

    2. @1:28 AM. Fr. Blockley does not answer to Apuron, the shameful archbishop who turned against Guam's Catholics to join a foreign movement.

    3. 1:28 pm, first you have to learn to spell people's last names. You have been ranting all over this blog at an ungodly hour of around 1 am. Get some sleep, little boy, examine your conscience and cleanse them of your handler's hypnotic influence. Then ask yourself whether it is preferable to be a part of a lying and corrupt leadership or to speak the truth and be accountable for it? Open your eyes, boboy, and if you can, search your heart - look at this from the perspective of a wronged priest who is now expressing the pain and hurt that his supposed "spiritual father" inflicted on him.
Step in someone else's shoes before you cast aspersions. With so many bishops now caught with their hands on the cookie jar, be more critical of who is in the position and what they do with your money. The time for blind obedience towards ecclesiastical brass is past, the manner whereby many corrupt clergymen have milked is way back in the past.

1.28m Firstly what a stupid fool you are.
Secondly I did not go against any bishop.
Thirdly I asked myself if I am shameless the answer is No. I am simply assisting the Vatican in resolving the major problems on Guam and Saipan. I am working to bring peace to the pacific church a part of this peace is the need for the appointment of a new bishops to replace two foolish stupid bishops who between them in their inept leadership brought the pacific region to the present state of moral decay. Guam Saipan are in such moral decay because of the two fools in question. They are the cause of present disaster. 20 years of shameless leadership led to the crisis today. I watched it building up over the years knowing how it would go.

My only respect and obedience is to Cardinal Tagle, Archbishop Martin Krebs and the Holy Father. To be very honest I am a very lose canon . I respect people who deserve my respect and who respect others. I respect maids drivers the coconut vendors those in the shanty towns where I often walk. I also respect the rich and the famous for they also have dignity and integrity. I respect every person who is true and good. I do not respect fools those who abuse power in our church for personal gain. They are not true disciples of the Lord. They hide behind their office in their rich robes claiming playing God while causing pain to people's lives. This is the battle we face. We need a revolution from within to bring back God, the spiritual life, into the pacific church. God was removed in the Apuron camacho years. our role is to bring back God into a church which has lost its moral leadership. But the spiritual revolution must come from within each person . They must reach out in total trust to God and respect for the See of Peter to bring about changes. Guam and Saipan need new bishops to lead. men whose lives are built on Our Lord with a deep love for Holy Mother Church, men who serve and not be served. men who are loyal to the teachings of the church, men who are pastoral sensitive to the needs of people. Men who respect and love priests who do not cause them pain anxiety. Yes we need a spiritual revolution from within the hearts of all.The Pacific can be great again but it can only be achieved when people work with a new bishop to bring about a new vision in a new leadership. To support the present leadership is to support the death of the church in the west Pacific.

  5. Yes, it was so obvious that they are trying so hard to state who will benefit from the occasion and had to say something that is so obvious as tax exemption. This is getting really really weird. Diocese against archdiocese and one of the signatories is Msgr David the younger. You'd think he should be very thorough.

  8. When will the people on Guam stop this shameful custom of throwing, sponsoring and attending these sorry excuses for money-pandering, ass-kissing, and "favor-banking" of our so-called leaders, be they political, religious or otherwise. I used to watch as my dear mother and all her friends/relatives/ACB church goers used to attend the arch's birthday parties that they gave him at his family compound in Maite. These old ladies used to fawn over him, jockey for positions, and stuff those chinchuli baskets- and we're not talking anything less than $100.00! I tried to talk her out of it but these were their ignorant and learned beliefs. Oh, those were the good ole days, weren't they archie? (We do the same thing for our overpaid politicians). BASTA ADAI!!! Stop contributing to this nonsense people! We are not subservient parishioners or constituents! Save your hard-earned money to support your children's education and contribute to your favorite charities that actually do good for the needy and worthwhile social causes. This man and his minions don't deserve nor need your precious money or support.

      F. Leon Guerrero I could not agree with you more. You are so right. The old fool has been milking you as an ATM machine for thirty years. That's a lot of ATM. Best you can all do is empty the ATM machines so when he puts in his pin number there is a zero balance. Sadly, I supported these previous fundraising efforts...completely unaware of where the money was REALLY going. But now I know better. Please, HURRY and send the letter. Can't wait to compose the response declining your request. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! No more money for you Tony...or for any of your crooked cronies!!!

  11. When stupid people are put in charge, stupidity is the result. They can claim the donations will go to specific entities to dupe the unsuspecting but the donations will go wherever those in charge want them to go. The fact that the NCW doesn't recognize and adhere to its most recent statutes speaks volumes for how they will follow other policies, that is, how these 70th birthday donations will be spent.

  12. The sad state of affairs in the Archdiocese of Agana. Is a direct result of the complicit and naive trust that Chamorus have for people in power. Apuron ultimately believed in his imagined rockstar staus rather than the serious charge and responsibility for an Archdiocese. He neither had the brains nor the common sense to comprehend the expectations of a thinking constituency. He relied solely on the goodwill of the people and the power of his position to undermine the trust given to him.
