HOW TO ANSWER THE ABORTION QUESTION

Posted by Tim Rohr

"If you're asking me if it is ever okay to kill a helpless, defenseless, innocent human being, the answer is no."

This is how to answer the abortion question. And here's why.

First, it puts you in control of the question. Your interrogator has most likely framed the question in the context of "choice," reproductive freedom, or even "health care." And your "pro-life" answer, such as "I am for life," I oppose abortion," I believe life begins at conception," etc. is easily translated into your being against choice, against freedom, against health care, against women, etc.

By responding with...

"If you're asking me if it is ever okay to kill a helpless, defenseless, innocent human being, the answer is no."

...you are framing the issue in a way the interrogator doesn't expect and you are now on offense.

Second, by not answering this way, you are missing the opportunity to educate - which is the real missing link for "pro-lifers." Most pro-lifers still want to argue about when life begins and go on and on about life in the womb. Pro-aborts have long since left that argument. They don't contest when life begins or whether or not the "thing" is a real human being. Their argument, even if it is cast as choice, freedom, or health care, is about who can kill "it" and when.

So by answering in the aforesaid manner, you are both educating your opponent (and whoever else is listening) and also handing them their own argument in language they are not prepared to use or defend.

Also, avoid the word "abortion" whenever you can. The word has become desensitized. It also has other applications: abort a take off, abort a landing, abort a mission. Instead, use "the killing of helpless, defenseless, innocent human beings" in place of the word "abortion." Terming it this way keeps you on offense and educates.

Finally, to address the "rape, incest, and life of the mother argument" - the usual fallback for the pro-aborts and the "exception" that usually makes otherwise pro-lifers squirm, the recommended response is especially helpful:

"If you're asking me if it is ever okay to kill a helpless, defenseless, innocent human being, the answer is no."
