ESPERANSA NEWS: THE MURDER OF SHANICE WILLIAMS

We urge you to send a letter of your support for Bill 195-32 to Senator Frank Aguon, Jr, who chairs the oversight committee for this bill. Bill 195-32 is entitled the INFANT CHILD RIGHT TO LIVE ACT and would mandate normal medical care for a child who survives a failed abortion.

If this sounds familiar, it's because it is. The original version of the bill was introduced in 2010 as Bill 309-30, and though it received much public support, the bill never made it out of committee. It is hoped that the current bill will not suffer the same fate as its predecessor.

In 2001, Congress passed the "Federal Born-Alive Infants Protection Act", and since then, as of 2013, 25 states have laws creating "a specific affirmative duty of physicians to provide medical care and treatment to born-alive infants at any stage of development." (AUL.org)

To read more about the history of the Born Alive legislation, read the brief published by Americans United for Life here. To see a map showing the states with Born Alive laws, go here

The PUBLIC HEARING is scheduled for today, Thursday, October 10, 5pm at the Legislature Public Hearing Room. I, personally, will not be testifying at the hearing but will submit written testimony. Though I would like to be present, I believe it is not wise for the same faces to be constantly seen at these hearings for pro-life legislation. It is hoped others will attend.
