SMOKE RISES FROM SAN RAMON HILL...ABOUT AN HOUR AGO

Could it be a Friday afternoon victory BBQ for the Neo-crats since today was the last day for the old employees of the Cathedral-Basilica. (They've been all replaced by Neo's.) Or is it the burning of last week's U Matuna?

  6. New Archbishop has been announced. Monsignor James just named by Vatican as Guam's new leader. The people of Guam are rejoicing and are dancing and singing on the streets. Praise The Lord. Father Pius and his group of warlords are all sent to Saipan

  7. Distress signal, or maybe a hefty scoop of incense to mask the stench. GFD needs to check if they have a permit to burn.

    1. Your right! I thought you needed a permit to burn. That's a lot of smoke. How did the fire department not see this????

  11. Monsignor James would not send the warlords to CNMI. Pius will return to Malta where he belongs. Who will take him after this?

    1. This is off-topic. But does anyone know what time Msgr. Benavente will be celebrating mass this Sunday at St. Anthony's?

    3. Anonymous (August 15, 2014 at 10:14 PM), in response to your question, here's a post from the FB Community "Monsignor James - The People's Priest":

"Monsignor James will be celebrating mass on Sundays at the St. Anthony - St. Victor Church at 11:00 a.m.
Thank you for all your support and prayers."

    4. Thank you for the above information regarding Msgr. Benavente's mass schedule at St. Anthony's. I am not scheduled to be a lector or EM at the cathedral this Sunday so I will attend the 11 o'clock at St. Anthony's instead to show appreciation and support for Msgr. Benavente. He has been a good pastor to me at the cathedral especially these past 2-3 years. I was devastated when I heard the news when I was off-island and did not want to return.

  15. These photos look like they were taken while the sun was still pretty bright. I saw the smoke around 6:30 this evening as I was heading to Mass. It must have been going on for quite some time.

Anyway, I took a picture while sitting by Shirley's, waiting for the light to turn green; but my photo is much darker than any of these. I was going to post it on FB as "White smoke from San Ramon signalling a new Archbishop?" only to see that it was already a topic here on JungleWatch. LOL.

    1. Mary Lou, I hope you're not going to mass presided by a Neo priest. My position is that they're heretics, and it's a sin to participate. I understand Thomas Aquinas' theology on this but they're not really priests in my mind.

    2. Jerry, thank you so much for your concern. Rest assured, I was not on my way to attend a Mass presided by a Neo priest. I was heading to the 7 PM Mass in honor of the Feast of the Assumption at the Friary — no Neo priests there as far as I know.

I have every intention of avoiding Masses celebrated by the Archbishop and/or Neo priests because from what I have read over the years Kiko et al do not believe in transubstantiation and teach consubstantiation instead. I started my research after I heard the Archbishop's January 2006 Defense of the NCW on KOLG and was dismayed by what I learned. Of course, I was criticized for stating my intention in a comment earlier this year, but I would rather not take the risk …

I am concerned that a priest who doesn't believe in transubstantiation could celebrate Mass without the intention of changing the bread and wine into the Precious Body and Blood of Our Lord and just "go through the motions" resulting in my receiving bread and not the Body of Christ. Although I was assured by a wise and holy priest that God would not withhold His Graces from the congregation, I would rather attend Mass celebrated by a priest who maintains the traditional belief of transubstantiation to ensure I receive the Body of Christ.

    3. Don't worry, Jerry — I do my very best to stick with NON-Neo priests whenever I attend Mass. I've had to sit through a couple of Masses presided by a Neo priest and offered up those experiences for the sake of the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

  16. Could this possibly be the burning of the Umatuna that was recalled this past weekend? WOW!

  17. The Archbishop, Fr. Adrian, and Msgr. David are really making a name for themselves in our small island community. I pray that they will be remembered more benevolently in Spain than here. One day soon a spark will ignite to awaken a sleeping Chamorro giant with a terrible resolve. Our last war with Spain lasted 300 years; it won't be that long this time around.

    1. I totally agree with you Gerald about awakening a sleeping Chamorro giant. The Spanish conquerors tried to kill ALL the Chamorro males but did not succeed. 300 hundred years under Spanish rule and Guam and her people didn't have much to show other than what the Spanish built using our people our land. Thank God for educational opportunities under the American flag because we now have educated Guamanians/Chamorros who can lead and speak out against injustice and things that are wrong in our island community.

    2. Yes, Jerry and Mary Lou, you've made a VERY GOOD POINT regarding the Eucharist and the Consecration. The intention of the Consecration is MOST important.Actually, it all starts at the beginning of the Celebration of the Mass if the priest is going to stay in Communion with The Order of the Mass as it should be celebrated as Rome has instructed. If the improper intentions (and proper consecration readings) are not there, It would not, to me, feel like a valid Mass or Consecration. A Non-Neo Priest can tell you if this violates any part of the Eucharistic Celebration or invalidates the Mass altogether. Great point!

  19. A white smoke is only used during conclave to elect a sucsessor to the petrine papacy . The only time when there will be a new archbishop is when the Vatican says so.
