Here's today's PDN:

Father Cristobal has not responded to call for return to Guam

After former altar boys tearfully went public with allegations, a law was passed to open doors for lawsuits against the church, clergy and others.

The Archdiocese of Agana has not heard from Father Adrian Cristobal to determine whether Cristobal will return to Guam by Friday, as Archbishop Michael Jude Byrnes ordered.

Cristobal faces three accusations of sexually abusing minors. As part of the investigation and strengthened policies on the protection of children, Cristobal was ordered to return to Guam or sanctions will be imposed on him, according to the church.

Archbishop Byrnes has full intentions of following through with the sanctions in such case," according to Tony Diaz, the archdiocese's director of communication.

Cristobal, the archdiocese's chancellor when Anthony S. Apuron served as archbishop, has hired a civil lawyer, Diaz said.

Believed to be in vicinity of New York

The sanctions would be separate from the precautionary measures imposed on Cristobal, such as temporarily banning the priest from celebrating Mass publicly or hearing confession while investigations are ongoing.

Cristobal is believed to be in the vicinity of New York, after leaving the Diocese of Phoenix in Arizona in April.

The archdiocese has repeatedly communicated to Cristobal, via e-mail, that he is to return to Guam immediately. Church investigation into the three allegations against Cristobal has begun.

Byrnes extends prayers on behalf of the archdiocese to those who have come forward recently and in the past with allegations of clergy abuse.

There have been more than 170 Guam clergy sex abuse lawsuits filed in local and federal courts since 2016 against the Archdiocese of Agana, priests, other clergy and others associated with the Catholic Church. The parties are pursuing mediation to try to settle the cases out of court.
