I responded to the comment but decided to set it out more clearly here:
Unfortunately this is a growing speculation. What we do know - per the archbishop's letter of 12 November 2024 - is:
1. That the archbishop received a report of "a serious allegation of clergy misconduct of a boundary violation toward an adult female."
2. That the accused was Fr. Antonino Caminiti and that the incident occurred 11 years ago when "Nino" was pastor of the church in Asan.
3. That "the necessary procedures were initiated, the preliminary investigation was conducted and the allegation is now under further investigation as recommended by the Independent Review Board."
4. That the archbishop was "concerned about his (Fr. Nino's) well-being and the need to accompany him during this trying moment as a father would do."
5. That "given temporary precautionary measures," Fr. Nino "will reside with me" (with the archbishop at his residence).
6. That Fr. Nino was awaiting acceptance to a Center for Assisted Intensive Renewal Program for Priests.
And then, pursuant to the archbishop's letter of 16 December 2024, hardly one month after the archbishop's announcement of the allegation against Fr. Nino, the archbishop announces Fr. Nino's death with no information other than to ask for prayers and the schedule for the rosary and funeral.
In short:
1. Fr. Nino was accused by an adult female for what is obviously a violation of a sexual nature.
2. Fr. Nino was functionally placed under house arrest in the archbishop's own house while he awaited acceptance to a reform house.
3. That four weeks later, Fr. Nino is dead, and on the archbishop's watch.
4. That the archbishop has made no mention of the cause of death.
5. That the archbishop's silence on this matter has led to speculation of suicide and even poisoning (murder) as the cause of death.
What we also know, or at least can deduce, is that Fr. Nino's death was sudden and unexpected. If it was a stroke or a heart attack, it would have been so simple for the archbishop to say so. But he has not.
What is so ironic is that the archbishop started out his letter of 16 November 2024 regarding the allegation stating:
"Since my installation as Archbishop of Agaña, I expressed that I will be transparent as your shepherd."
What could be more non-transparent that keeping secret the cause of death of someone functionally under house arrest in the "shepherd's" own house?
Sad to say, but those of us who have been through the "ugly" in this archdiocese, must - when things don't add up - suspect that something else is going on. In other words, the cause of death is being kept secret for a reason - and probably at the order of someone other than the archbishop.
The image in the bottom left of this announcement is a clue.
Thank you Tim , for this simple but necessary analysis. I felt, like many, that the new Archbishop needed a period of familiarization. The dynamic of the different cliques in Guam, are far more complex and vicious than on Saipan. Being the 1st filipino Leader here also comes with a long list of challenges not to be underestimated.
ReplyDeleteDespite these sizeable obstacles facing him Archbishop Ryan chose a path of light hearted joviality, and business as usual attitude, that truly does not convey the seriouness of the issues.
The fact that he left for almost a month to attend the synod of synodality, while we were in dire need of his presence demonstrate a lack of grasp of our realities.
Further, the reports of several sightings of the arch in the company of Fr Harold and other neo priests is not speaking well of the real reason of Fr Nino passing.
Finally, the sudden rapid decline of archbishop Byrnes, while residing at the residence is now coupled with the sudden passing of a priest at the same location.
Archbishop Ryan and Fr Nino were not residing at the bishop’s residence at the Chancery. Archbishop Ryan has stated several times that he is living at a residence somewhere in Tumon.
DeleteJust to clear your comment, there were two different residences.
All justified remarks. Regarding the last remark, I know on a personal level that Archbishop Byrnes had had at least two exorcism undertaken, to rid the residence of Evil and Manifest spirits (his words). Perhaps more is needed.
ReplyDeleteIt's haunted...?! 😱😱😱
DeleteHello anon at 9:57, not haunted that would mean the presence of dead souls unable to leave, but soiled by the presence of evil spirits. Do not forget that the Residence of the Archbishop was the scene of some of his sexual abuses. (Evil sneaks in through our sins)That deeply disturbed Archbishop Byrnes, and it was one of the triggers to appoint a new exorcist for the Archdiocese, who still has one more year of training, before he can officiate as such.
DeleteTo be fair, no one likes to announce anyone's suicide 😢 honestly sounds like a horror plot to me, hauntings, exorcisms, curses, something more sinister, like The Pope's Exorcist movie when at the end they said pray for Guam 😵💫
ReplyDeleteWhich functionally confirms that it was. Otherwise, why else the silence? If it was suicide, then all the more reason for more prayers for his soul. But the archbishop won't say. Or, more likely, he has been ordered NOT to say.
DeleteEternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
ReplyDeleteMary, Queen of the clergy, pray for priests.
It doesn’t surprise me at all that Fr. Caminiti’s death by possible suicide was never disclosed. Usually when an undetermined death is reported to the police, it’s usually reported as a “death investigation” and nothing further is revealed. If the death is the result of a suicide, it never gets reported as such to the media. Guam statistics on suicide deaths are quite high but nothing is ever reported beyond that. Specifics about how suicide occurs is rarely if ever reported in the media and for good reason.
ReplyDeleteBoo hoo, looks like Diana doesn't want her identity exposed, all just for some media from Fr. Caminiti's funeral... (which funnily enough, wasn't even posted on the AOA Facebook page). -_-
