SOME QUESTIONS

So on Feb. 8, 2014, an aviso appears in the Umatuna telling us that Fr. Jason Granado, then-pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Agat, is being sent on a one year mission to the Diocese of Chalan Kano, Saipan.

I know and like Fr. Jason, so this isn't about him. He is just doing what he was ordered to do. However, we have some questions. Feel free to answer them.

Because the aviso states that he is being sent on a "mission" we must ask if he was invited by the bishop of the diocese, or in this case the diocesan administrator since Saipan doesn't have a bishop (which is another story).

We must ask this because in several news stories following the meeting in Rome between the NCW and Pope Francis to send members to the "missions" we were told by Kiko that the NCW missionaries are not sent unless they are invited by the bishop of the diocese to where they are sent.

Is this true in the case of Fr. Jason? Did the diocesan administrator send a request to Archbishop Apuron asking for Fr. Jason or for any priest for that matter?

Because the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa is a diocese separate from the Archdiocese of Agana where Fr. Jason is incardinated, does Fr. Jason have faculties to celebrate the sacraments in the diocese he was sent to?

A priest cannot just show up on Guam and celebrate Mass for the public without the permission of Archbishop Apuron. Did Fr. Jason procure that permission from the diocesan administrator of Chalan Kanoa?

Who is paying Fr. Jason's stipend, room and board, other expenses, health coverage, while he is in Saipan?

The Catholics of Guam probably have no issue with sending priests to our sister diocese in the Northern Marianas, but is he there (probably on our dime) to truly work in the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa and the general Saipanese Catholic population, or is he just there to serve the Neocatechumenal Way?

But the angels are watching and so are we.
Many priests on Saipan, graduated from St Joseph and St Patrick, many are still friends with a lot of our parish priests, past and present, and the former seminarians that chose another path.
Use these relations, you will find out quite fast who does what, where and how.
We too can develop our network.

  3. Okay, I see now on the map... We are in some local politics on beautiful tropical islands with a unique flavor. Ha-ha. Guam and Saipan, two small coral islands in historical unity with different political status. This is what I found and I don't go into details. Still reading. Now local bishop sends Philippine priest from one place another to support neo-catechumenary. I see neo-Catholics are inside neo-Christianity as quoted in Huffpost. This alliance is defined by issues on abortion and gay rights. This is right! But who are neo-catechumenals? Definitely not neo-Christians.

My point is the early church was Jewish in root. This realization was Vatican II all about. Discover your roots to find your true nature, as Milarepa says. I read Kiko builds neo-catechumenary chapel on Guam. Is this the same Kiko as in Rome? Or a nickname? Okay, I am still reading. My point is that the Menorah on the table is okay, but you light only one branch at a time. All branches are lit only on the 9th day. Is this clear enough? I hope this helped...

    1. Fr. Jason has been seen to fly back and forth to Guam. Who is paying for all these expenses? Oh, I forgot. We are, the parishoners of Guam.

    2. Oleg please re-read the post: THE PROBLEM WITH KIKO'S TABERNACLE and Frenchie's comments under this post. Also refer to: THE HEART OF THE THING and the link MISUSE OF JEWISH SYMBOLS. I believe you commented similarly on that blog post.

The Pope in Rome is Francis. The NCW founder is Kiko Arguello. Menorah on the altar is not ok. Hope that clears it for you.

  5. What is wrong with fr.jason flying to Saipan to say mass in any neo home. We can do what we want because we have our own rules. We do not need to ask the bishop or administrator for his permission for father Jason to say mass. It is our island and we will do what we want.

  6. Fr. Jason can stay in our neo homes any time he wants. He can say mass for us any time he wants. He is invited to Saipan by families who will take care of him. So what is your problem with this.

    ReplyDelete
  7. to anonymous@ 11.13. Are you tongue in cheek? Or do you really believe what incongruity you are saying? In order for any priest to say mass in any diocese he must have the prior authorization to do so from the Bishop or in the case of Saipan of the administrator at this time.
Therefore the original question on this post. Who has asked for Fr Jason to be on Saipan?
So no!!! Fr Jason cannot say mass if he is not authorized, and certainly not in a home. This is a Blasphemy!

  8. Could some of you in Guam enlighten me about this ongoing missionary activity there? There seems to be a whole lot of missionaries around. Where are they coming from? I am puzzled as Guam seems to be 90%+ Catholic and Saipan is not much different. Whom do these missionaries target for conversion? The same time I see missionaries are a major contention and reason for embittered turf war in the local Catholic Church that I just cannot comprehend. Is this related to some local politics...?

Sorry my friend, father Jason can indeed stay and visit your homes, but as far as saying Mass this is a very different situation. No he cannot say mass anytime he wants. You cannot, should not have a Mass in a home, except in very specific and unusual situations. This is not the case.
The problem WE have with this, is that like us you have to follow the rules of our Church. By not following the rules, you are "de facto" putting yourself, your soul and the souls of people around you in grave danger.
If you cannot or will not understand this basic points, then the problem is monumental.
Plus WE on Guam, in view of the total mismanagement of monies of the Archdiocese, have the right to demand to know, who is paying for all these planes tickets.

    1. Frenchie, but they can do whatever they want because the rules of the Roman Catholic Church don't apply to them. They have already shown that they don't have to listen to the Magesterium, Pope Francis, or his duly appointed delegate, they only have to listen to kiko and his minions. They feel they are entitled to anything the church "owns"and will continue to take as long as they can get away with it.

  10. "We can do what we want because we have our own rules. We do not need to ask the bishop or administrator for his permission for father Jason to say mass. It is our island and we will do what we want."
Wow! What a statement! So members of the Way are telling us once again that they do not have to submit to authority. They can do what they want, when they want, without permission, because they have their own rules. Obviously, you are doing all of the above, even to the point of disobeying the Pope and NOT following the Magisterium. You are your own church. Why continue to remain under the Catholic umbrella?
Guam is our island - we should be able to do what we want without NEO interference or manipulation or deceit. Guam is our island and we want transparency in our Archdiocese. We want the Archbishop and his advisors to be accountable for every single penny. Are we getting what we want?
The above comment in quotes clearly states how spoiled and immature some members of the Neocatechumenal Way can be. Sad, very sad.

    3. It does not appear to be. Fr. John Wadeson, the one incardinated in the Archdiocese of Agana is from Australia and does not appear to be a member of the S.V.D. order. Fr. John Wadeson clarified who he is a letter to the editor of an Australian paper in 2004 in a response to another priest who took issue with the culturally insensitive actions of the NCW in Australia. You can read it here: http://church-mouse.lanuera.com/neocrits/neocrits1.html Search for the name Wadeson.

Also, speaking of Fr. Wadeson (and as mentioned before I personally know and like the man so this is not about him), he was swiftly incardinated into this diocese whereas another priest, a Filipino priest, who had served Guam for nearly 30 years, and who requested incardination, was denied. That's not Fr. Wadeson's fault, but it does show where the favoritism lies.

    4. It could just be a case of two guys having the same name. The SVD priest mentioned in the LA report is "John H. Wadeson" and he was ordained in 1969. SVDs are in Australia. The Archdiocese LA says that he also worked in Trenton NJ and Portland OR.

Again, it could be the case of two priests with the same name. Worth checking though.

    5. Relative to Fr. Wadeson, I am going to hold off on posting further comments for now. The only questions we have for now is why is he in San Francisco? Who is paying his stipend and living expenses? And is he there at the invitation of the local ordinary if he is celebrating Mass and carrying on other priestly functions? And we only ask this because of the amount of money we are asked to come up with without any accountability from the Chancery.

      Delete
  12. Archbishop Apuron has no authority to send any priest into another diocese .
The local ordinary would need to give his permission to any priest who is offering mass in any church or community of the Saipan diocese.

  13. Brothers of Saipan are you really serious about commenting on this blog saying you don't need to follow the rules? If you want people to like the Way you haven't done a good job by posting your comment here. You really need to speak to your catechists about making things only worse for you.

    4. Maybe you were the one dropped. You sound just like the Bihu from Santa Rita with your improper grammar and "nut" reference. Was this the catechism lesson for the evening: beware of nut huggers? You make me laugh!

Maybe it's the same guy commenting, but you all sound the same with your venomous attacks. Ric E brings up valid points and all you have to dialogue are childish rants. Come back with something substantial like a document or at the very least maybe a reference from the CCC. Oi vey, at least quote one of your statutes or something! Bring intelligent dialogue to the table... or not since we all could use a good laugh now and then.

Apparently the NCW variety we have on this blog are not the brains behind the operation. They are the mindless mouths anonymously slapping anyone down for having a unique thought.

Thank you Ric for your insight most especially since you were a former walker. We appreciate your insight and courage to speak up.

Like I told the Bihu...I'd rather be a nut than a Neo like you.

  17. 12:07- when you (a neo) place "Divinity" as a title or acknowledgment beside a human being (whether that human being is a bishop, cardinal of a pope) you're saying a lot about the neos ignorance of the Catholic Faith. God and the Holy Spirit and Jesus in the Trinity are the only ones we can or should honor and worship because of Their Divinity!

If you regard the archbishop as having such "divinity" abilities how do you regard kiko? Is kiko, then your God?

NO I do NOT understand that you can be so blind and so deaf. The Archbishop does Not have the prerogative to send a Priest from Guam to Saipan without the assent of its bishop, or as the case is now, its temporary administrator.
Plus what mission? Saipan has been Catholic as long as Guam, and it has its own priests. How arrogant of the "way" to declare it a mission territory!
You are saying, that either the Archbishop is NOT following the rules (thanks for the info) or that there is an authorization from the temporary administrator.
What the question has been and continue to be is: "Who gave the go ahead for father Jason to go on Saipan?"
Why do WE have to pay for these expenses which would clearly fall under The Neos, since you tell us they sent him there?
But that leads into another huge question: if that would be the case, how do you justify these expenses if you do not have a tax status?
Do You Understand? Or is the bone of your skull so thick that the space for your brain is the size of a pea?
You are either very narrow minded or very hypocritical...... I will go a little bit of both.

  29. As Catholics, we knew that cardinal is higher than Archbishop, higher than a Bishop, higher than a priest ,higher tha a Deacon. The bottom line is the Archbishop has the right to asign Priests and Bishops as needed . Priests can celebrate Mass anywhere, anytime if they are granted the Faculty . True ? Sometimes out of the goodness in his heart, Priests do accept invitations/requests to celebrate mass during the VACATIONS ! It is all good after all, their stipend is so low . I t is hard to imagine how they manage with limited resources .
