CORRECTIONS TO TODAY'S NEWS STORIES

Today's PDN story reads:

Archbishop Anthony Apuron responded this weekend to an allegation he molested a former co-seminarian and relative.

This is incorrect. The person alleged to have been molested by the Archbishop is not a "former co-seminarian" or a "relative" of the Archbishop, he is a former co-seminarian and relative of John Toves, the person who made the allegation.

Also, other media have reported that John Toves had knowledge of the molestation of his cousin when he (John Toves) was an altar boy. This is incorrect, John Toves' knowledge of the molestation is from when he was in the minor seminary at Tai (FD).

  1. Who was the rector of the minor seminary in Tai during that time (1980-83)?

  2. I want to say it was Fr. Mel but he passed away in 87-88 as the rector. ~Fortes in Fide

  3. Today's response in the PDN reads more like a CEO's and less of an Archbishop's. If I was Apuron's handler (it's obvious the same person who wrote Fr. Wadeson's lawsuit threat authored this one as well) I would have written a more christian and more charitable response. Instead, the true nature of their dark intentions was revealed.

    1. I am told the rector was Fr. Tony Perez &/or Fr. Mel Dadios. Both are deceased. Some believe Fr. Tony knew "a lot".

    2. Correct Tim. The untimely death of Fr Tony Perez, a priest of great moral fiber and an outstanding teacher (in all the sense of the word) is very sad. (he was a personal mentor to some of the best priests on Guam) He, more than anybody on the island could have prevented the awful events we are going through.
It is worthy to note that soon after his death, Anthony Apuron started his accelerated descent into the depth of the abyss.

  4. Father Tony did know a lot and that is why he was permitted such freedom to work and study off-island.

  5. Correct . Fr. Tony Perez good priest. But after leaving Guam and working with the sulpicians he continued his contacts with the pacific. He also shared much data with pacific priests so the information is widely known among clergy.

  6. You are right anon @ 8.09, Fr Tony always kept in touch with his native land, with his former students, both priests and former seminarians. While his passion was teaching like most Sulpicians, he also studied extensively, including at the Catholic University in Louvain, Belgium, where he got his doctorate in Theology. My mother even went to the defense of his thesis, and was very moved by his passion for his church.
While there, he visited the Sulpician mother House in Paris, Lisieux to retrace the live of Ste Theresa, and of course Lourdes, from which he came back rejuvenated and smiling.
Fr Tony was probably one of the brightest Chamorro of his generation, a breathe of fresh air, a dedicated priest, a man of integrity and a true Catholic in every aspect of his daily life.
Apuron was fearful and jealous of his knowledge, and of his intelligence. The two little minions at the Chancery knew better that to challenge such a person.
His loss is a great missed opportunity for Guam, for a local son who could have avoided us this way of the cross we must walk reluctantly.
May God bless his soul, and may he look upon us from on high to help us protect our island.

  7. Thank you Frenchie. Not worked out who you are but there is no reason for me to know. All that matters is I see you know much. Fr.Tony Perez I talked to many times when he lived in Europe. Tony Perez informed the late Fr.Roger Tenorio of all that happened in archdiocese of Agana. Fr. Roger unfortunately revealed much information to Others which has created a number of people in the know. Sure you understand.

  8. Yes, Frenchie I met with him in Belgium. You do clearly know details. Correct he was the only Chamorro who maintained academic skills. . We both had interest in the work of the Sulpician fathers though for different reasons.
