With over 200 sexual abuses lawsuits going through the court system and the subsequent chapter 11 reorganization of the finances of Archdiocese, one could conclude that officials at the
Chancery would be doing their out most to follow up on any allegations of sexual abuse.
After the dismal administration of Apuron and his minions, and the replacement of Deacon Martinez by Deacon Charos, aka Deacon for sure for sure, following his catastrophic cover up against
Apuron by the late John Toves; the faithful were elated by the new
approach of our then newly appointed Archbishop: Michal Jude Byrnes.
Archbishop Byrnes while facing a mountain of issues, left by his inept and corrupted predecessor,
seemed to take the bull by the horns.
He did put in place a set of procedures for the Church to identify and recognize victims.
He initiated a third way for victims that did not want to sue.
He put in place a reporting system for any abuse that may arise in the future.
He also made it mandatory for all personnel inside the Church and in the Schools affiliated with the Church to go through a sensitivity training, as well as a background check.
Actually one can easily follow this comprehensive program on the Archdiocese website.
So far Archbishop Byrnes has talked the talk, and started addressing a long litany of soar issues.
Unfortunately for the Catholic Church of Guam, policies are only as good as the people that are supposed to watch that they are functioning properly.
As we have advocated here repeatedly , the devil is always in the details.
We have also demonstrated on more occasions than necessary that Archbishop Byrnes is surrounded by people that do not have his interest or the interest of the Church at large in mind.
We have shown that many of the actors at the Chancery are holdovers of the previous administration, who are more interested in protecting their little dominions, and to continue their little fiefdoms rather than truly following the instructions and desires of the Archbishop and/or the faithful.
We have seen how the NCW priests totally ignore their instructions, and the liturgy at large, as well as the GRIM. In this the lack of reporting by Deacon Martinez , the vicar to the NCW, has been very disappointing to say the least.
The new Chancellor, Fr Ron Richards, who is also the special assistant to Archbishop Byrnes, while coming with an excellent academic background, has so far revealed himself to be flippant and dismissive of local actors, bringing with him what some of the usual suspects at the UOG would qualify as a "colonialist attitude".
The new Finance officer Josephine Villanueva, is going around the Chancery and the Cathedral acting as the de facto boss, making unilateral decisions and making enemies all around the island as she goes unfettered by any form of control.
Most of all she seems to want to run the Archdiocese like a business rather than an organization dedicated to saving souls and preaching the word of God.
Reality check:
Unless you are a Neo, or a protestant, a Church is not a business.
So? why all the complaining at this time?
Simply because after all the heartaches of the past few years, it would seem logical that the Chancery would want to stay in front of the problems instead of chasing after them.
HERE COMES GADFLY EXTRAORDINAIRE, FORMER CALVO ADMINISTRATION WHISTLE BLOWER, BLOGGER AND INTERNET STAR
FAMOUS FOR HIS LIVE BLOGS, AND CHASING A STORY LIKE A PITBULL, AS WELL AS HIS POTTY MOUTH: I CALLED
THE FOUNDER OF KANDIT NEWS, TROY TORRES.
I seriously doubt that many followers of Kandit News check in on the Junglewatch, but since we are on Guam, and that the majority of its population is still Catholic, it is very relevant .
The Mt Carmel "Catholic" School rape case.
For the last few days, Troy Torres has been chasing the story of a 12 year old female Student who was repeatedly raped by a custodian of the Mt Carmel School.
Kandit News has chased the story with the School, the Chancery, the GPD, Child services, as well as the Governor's office.
At the Chancery, they were referred to Tony Diaz the press secretary, who to say the least did a terrible job at answering questions and trying to sound convincing.
Instead he was evasive and his statements were contradicted by the GPD and the Governor's office.
Mt Carmel was as evasive and not convincing, hiding behind red tape and vague statements.
WHERE ARE THE CHANCELLOR, THE VICAR GENERAL, THE SUPER INTENDENT OF CATHOLIC SCHOOLS?
The Archdiocese of Agatna, cannot afford to be perceived as being in the midst of a new coverup!!!!
Put your pants on, and face the music
ARCHBISHOP BYRNES, YOU HAVE TALKED THE TALK,

ReplyDeleteHow is father Richards flippant towards locals? Please can you give some examples? thank you
ReplyDeleteDear Anna,
Deleteit starts quite innocently. You can in fact talk to someone and with someone rather than down to someone. Even as a leader, in fact specially when you are a leader.
Then, there are several of the public forum which he participated in. During these Forum, and unlike the Archbishop he has a tendency to lecture people as if they were small children to whom you need to explain in simple details things that they obviously are not smart enough to understand. (perception of that sort are very difficult to overcome)
There are also several interactions with local clergy that you could describe as less than diplomatic.
Then you have his interactions with the laity, which have the warmth of a prison door.
Even if,it is not spoken so overtly, there is also the fact that you are left with the impression that as a friend of the Archbishop, he is protected.
Finally there are his multiple reminders that he would rather be in Michigan than on this rock.(Guam)
Should this answer your question? Or do I need to go in further details that could be very unpleasant for all parties?
No, but I’m always praying for all clergy. I hope that the Holy Spirit will enlighten Father Richards and strengthen Archbishop Byrnes to do what is best for our Lord’s Church in Guam.
DeleteNo need. Thank you.
Delete"No need".... sounds like someone actually already knows how "flippant" and arrogant this man is... and now wants to avoid you making it clear to the rest of us.
DeleteLol Guamblog:
DeleteA) no need to beat a dead horse
B) Anna has her own narrow agenda, which is not for me to develop
C) Junglewatch needs to stay focused
As you know the wheels of justice work ever so slowly.
Sometimes it is a painful process, but we keep our nose down.
The truth will always prevail, even if at times the delay can get very painful.
LOL, the courageous anonymous slanderer from Barrigada is back, with his bad grammar, and his vile allegations.
ReplyDeleteI shall let Tim answer you on these.
From what we can all read from your pathetic interventions, we can all see who the "idiot" is....You win! No contest.
As far as the "New Archbishop":
A) He is the only true Archbishop of Agatna, even if that pisses you off.
B) He has done a good job so far in cleaning up the mess from your Guru
C) I am encouraging him not to let the same people who brought Apuron to his demise, influence his decisions, and take the Bull by the Horns.
D) I confirm that the faithful (not the heretics) shall back him up, if and when he decides to demand accountability.
It is clear, and simple. Only a perverted mind like yours would see and hear otherwise.
You pussie you always sticking up for Tim
ReplyDeleteMay be Frenchie knows something your hate blinds you to
DeleteAh. The Neos do have such a wholesome way with words...Very Christian of you!
DeleteStill waiting for you.
