EVEN GOVERNOR CALVO IS WAITING FOR AN ANSWER

Come on, Adrian. Get back to him!
And to think that the Archbishop has no problem doing the neo-eucharists in any old place, but outlaws the Mass at a cemetery chapel.

As a veteran myself, I find this very sad. But then again, being nonveterans, Archbishop Apuron, Fr. Adrian, and Msgr. David C Quitugua don't care. THEY JUST DON'T CARE!

  2. We can look at this with LOVE and not LAW, correct?

  3. Shame on Apuron! Denying the Veterans, Servicemen and Servicewomen and families! How is it OK to have NCW "mass" at hotels, homes, off-island, at airports. Wait???? hold the presses??? maybe cause the NCW "celebration" isn't a "real mass".

The defenders of the freedom of religion are denied. How very sad.

On top of this in the late 90's or early 2000's His Excellency Apuron has stopped the masses at the Kapiya's, Family Chapels, Santa Cruz, Fatima, etc. because the blessed sacrament wasn't present. To me and my family this was the start of the decline of people trusting Apuron leadership and his sincerity and commitment to Guam's traditions and faith.

    1. It really is amazing to think about. At the same time he was prohibiting Masses due to the Blessed Sacrament not being present, he was instituting the NCW which specifically DOES NOT celebrate its eucharists in places where the Blessed Sacrament is present: homes, classrooms, or anywhere because they "do not need an altar" as Kiko says in Vol 1 of his Catechism.

    2. I think maybe we need a refresher on what was going on in Guam that led up to the timeframe mentioned by Anonymous (August 6, 2014 at 4:13 PM) when Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron used the absence of the Blessed Sacrament as his reason for stopping Masses at the Kapiya's and, as Tim Rohr pointed out, was the about the same time when the NCW was being imposed on this island.

As Father Matthew Blockley (August 6, 2014 at 2:43 PM) commented in the post "MSGR. JAMES ANSWERS ARCHBISHOP APURON":

"James was not fired for financial reasons. THERE IS SOMETHING MUCH DEEPER GOING ON HERE AND YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO 1990 TO UNDERSTAND. Guam you have all become pawns of an internal battle going on within the Catholic Church on Guam. only the Vatican can deal with this. Suggest you TAKE A HISTORY LESSON. look at Guam in 1990 the internal church structure, look at what Apuron was doing, inviting everyone into Guam from all over the world. Then he found the neo and invited them. Both groups were to gain from each other. Don't get stuck in the finances the finances are the result of the real problem of archbishop Apuron. The problem is Apuron." (my emphases)

  4. Gov. Calvo is making a reasonable request in asking Archbishop Apuron that deceased veterans be allowed to have their funeral Mass at the Veterans Cemetery Chapel. I don't think the arch will decide in favor of Guam's deceased Catholic veterans. He appears to have taken on an adversarial role where non-Neo Catholics are concerned.

  6. It's because the Veteran's Chapel doesn't pay anything to him or the Archdiocese. Umbre- give him an envelope or Parish Assessment.

  7. And they preach about coming together for the good of the community, helping those less fortunate then us. The three + one only do it for the community if its to help themselves. What a joke...no matter where the ppl are laid to rest if they are catholics they should be given the respect of having a right celebration to return home...instead its like saying thanks for your help you may go now, and tossing the matter to the side and moving on to the next customer.

    The Hon Governor Calvo.

I sure agree with you Governor on this issue. However, Archbishop Apuron and his minions have no concern for you or your Government. They are only concerned with the N. Way. If you were N.way the request would have been met. but as you and your family are not following N.Way you may not even get a response. And even if you did receive a response I doubt they will honor your request.

I suggest most strongly that your Government stands on principle and continues to support veterans who have given their life in service of the nation. At the same time it is important now that all Government officials contact the Apostolic Delegate with any concerns relating to Archbishop Apuron .

    Fr. Matthew Blockley.

    Dear Gov. Calvo -
There is an easy solution for veterans to have their funeral masses at the veterans cemetery. As long as they join the Neo now they can be assured of a burial wherever they choose because our dear Tony will do anything for his way.
Sorry to be so blunt, but we need to start speaking the truth, because those guys on the hill have forgotten how to be truthful.
Other alternative, Gov Calvo - wait until Tony steps down and a reasonable priest is appointed to replace him. The only problem with that idea is that Tony is quickly killing the careers of all reasonable priests.
    Que sera!

I HAVE BURIED SOME OF MY BROTHERS IN ARMS THERE AND FOR ONE MAN TO MAKE SUCH AN EGREGIOUS DECISION IS JUST APUWRONG!

9.41pm. Shocking Apuron does not even respect those who served the Nation. I suggest that all veterans contact immediately the Apostolic Delegate Arcbishop Martin Krebs and bring their concerns Regarding Archbishop Apuron to him.

  13. This is true. It used to be permitted and then they gave directives that it can't be done anymore outside the churches. And we all complied with that. Up to now. And of course we found out that Neo were having it outside the church and are still having it outside the church. We didn't say anything. We continued to follow them. But how could you disallow this to our veterans knowing that there you have permitted one group to do it. We could still have understood if it was just permitted to the Neo and the veterans. We could still live with that. For four years and counting, you still have deprived the veterans this privilege. What's wrong with you guys? Doesn't your conscience bother you at all! Someone called you hypocrites. I am sorry, but you are simply that. If you have a conscience, you will allow them as early as tomorrow. Don't worry, we, the other organizations, will not ask for the same. Just allow the veterans now!

  14. What? The Archbishop won't even listen to the Governor? WOW, why am I not surprised! Gov. Calvo, please send a follow up letter and tell him you will join the NEO's or at least attend one of their get-togethers at the former Catholic Museum. Maybe he will give you what you want. Don't give up on the Veterans Gov! We voted for you and its an election year remember

  15. These Veterans fight for all our freedom, and even you Archbishop Apruon. And now they can not even have a decent Catholic ceremony? At least respond to the Governor of Guam? Do your trusted advisors have that much control? More reason to maybe step down and take a sabbatical. Give the People's Priest the change to repair your mess and bring back the Hafa Adai Spirit to our Church. He and Father Mike C. are our last hope for true Unity.

  16. Governor Calvo: Write your letter to NZ and Rome! This will never stop, how much more proof does everyone need? This is a scandal! Someone should really try and make a movie about this! Muna Brothers???

  17. As a Veterans and a member of the Way (Asan Nino Perdido Holy Family Community) I am deeply troubled and saddened by this. My brothers and sisters being denied their last wish and or over money! It sickens me to my core. This letter from Gov. Calvo deserves a proper response and our Archbishop should allow for funeral rites there. It is only right! Our brothers and sisters put their lives on the line and answered the call and to be told no for over almost 20 years because of local Catholic policy is appalling.

    1. Well said 12:57 and very brave of you to divert from the standard Neo response and actually recognize this atrocity against Catholic Veterans. Though you are anonymous like me, I hope your catechist and responsibles will not sniff you out and rebuff you for your statements.
