THE MINISTRY OF THE BATHROOM

They really hate Msgr. James:

Iam sure that Monsignor James is a leader but you all need to know who he really is and the followers are the same. Tim you got to be joking about all that comments and tell the truth,I just can't believe all this talk,talk,......Let's all pray for one another

James you need tell the Catholics that it was your idea about the tourists/visitors sign and the collection box. Therese told me that you are the person to look for if I wanted to make a comment.

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "NOTICE TO MSGR. DAVID C. QUITUGUA, RECTOR, AGANA C...":

Iam sorry but it was Monsignor James idea to charge the visitors/tourists.Tim I think we need to ask James why he had that sign and box inside the church.I think that the Cathedral was running out of money,so James where is the money

So let me take care of all of these before this poor dingbat soils himself.

The idea for the collection box for the visitors at the Cathedral originated with me. When I became affiliated with the Gift Shop in 2009, I became aware of the problem of "bathrooms". The Plaza de Espana and the Cathedral was a major tourist stop and sometimes there would be several buses of tourists frequenting these locations.

There are no bathrooms at the Plaza so naturally tourists would think there would be a bathroom in the Gift Shop. There wasn't. The only bathrooms were in the garage area and it wasn't easy to explain how to find them when you don't speak Japanese or having to do it 10 to 20 times a day, which is about how often we got asked.

Sometimes if more than one employee was present at the Gift Shop, one of them would guide the tourists to the bathrooms, unlock them, wait for the tourist to finish, and then guide them back to the gift shop. But usually there was only one employee at the Gift Shop and they had to make a choice between locking up the Gift Shop and taking the visitors to the bathroom or just saying "no" when we were asked if there was a bathroom.

In addition there was also the issue of maintaining the bathrooms more than the usual once a day maintenance if they were to be used by busloads of tourists.

I really felt that it was the duty of GVB to provide public restrooms for tourists at a major tourist stop such as the Plaza de Espana, but there were none, and I and the other employees often just had to say "no bathroom" when we were asked. Even entertaining the question became a burden when asked 10 to 20 times per day while we attended to the many other duties of running the Gift Shop.

However, I know how important having access to a restroom is when you're on a bus tour, so I proposed "the ministry of the bathroom". It worked like this:

  • A flyer was made in Japanese with a map to the bathroom.
  • A key would be provided.
  • A dollar would be charged to cover maintenance.
  • Some form of ID would be left at the Gift Shop counter.
  • The ID would be returned when the key was returned.
  • The maintenance person would be made aware of the use of the bathroom and would continually check it to make sure there were always enough paper supplies and that the bathrooms would be clean throughout the day.

Obviously all this took time. The cashier at the store often had to interrupt a sale in order to process the request for the key, a request which could occur several times with the sudden presence of 30 to 40 tourists. And the maintenance and the paper supplies would require the maintenance person to service the restrooms several times a day.

We tried this for awhile but it really did become a burden. At the same time there was a need to police the tourists inside the cathedral. Tourists would often go up on the sanctuary to have their pictures taken. Security cameras inside the Cathedral would alert which ever staff was on duty and one of the staff would have to stop doing what they were doing to go and ask the tourists to stay off the sanctuary. (The tour guides were supposed to do this but usually they did not.)

To fund the extra costs of running a public restroom for several busloads of tourists on a daily basis and to assist with the costs of constantly monitoring the activities of the tourists in the cathedral, it was decided that it would be easier to set up a donation box at the entrance of the Cathedral rather than task the Gift Shop employees with having to charge $1.00 every time they were asked about a bathroom.

So a donation box was set up at the entrance but the donations were VOLUNTARY. Under Msgr. David, the policy was changed to make the "donations" MANDATORY.

So there's your story, you poor thing. Now, run along and find something else to obsess about.

As a former CBGS employee, this is all true what Tim has mentioned. The donation box was ONLY voluntary and it cover the maintenance and supplies for the restrooms.

    1. As for the tourist donation box collection, the money collected is deposited into the bank account at Bank of Guam and in the ledger its label tourist donation box. It is was posted on the Sunday bulletin separated from the regular Sunday masses collections. It was also at the recommendation of the Tourist guides, its the same way its done in Japan, Korea and Honkkong when tourist goes to their temples. Yes, Lester and Tim are correct its voluntary for those who just wants to take pictures, for those who wants to come in and pray, they don't put anything in the box. So many times, it not even a US currency that is drop in the box, its the tourist currency from their homeland. Therese don't know what she's talking about, she always complained that the church and restrooms are dirty because tourist comes in with muddy shoes and abuse the restrooms. Maybe she got another pay raise for bad mouthing Msgr. James. We always knew that she has a twisted tongue! The CB is much dirty now than then Msgr. James was there, cause he make sure that she's not in the storeroom sleeping or on personal phone calls.

  2. hahaha! nice try barking up the wrong tree, anonymous posters.

clean and available restrooms, at least during Mass times, are certainly things i'd give extra $$ for in the second collections. nowadays i'm reluctant to give any money to guam parishes because we don't know where it really goes. if we can put money in an account specifically for the priests and the parish, which are untouchable by the archbishop and his crew, that would be great.

  3. Off topic...are all the entities who were involved in the recent Vatican visit supposed to "stand down" while they deliberate in Rome??? Just wondering if anyone knows.

Anonymous (February 1, 2015 at 10:27 AM), if all entities involved were supposed to "stand down," per your query, it is clear that Msgr. David C. Quitugua and whoever was responsible for last week's U Matuna Si Yu'os INSERT which was printed on AAA's letterhead are not being "obedient." Of course, "The Dianas" will not call Msgr. David C. Quitugua out for being "disobedient" the way they like to do with Fr. Paul Gofigan and/or Msgr. James Benavente.

To my recollection, Tim Rohr was asked "to help," which he agreed to do by not calling AAA a liar. As far as I can see Tim has done as promised — while he continues to expose the lies, he has not called AAA a liar.

  4. Typical for these people in their efforts to discredit Msgr James, they seem to focus on the miniscule issues with asking donation for the use of CB restrooms. Why are they not focusing on the 40Mil+ in the Acion Property that AAA gave away to the NCW heirchy in NJ?

    1. Why are they focusing on the $1 donation for the upkeep of the bathroom in the CB (for the use/convenience of tourists), instead of the $40M that AAA gave away to the NCW? Simple!! Because they are the same hypocrites Christ was referring to in Mt 7:3-5: "Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye... you hypocrites...!" Perhaps this was not taught at the catecheses. We never hear of it at the times of the testimonies of the sanctimonious lives they live! There never was a splinter in the first place, so they created one, and conveniently forgot about the wooden beam! HYPOCRITES, HYPOCRITES, HYPOCRITES!! But don't worry! When (not if) we get our $40M property back, we'll consider returning the $1 donation of tourists back to the colllection box that you are so obsessed about. HYPOCRITES!!

    1. anon 12:09, I agree with you that they are trying everything to discredit Msgr James on the donation box. My question to the new administration of CB, what are they doing with the Tourist donation box collections now? If they don't agree with what Msgr. James on the Tourist donation box, so why are they continuing placing the box in the church, take out for goodness, but stop trying to find dirt to make Msgr James look like a crook.

  6. Yes. Therese certainly got a pay raise! Not that she wasn't well compensated under the previous administration. Now she's not just paid more, she does less. .. laughing and dining with the new admin with her daughter's mali, Coreen!

So bad mouthing is easy for her. No sense of tact and kindness. All of the former admin were good to her and her family.

Shame on you, 2-faced Therese! No wonder you stayed at CB, you're just like them...quitugua. coreen and the rest of the new and "un-improved" administration!

  7. Minuscule or not, every penny of donation is a gift and should be properly accounted. Monsignor James did this and even had it published in the weekly bulletin. That's transparency which we do not get from the Chancery.

As I was not present during the visit, I am not bound to any request. So, I intend to create mayhem for my friends on the hill, most especially HIs Eminence! Again, I am not afraid if this blows up in my face, nor if he sues me for every penny I have. He is a degenerate, a grave embarrassment for the island, and a most malevolent archbishop!

I will proceed unceasingly! Fare thee well, Archbishop!

    3. And a "neophyte' is one who has been PERSUADED to join a religious sect then assigned an experienced sect member (the responsible) who guides them thru their membership years. Now doesn't that describe, exactly, the neos here on our island? The persuaded neo is psychologically persuaded depending on the neophyte's emotional state.

    4. Hey Coward at 4:47AM. What are you doing up so early reading my blog? Can't sleep. Going to your day job. For the record, Msgr. James may have had his own reasons for a DONATION box. I only know my side. Lester Gonzales who everyone knows from his time at the store, confirms my story. Bottom line is that under Msgr. James donations were voluntary and he published the amount which was donated. You guys? LOL.

Archie deeds himself a 40 million dollar property and you are scratching your crotch over a few bucks in a donation box. LOL. But thanks for reading. Looks like JungleWatch is the first thin you check in the morning. I love the fact that you're hooked. Laughing all the way to the bank, jerk.

Can YOU say it? See you back real soon fool.

    8. I too may be "addicted" to the Junglewatch! But it's not really being addicted, it's being sure I stay on top of the latest news, warnings, and most especially truths!!! Yes I said "truths" because I don't trust what's out there. I can NOT trust my priest who seems to be a "presbyter" before a true priest, our own Catholic newspaper which is only a mouthpiece of the evil ones on the hill, and even certain media outlets who spend more time trying to stay "balanced" rather than spending the time and resources to DIG DEEPER to get the truth!!!! So for me, reading this blog is one of the first and last things I do in any given day. The other part is awaiting the forewarned typhoon that I know will sweep unto Guam with more devastation than ever imagined. Thank you Tim and John!!!
