GRATITUDE FOR THE "HERALD OF PIUS?"

Posted by Jose Martinez

Thank you “Diana,” author of the website Neocatechumenal Way - An Insider's View, for reminding us today that your caustic NCW leadership is a major factor in the cause of the division in our Archdiocese.  If Archbishop Hon is truly interested in uniting our Archdiocese and eliminating the division, Fr. Pius should be on his short list.

For now, let’s revisit an important milestone in the awakening of the laity of this Archdiocese:

In March of 2008, three Filipino priests, who were seeking incardination, were each sent letters on Archdiocese letterhead and were “offered” an undue ultimatum:  join the NCW or get out.    When these letters were obtained and revealed to their respective congregations, it ignited a resolve in a number of these priest's parishioners (among others).  They organized against the threats in the letters, against the NCW aggressiveness on Guam and against AB Apuron’s blatant submission to the NCW.   For, what I believe is, the first time in history on Guam, they gathered and protested against the Archdiocese on the steps of the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica!

The revelations of these letters were the beginning of the exposure of the culture of fear and intimidation that is systemic in the leadership and methods of the Neocatechumenal Way that had infiltrated our Archdiocese.

Read an accounting of the three Filipino priests here.

View the letters sent to those three priests that threatened their service to their parishioners here on Guam if they did not comply.

But, back to the ultimate problem with the “Insider’s” blog and the evidence that Pius is an author of the division on Guam . . .

“Diana” is a person or persons who write under a pseudonym and was created specifically to counter JungleWatch.  In fact, if you follow that blog, it is mostly a direct response to these posts. As well, “Diana” is a coward.  “Diana” remains anonymous because the intent of that blog is to generate scandal without repercussion.  (Keep this in mind the next time someone dismisses "Diana" as just another blogger.)  They lack the fortitude to stand by their accusations and assertions by existing as a nameless "insider."

It is important to note that the NCW members on Guam do not make life decisions or engage in important actions without the express permission of their catechist of their respective communities.  Pius, as the lead catechist of all the neo communities on Guam, dictates overall, the lives of his devoted followers; what he says, goes – from major career changes, leaving off island, attending universities or colleges, running for political office and especially engaging in recognizable activity on the internet.

To point, Fr. Pius sanctions the existence and content of “Diana’s” blog.  (it’s why I refer to “Diana” as The Herald of Pius.) He not only sanctions the activities of “Diana,” he almost exclusively links to the site on his own website.  “Diana” would not exist without direct permission from the lead NCW catechist on island.

The problem with this is that Pius as the lead catechist for the NCW, is a person of authority. Even now, he enjoys the (protective) privilege of holding the title of Rector for the Redemptoris Mater Seminary.  He is also a catechist for Archbishop Apuron, hence we can see where past decisions in our Archdiocese originated, as suspect those three letters from 2008.  (Fr Pius is not incardinated in our Archdiocese.)  Since he is responsible for the creation and existence of “Diana,” and added to the fact that he is held to a higher standard of discipline as per his position as the leader of the NCW on Guam and as Rector for the RMS, there is no mistaking that he should be held highly accountable for his endorsement and advocacy for "Diana's" blog.

To be clear, Fr. Pius’ removal will not automatically make things right on our island nor is "Diana's" blog the sole reason for this fissure. However, before Archbishop Hon can begin to heal the bleeding wounds of our Church, he should work on removing that which has pierced and continues to cleave our church through the orchestration of an instrument of division as a person of authority.

  2. Here's a letter about that I wrote in 2014, accompanied by our petition against Fr. Sammut, to the General Superior of the Carmelites:

    P. Saverio Cannistrà O.C.D.
    General Superior
    Casa Generalizia dei Carmelitani Scalzi
    Corso d'Italia, 38
    00198 Roma - ITALIA

    Dear Father General,

I believe that Fr. Pius Sammut O.C.D. has had a largely negative influence on the administration of the Archdiocese of Agana and that his words and actions here as a leader of the Neocatechumenal Way have had a divisive effect on the Church of God in Guam for the better part of two decades.

I ask that you review his words, actions, and influence on Guam to ensure that it is compatible with the mission of the Discalced Carmelites and that you assert your appropriate authority to guaranty that Fr. Sammut's work here on Guam comports to the high ideals of his Carmelite order.

If necessary, please remove him from service in Guam.

    I eventually got a response...

    1. Pius was forced out of Malta. If Malta gave him the boot then he is unfit to be a priest elsewhere. WTF General Superior? We don't want JUNK from another place seeing how we have our own to dispose. Sheesh already!!

  3. Thank you for your post, I had always thought D., as a common standard neocat "walker" who supposedly does the NCW at the same rhythym as anybody in any neocommunity from other places in the world, offers a kind of explanations which any "standard" neowalker could not give without a "helping hand" from an upper in the Way.
The best explanation I found for it is that her catechists might be beyond. Of course, with Kiko and Gennarini's approval.
Your post suggests rational arguments to think she is not "alone". One thing is clear as cristal: she is authorized to have a blog to defend the NCW. This time Kiko would have seen internet is not a son of Devil, as he had always preached.
Conclussion: neocatechumenal double standard still works. To public, they do not defend themselves, they are good boys and girls, they do not use internet out of working and they are too meek. Behind the pulpit, things change. Helping hands from upper move the threads. She is "a" voicer.

  4. Jose well done. Clear, concise and to the point! In Jersey the Italians say,."Bada Bing Bada Boom".

AB Hon pay attention! Connect the dots....I know you're following this blog. (If I'm wrong that says volumes about your "real mission").

  5. The last comment from our "pastoral visit" last night in Mongmong was that AB Hon has not reinstated Pale Paul & Mons. James because there may be some validity to their removal. So Hon is moving "cautiously and with prudence". Anyone care to come to their defense?

    3. Why was preferential treatment given to a priest literally caught with his pants down? He should investigate this. The AG or Chief of police should investigate for possible obstruction of justice. Chief Bordallo never responded to FOIA request on this case.

    4. Does the Vatican have someone similar to an ombudsman who could field questions such as:

      1. What person or entity is handling Apuron's sex abuse case? What is the current status?

      2. Fr. Luis' case? Status?

      3. The removal of Fr. Paul? Status?

      4. The removal of Msgr. James? Status?

It's a waste of time and energy to argue about who has jurisdiction. There should be a way to find out these basic questions.

  7. This was my response to Anon@6:38pm from the KAKA filled Dungbats blog: To ANON@6:38PM; English 101 (Reading Comprehension) Taken from AAA's letter to the two Filipino priests "Unless I see a desire manifest in you in the coming years, I may ask that you to go elsewhere to be incardinated because..." would happen after the priest accepted his invitation to become a presbyter and form future communities. The term go elsewhere comes from the NEO mission to evangelize "go out".

The last paragraph on the letter AAA states "If you do not agree to the above, then you are free to begin to look around for a benevolent bishop to accept you into his arch/diocese."

"Unless I see this desire manifest in you within the coming years..."

Please, note "within the coming years". This was not for immediate action. Who told you they were sent back home immediately? Is it possible that they chose to return?

  9. This was taken from Jungle watch dtd. June 6, 2015 "Sadly Father Paul Was Not The First"

He was Father Manny "Gary" Garrido who initially was the chaplain for Guam Memorial Hospital. He used to say mass in Toto Parish but was stationed in San Vicente Parish and was asked to be the priest for the Neo community in Barrigada. When he refused to become a Neo, AAA sent him THE LETTER and asked him to show up at THE MEETING at the Chancery. When he came back to San Vicente Parish after the meeting, the locks were changed and his belongings were thrown outside in the garage. His car was taken away. He was forced to call around the community for someone to pick him up. Fellow Filipino priests initially sheltered him but were threatened to be ousted by AAA. Members of the Cebuano Filipino community stepped forward and sheltered him, giving him money and food until he could get a flight back to the Philippines during the peak Christmas season. AAA further threatened that Father Gary was not to step foot into any church on Guam. Father Gary would hide in back of churches during Mass so he could fulfill his Sunday obligation. Finally, when Father Gary was able to get back to the archbishop of Cebu to explain his situation, he found out that AAA rushed to the Philippines ahead of him with a concocted story of disobedience and other sins about Father Gary. AAA repeated the same story to everyone on Guam who believed him. The enraged Cebuano Filipino community kept sending Father Gary money until he was able to find a parish to support him. Just ask any Cebuano on Guam about Father Gary.

    1. AB Hon what do say to this story of tyranny?

Apurun's reign of terror sounds similar to the actions of any despot in third world countries. Unfortunately this was the shepherd of our Catholic Church who served the people of Guam,a U.S. Territory freed from the tyranny of Japan during the war! Anyone that protects Apurun is guilty of aiding and abetting a criminal guilty of "malicious and calumnious" deeds, to include pedophilia.
