THE POPE's CALL FOR ACTION...FROM THE BISHOPS?

PDN: Guam Catholics seek action on pope's message
Some Guam Catholics want action instead of words from Pope Francis after his renewed call for bishops to observe zero tolerance for child abuse, now that at least 15 former altar boys have come forward alleging they were sexually abused or raped by priests on Guam. CONTINUED

Rohr: "Thus, the power to hold bishops to account falls to the people, the laity, the parents whose children and grandchildren were ravaged and wounded by by the very men they entrusted them to.”

  1. Vatican II gave the bishops autonomy within their dioceses/fiefdoms and national conferences. Francis can't make them do anything because collegiality exists only among their peers...when it's convenient.

    1. some truth in what you say concerning collegiality.
Autonomy given to bishops led to the crisis. Authority is best kept in Rome and bishops must follow the Holy See. Apuron led Guam with him as a monarch. His monarchy led to a morally bankrupt church if not financial.

    2. Well it's a part of "decentralizing." Something Francis is very keen of.

    3. decentralizing is dangerous. Empowers monarchs like Anthony Apuron in their sic quest for powe fame. sic. Decentralizing led to Anthony Apuron protecting his evil lifestyle. Accountable to no other person.

    4. In practice, Papal authority was decentralized by Vatican II. That was etched in stone by formation of powerful national bishops conferences. Popes were reduced to grinning bureaucrats by them.

  2. We have an archbishop in Guam who is the reason for the letter from Pope Francis. So, how do we exercise "zero tolerance" on Apuron who destroyed the dignity and innocence of young Catholics in his care as pastor of Agat; who protected abusive priests like Wadeson, Camacho, Brouillard, among others? Pope Francis, there is only one way: Remove him from this archdiocese and defrock him. That is justice. And remove Cardinal Filoni from his position as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples; it is obvious he has ulterior motives and probably wants your job. He would not make a good Pope. Please do not resurrect the corruption we went through during the Middle Ages. Remove Filoni also from interfering in the affairs of our Archdiocese of Agana. These are all you need to do and the Catholic Faithful will be there to support our new archbishop.

  3. The representation according to which Pope Francis does not tolerate clerical abuse is fraudulent. Even if Father Mauro Inzoli of the northern Italian town of Cremona was defrocked by Pope Benedict the XVI in 2012 for his clerical sexual abuse of children; and even if Father Inzoli was criminally convicted on 8 charges (and could not be prosecuted on another 15 charges because of statutes of limitations; and even if Father Inzoli paid civil damages to the families of 5 of his victims; Pope Francis reinstated Father Inzoli in 2014.

Pope Francis tolerates perverts.Pope Francis is a public relations stunt. Pope Francis is a two bit low life charity scammer. And Bishop Apuron does not fear anything: because Pope Francis ruling on Father Inzoli is a precedent. In fact, Pope Francis's ruling on Father Inzoli is a clever campaign to attract and recruit perverts in the clerical orders. And they will answer the Pope's totally uncaring call for more abuse of vulnerable persons; worldwide.

    1. Thank you Anon @ 2:49am. Kieran Tapsell wrote a very interesting article more than a year ago in the National Catholic Reporter that shows how words are meaningless unless followed by true action. Pope Francis always talks a good story, but doesn't follow up with any substance. He keeps the critics at bay by well timed rhetoric. Find it at: https://www.ncronline.org/printpdf/111571

Like Tim has always said, DO NOT RELY ON ROME FOR HELP. Our struggle is our struggle, and we must fight or get run over. Stop the money and stop the complacency. If we want a better Church, we must make it so. Fight on Jungle Nation!

  4. All Francis has done with his insanely expensive dog and pony shows is cause discord and confusion. One empty promise after another. He can't be trusted. Neither can his puppet, Byrnes.
