  2. For an island that is 85% Catholic, the statistics would seem to indicate otherwise. An embarrassing legacy of Apurun who was more worried about his neo pizza parties every Sunday, his boys, his personal fortune, and his receding hairline and sagging voice, than the spiritual welfare of the flock.
Thanks Apurun for 30 years of moral depravity and neglect.
This is how you will be remembered.

  3. Divorce tourism?

I suspect the apparent high rate may be due primarily or largely due to “divorce tourism” and transient residents -- including enlisted military personnel.

It would be helpful if some further statistical breakdown of the divorce numbers were available.

    1. According the main divorce lawyer on Guam, Bill Pesch:

"I estimate that only about 200 off-island couples a year pursue these divorces. Considering the number of American expats living in the Asian region, this is a relatively low number." (PDN, Sep 20, 2015).

4.6 divorces per 1000 population, using the 2010 census number of 159,440, equals approx 733 divorces per year. According to Pesch's numbers, "divorce tourism" makes up about 27% of divorces.

However, the real issue, is WHO made Guam a divorce tourism destination? WE DID. We passed the laws and kept them in place in order to promote Guam as a divorce destination. I researched the committee reports for these laws and found that the Church (i.e. Apuron) said NOTHING.
