PLEASE PUBLISH THE REPORT

Dear Archbishop Apuron:

In 2012, an audit of the finances of the Archdiocese of Agana was ordered by Rome at the request of then-Apostolic Delegate to Oceania, Archbishop Balvo. The audit was conducted by the firm Deloitte & Touche. It is our understanding that the audit is now complete. If that is not the case, please apprise us of its current status. If it is complete, please publish the report.

The publication of diocesan financial statements and audit reports is now common practice. As an example, here is the recent financial statement and audit report published by the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Do you see any reason why our archdiocese cannot do the same? If yes, please tell us why. If not, please publish the report.

  1. A nice comprehensive accounting of the Archdiocese of San Francisco (the patron saint of the Franciscan) should be something any Bishop, with nothing to hide and a clear conscience, be inspired with. Time will tell....

Time will tell, but Tony won't. He only seems to be able to write Decrees. Maybe Jungle Watch should ask for a decree!

  2. Dear Archbishop:

If you don't like San Francisco's reporting, then here is the link to Audit Report for the Archdiocese of Boston : http://www.bostoncatholic.org/annualreport.aspx

or if you want links to Audit Reports for Diocese in Philadelphia, Chicago or how about Toronto, Ontario, Canada?

  3. Very simple. The archbishop needs only publish the audit report that archbishop balvo requested. What is difficult about this. The people just want to read it. It is not rocket science.

  4. Anthony, people are waiting for the audit report. Archbishop Balvo ordered you to audit this archdiocese and present this report to the people. You have failed to do as your superior requested. May be you will walk a long painful road to your own removal as archbishop.

    1. We know that the Nuncio ordered the audit. We don't know if he ordered it to be published. That is our job. But we are "asking" first.

    2. Ordered yes. Published no. Report to be sent to Rome for evaluation yes. However, because of the situation the archbishop should be advised by the financial council to make all this information available to those who donate to the archdiocese of Agana.

  5. Archbishop will not publish this audit report for the simple reason it contains financial date he does not wish the people of Guam to be aware of. The substantial funding he has given to the seminary,to the way. Sadly he has also had to pay off Victims of anise on Guam which are identified in the audit under a code name. The figures for the seminary expenses are substantial. Particular areas of ministry which did not require major funding five years ago , now require substantial funding. When ministries evaluated it is observed no money was spent to identify the changes to show for the expenses. The seminary in particular did not provide expense reports, or proper accounting practices.

  6. The parish communities of Guam would like to receive copies of the audit report of the archdiocese. It must be published on the web page. Copies must be published in the media. Hard copies should be sent to all parish councils of the archdiocese.

  7. If the Archbishop is claiming that Mongisnor James has mismanaged funds, then why should the Archbishop be reluctant to release the audit to the public. It would be in his best interest to release the audit because it would prove his case. However, he has yet to release the documents and instead decides to just remove Monsignor James without any proof. What is the Archbishop afraid of?
