PETITION TO ARCHBISHOP APURON TO RESTORE FR. PAUL GOFIGAN TO THE POSITIONS HE HELD

We the undersigned respectfully request that you:
Restore the Rev. Father Paul A. M. Gofigan to the position of Pastor of Santa Barbara Church in Dededo, Guam by 8 September 2014;
Restore the Rev. Father Paul A. M. Gofigan to the position of Director of Vocations and Director of the Diaconate Formation Program by 8 September 2014; and
Restore the Rev Father Paul A. M. Gofigan to the position of Chairman of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission by 8 September 2014.

Let us stop the injustice done to Fr. Paul more than a year ago. If you agree that he acted like the father in the prodigal son story in the Bible when he offered solace to a man who had suffered for his crime. Who for many years after his release was never involved in anything illegal. Who for the years he was working and then volunteering in Santa Barbara, did not do anything wrong. Who was given a police clearance to work at Santa Barbara. Who put back his life in order by marrying his wife in church and brought back his whole family to the Lord. Isn't that a testimony of conversion worthy of any organization here in Guam. If you believe that our Church should not punish Fr Paul for helping bring back this man and his family back to our Lord, then, I humbly ask, that you join us and help us bring Fr. Paul back to Santa Barbara. It is the least that we can do to correct the injustice that was done to him. Join us in this petition. The State has forgiven this man. And yet our Church tells one of our wonderful priests in Guam that he cannot let him work or volunteer. Who is more Christ-like in this situation? The State or the Church? Let us prove to all that our Church welcomes sinners like you and me. Our Lord himself said that He came not for the righteous for the sinners. Come and join us in this petition. May God help us make right this wrong that was done NOT JUST to Fr. Paul, but to this man, his wife and his two children. Let us prove to one and all, our God is a forgiving God. I noticed this petition was available around 1:30 PM Sunday afternoon, I signed it and immediately sent out messages with the link to a bunch of friends. Within minutes the first signatures started being confirmed. Eventually I posted a link on Facebook and ten hours later, by 11:30 PM, there were 100 signatures, thanks to friends who reached out to others as well!

Paul Gofigan on 16 July 2013 and now are willing to sign their names on the petition, even if they must remain Anonymous here on the blog. Let's keep this and the other two petitions going — after you sign, get your family and friends to sign, too.

I enjoyed Msgr. James' first mass at St. Anthony. I saw a lot of faces I normally see at the Cathedral-Basilica. A long-time parishioner said that she has never seen the 11:00 a.m. mass so full. In contrast, I'm told that the 9:30 a.m. televised mass at the Cathedral-Basilica had no more than 50 people attending. I guess it's true that the old shepherd's voice is no longer discernible. I like the one I'm hearing at St. Anthony's.
