STEVE MARTINEZ

was stripped of all the faculties of the order of deacon by Archbishop Apuron as of 5pm, Dec. 19. More later.

  1. Deacon Martinez has served many years at the side of the Archbishop and at the Agana Cathedral. Now, you are stripping him of his faculties as a deacon? I am so sick and tired of all these repercussions that are happening just because we are standing up to our archbishop and the NCW. Something drastic needs to be done soon!

  2. Steve, you have become the next victim because you have refused to toe the line of the Archbishop. Be brave and proud you are now in the company of Monsignor James and Father Gofigan. Be proud, You have opted to stand up for the truth rather than cave to the activities of the Archbishop. Our prayers are with you

Anonymous (December 20, 2014 at 9:36 AM), thank you for this excellent reminder about St. Stephen. Deacon Steve Martinez was stripped of his faculties on 19 December, exactly one week before the Feast of St. Stephen, First Martyr on 26 December!

  5. God Bless Deacon Steve to you and your family. I always admire how you were able to last as long as you did serving at the mass of the Archbishop with everything going on with our church.

  6. Deacon Steve Martinez is one of the nicest men I have ever met. He is a devout Catholic and a loyal servant of the Church on Guam. Archbishop, why are you doing these things to your ministers and priests? Is the Neo-Cathecumunal Way really a higher good for our Church on Guam, or are you trying to convert our Church here to another form of Catholicism that seems to be rejected by the majority of our Faithful because NCW acts in secret; it uses a different liturgy and it has taken over our own seminary? That seminary in Yona is not theirs, Your Execllency. It is ours for our young men of our Archdiocese to learn the way of the Lord in becoming his priests according to the order of Melchizedek as prescribed by the St. John Lateran Institute. Is the Vatican aware of all that you are doing to change the course of our Faith in Guam? If so, then let us know that you have the full approval of our Pope to do what you are doing. I pray, Your Execellency, that you see the mistakes of your ways and seek humility from the Holy Spirit to become the Shepherd of our Archdiocese's Faithful in communion with the Holy Father.

  8. Deacon Steve, I've always had a lot respect and admiration for you on account of i) your excellent homilies, ii) your pro-life efforts, iii) your good and humble nature and iv) your inspiring love of God as evidenced by all the hard work you do to edify the Church. Now, I also thank you for your courage and sacrifice in defense of the Truth and against the usurpation of the Church by a pseudo-Catholic sect and its local leaders.

  11. I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THAT IT IS BETTER TO BE A PROTESTANT THAN A CATHOLIC ON THE ISLAND OF GUAM AND I AM THINKING SERIOUSLY ABOUT LEAVING. I am disgusted with this kind of behavior from a Catholic Leader of almost 30 years. I am disgusted that these things are causing to my faith. This is another scandal. I ask that Deacon Martinez to please speak out now about what he knows having been the Archdiocesan Coordinator for Sexual Abuse Survivors, the one that Deacon Claros is now holding. I bet that Deacon Martinez has met the MOTHER of one of Archbishop's sexual abuse victims. I bet that the Archbishop has been embezzling the people of Guam's money to pay out his victims to keep quiet. I bet that there are more serious issues facing the Archbishop and I bet Deacon Martinez knows everything! I ask that Deacon Martinez please report everything he knows to the Attorney General of Guam, the Department of Justice, and the Guam Police Department. Archbishop Apuron belongs in prison and I hope that we act swiftly before he gets away again with all this scandal!

    1. It is not better to be a protestant, that would entail you leaving the Church that Christ created. There will always be those who infiltrate the Church and may succeed in persuading those like yourself to leave the Church, but do not let them! It is the dark one's intention that you harbor this sentiment!
Remain faithful and trust in God. Trust in Jesus. But for your sake, do not leave the one Church that Jesus entrusted with the sacraments. I pray for you, please keep me in your prayers as well. God bless you and know that the Catholic Church is still your home.

Anon 10:30 - you really do not want me to track your IP address, do you? I am very well connected to Google and colleagues will gladly assist me. Hmm, let me see what I can find on your drives.

Deacon Steve is kind, humble, caring, compassionate, brave, brilliant, and strong in faith with Our God and Our Most Beloved Mother on his side, protecting him!

So you little man/woman, you will need to be vigilant.

    1. Chuck white always writes comments so well I always stop to read what he says. This comment of 11.55am is so true. For a short period, he will have more time for fruitful endeavors, but more importantly will lead to a greater peace and spiritual renewal. When an ordained minister has had his faculties unjustly removed it leads to a personal spiritual renewal. Apuron has performed the ultimate insult to an ordained minister unjustly, but God will take care of it. Chuck thank you.

  14. 11:05. So sorry to hear that your faith is in men. Bad bishops started with Judas. And Jesus picked him, himself. The currency controversy has made my faith and the faith of many others ever stronger. Jesus told us we would find the abomination in the temple. And here it is. Our choice is fight or flight. I choose the former. You?

  15. My support, prayers, admiration for Deacon Martinez. A man of truth and integrity. Healing and renewal of the Archdiocese of Agana is evolving because of individuals like the Deacon. I urge all concerned Catholics of Guam to stand united for truth and justice and stop the oppressive dictator. Deacon Steve will be ok because believe you me when God is on your side no one, not even Apuron, can do anything against you.

All Catholics concerned over the ability of Archbishop Anthony Apuron to continue as spiritual leader of the Archdiocese of Agana Guam should support the concerned Catholics for Guam.

    5. All faithful members of the Church of Guam concerned about the Leadership of Archbishop Anthony Apuron are called to contact the Secretary of State Vatican City . As the people unite and prepare for the Apostolic Visit we pray for the healing of all pain and division of the pacific Church. A church which has long been in crisis and urgently needing a new leadership. The people must now unite and stop the oppression of the dictator.

  17. Anon 11:05. It would not be in Deacon Martinez's character to reveal details he may have learned as the Archdiocesan Coordinator for Sexual Abuse Survivors if the victims and families did not want them revealed and could perhaps harm to victims and families.

What Apuron is doing is awful and needs to be stopped. It is hard to imagine that his actions can be so evil. Let's hope his actions are due to a neurological deficit, and not maliciousness. It is hard to imagine anyone could only desire blind obedience and not respect for his actions.

  18. According to PNC, Fr. Adrian claimed not to know anything about the fate of Deacon Steve and at last night's meet with Mongmong, the Archbishop seemed surprised when I revealed to my fellow parishoners what just happened to our former Deacon and neighbor. Although both their signatures are on the letter that spelled the negative status of Deacon Steve, I have a feeling that they were not in charge in determining when his removal was going to be initiated. It is becoming clear that, even though they are both responsible for what is happening in our Archdiocese, someone else is pulling the strings.

    2. I think AAA is surprise that you know. This is the same reaction he had to the closure of the museum. I don't know anything....He doesn't make a decision without David, Adrian and Pius and his "advisors". The real question is what is AAA getting for allowing others to pull the strings.

It is my understanding that, by virtue of his ordination, Deacon Steve Martinez's status was "transformed" from being a mere layman to that of cleric.

    • Did his ordination to the "permanent" diaconate — obviously according to AAA it wasn't permanent! — provide protection under canon law and require that he be given due process as with ordained priests, like Fr. Paul (whose canonical rights were violated)? OR
    • Is the diaconate only "permanent" according to the desires/whims of the local ordinary, leaving him without recourse?

God bless and protect Deacon Steve Martinez!!

Dear Anonymous, and all others...Jesus never promised a life free from difficulties, trials, and disappointments. What He did promise was that those who remain faithful to Him will be rewarded with eternal life. Do not allow any difficulty to pull you from that goal.

As for me, my faculties may have been suspended, but only I am in control of my spirit. No one can take that away from me, only I can cause its loss. I will not allow anything to weaken my spirit.

We all must insure that the most important gift given to us does not go to waste. Anybody who feels their spirit in danger must turn to God in prayer and He will always help us restore the spirit within.

Anon 11:05AM - do not lose the faith, but be resolved, pray, and be strong. Jesus is counting on you!

I just spoke directly with Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron. (Phone records will prove the conversation.)

    The conversation went as follows:

    (Toves) "Archbishop Apuron?"

    (AAA) "Yes"

(Toves) "This is John Toves from California."

    (AAA) (Silence)

    (Toves) "How are you?"

    (AAA) (mumbled) "Fine."

    (Toves) "You said fine?"

    (AAA) "Fine."

(Toves) "You have not been listening to the media, or the people?"

(AAA) "I have been staying low."

    (Toves) "Why is that?"

    (AAA) (Silence)

(Toves) "Archbishop, I will persist in trying to meet with you. I am thoroughly disappointed that you had been unable to meet with me each time."

(AAA) "I am following the advice of my attorney." "I cannot talk to you." "I have to go." (starting to hang up)

(Toves) "I know about Chalan Pago."

    (AAA) (breathing heavier)

(Toves) "I know about you and Father Tony Cruz, and the altar boys." "I have met with persons directly involved."

(AAA) (still heavier breathing) (hangs up) (beep, beep, beep, beep)

I am sure he will change his number tomorrow, or, just have my number blocked.

BASTA! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! HE MUST STEP DOWN! CRISTOBAL AND QUITUGUA MUST STEP DOWN! THE NEOCATECHUMAL FORCES MUST BE CHASED AWAY!
