BARF!

There is absolutely ZERO reason for local church leaders to get into any public discussion or demonstration about the same-sex issue right now. By the end of June, the Supreme Court will have decided the issue and there is not a thing we can do it about it civilly.

There is no legislation before the people. There is no vote. There is no reason to lobby senators this way or that. The only person who can do anything one way or the other immediately would be Governor Calvo and I'm pretty sure he is not stupid enough to let himself be bullied into doing something that will have no meaning in less than a few weeks.

So why is the local church leadership being so vocal and even planning to march on the legislature? (Which is absolutely stupid since the legislature is not involved in this!)

Make no mistake. This is NOT about upholding Catholic teaching. This is about upholding Apuron. This is about trying to show Rome - at this moment of great crisis - that His Excellency Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, Ofm. Cap. D.D. Metropolitan Archbishop of Agana, Guam is in thoroughly in control and is heroically standing alone against the evils of same-sex marriage.

Barf!

Meanwhile he shoos off Fr. Con E. Lingus to Israel.

  2. Same-sex couples will need public officials to solemnize their marriages, right? Or can couples be married here without a civil or religious ceremony to solemnize the affair? Will any officials opt out? Are any officials required to solemnize marriages?

    1. It looks like the duty to solemnize marriages is obligatory for the judges and the directors of Rev and Tax, DOA, and Public Health.

      19 GCA §3204 and 3205:

      § 3204. Who May Solemnize.

      Marriage may be solemnized by:
      (a) The Governor of Guam or his substitute;
      (b) The judges of the District Court, and Superior Court;
      (c) All ordained clergymen and priests of whatsoever religious
      faith who are recognized as such by the religious body whose faith they represent;
      (d) The Director of Revenue and Taxation or the Director of Administration;
      (e) The Speaker of the Guam Legislature, or his/her designee;
      (f) All village mayors and vice mayors.

      § 3205. Obligatory Upon Judge, the Director of Revenue and Taxation,
      the Director of Administration or Director of Public Health and Social
      Services.

      The duty of solemnizing the marriage ceremony on any day shall be obligatory upon all the judges, the Director of Revenue and Taxation, the Director of Administration or the Director of Public Health and Social Services. The fee shall be Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00).

    1. I think even if he wanted to, your misuse of the term "slander" might cause delays. Your "written statement that could be damaging..." is called libel. Slander is a spoken version of defamation. Lawsuits regarding such topics almost never make it to the courts - they consider it a waste of time. Settle out-of-court for chorizos pak-pak and tabasco - this usually makes the hurt go away.

    2. AAA actually threatened to sue for "defamation", as per the counter to the right, 147 days ago.

  4. March on that legislature and I'll be there with my "don't abuse children" placard. April is child abuse prevention month and that should not be forgotten in light of our Archdiocese's sex abuse policy. Totally pathetic!

  6. I'm just curious where are the people that were rallied to defend the Church and the Archdiocese a few years back when $#!T first hit the fan. I don't see a single layperson (besides you and a few others) coming to defend marriage as they did so publicly years ago. Maybe they abandoned their position? Or maybe they abandoned AAA?

    1. AAA abandoned the majority of Guam's Catholics by joining the NCW. He does not deserve ANY support from us.

  7. Anonymous @April 23: 6:05 p.m. How can you be sued for slander when you're telling the truth!

    1. Ahhh...here again, one must bear the burden of proof. To imply or assume that one is an "imbecile and a pedophile," there would have to be substantiating evidence to ensure that the proper judicial process is executed without fail. For now, this is just the same as claiming "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause."
