Dear readers, don’t freak out about this. I’m getting hysterical email.
“Cardinal Burke was sent to GUAM?!? The Holy Father must really hate him! What about the Knights of Malta? Was he stripped of the Knights of Malta too?!? It’s a conspiracy! AAAARRGH! I’M LEAVING THE CHURCH!” CONTINUED
I agree. I look at it like this. The Pope knows this is a mess and knows drastic action will have to be taken against Apuron. Why would he place a "friend" in that position to have to take the backlash from the NEO when the rightful action is taken? Instead He let's Burke take the heat for what will undoubtedly happen to Apuron. Makes sense to me. Burke is the hammer that will come down on Apuron.
If the victim refused to testify, it's unlikely that Cardinal Burke can nail Apuron for child abuse. Even by twisted Vatican machinations, Burke has no case to prosecute through no fault of his own. Charges for mismanagement of the archdiocese are a separate matter.
