PDN: SNAP SAYS NO TRANSPARENCY NO JUSTICE

Survivors network not confident Vatican probe will lead to justice

The world’s largest network of clergy sex abuse survivors said the Vatican’s ongoing investigation into sexual abuse allegations against Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron will not lead to justice for former altar boys, citing a lack of transparency in the canonical trial process and the absence of punishment for church officials who helped cover up the abuses. 1. Tim are you able to shed light on the following. Father Pius has said at least two Masses in the Archdiocese of Agana in the past week. It remains cloudy as to if he has been granted faculties by Archbishop Byrnes. It is reported Fr.Pius has stated he has faculties from Archbishop Apuron Archbishop of Agana. He does not require any faculties from Arcbishop Byrnes.
    Please can you explain. Thankyou.

    1. Pius must be considered "persona non grata" who has wore out the welcome mat long ago. That welcome mat has been incinerated and dumped long time ago. Why his phantom of a ghost continues to haunt by "inviting to joy" remains a mystery. That Byrnes remains silent about this infraction is an even bigger puzzlement. Hmmm...

  2. Byrnes playing coy so he does not have to confront Pius. Byrnes beholden to Filoni who sent him and been promised something undeniably pleasant. After all, who would want to come to Guam and face Roman Catholics who are passionately and vocally strong in their faith? The question is what carrot has been poised for him to take the posture of seeming innocence and oblivious to the real issues? Delaying tactic until Apuron reaches 75 years old? Or until voices die down? I do not think the people's voices will let up as long as terrible injustices are not meted out with corresponding justice. No way, Jose! Byrnes has to put on the heart of a Lion and the cunning of an Arthur Conan Doyle.

    1. Somehow I feel that "Off-Island Clergy" (U.S. and Europeans) consider that the people of Guam are "Second Class Catholics" and can be ignored, just like most politicians ignore our needs......

    2. Maybe Byrnes has been promised a red hat if he sells out Guam's Catholic Church to the NCW. I don't trust him.

    3. Guam relegatd itself to backwater mission territory because of the stupid clericalists who brown-nosed Apuron for 30 years.

  3. C'mon, Byrnes....background checks for those guys at RMS from all over the world??? That alone is enough to let them go. Background cannot feasibly be done. You know it. Big hole in plan .

  6. In the 80s when all these tales were just gradually unravelling, it was a different time. Islandwide, there was a culture of hiding the offense to avoid family and personal shame. Incest and extramarital affairs were mostly hush-hush to avoid losing face. Victims suffered in silence and shame. Even when we look at these stories in the context of an earlier milieu, wrong is wrong, and non-disclosure does not make it right. Fastforward to the turn of the 21st century, and scandals including clergy sexual abuse of minors and staff became more prevalent public revelations as signs of the times. Society and families were emboldened in recognizing individual rights and justice. Laws were strengthened to protect and defend victims and survivors. This is a development that comes as a welcome change in our society and, by God, we will clean up house to make sure that we hold perpetrators and evil people accountable for their heinous crimes. Nothing less is expected of the Catholic Church and those charged with the ability to mirror the love and justice of God.

  7. SNAP is right. The Vatican continues to prove that nothing can be expected from them but lies, deceit and greed. I haven't put a cent into the Peter's Pence collection for years.
