MARY, UNDOER OF KNOTS

Posted by Tim

Novena's were not part of my Catholic upbringing. Not sure why. They just weren't.

And while I've read and prayed some novenas, at least partially, I never really felt the need to stay with any particular one.

However, this one was different, so I'd like to share it with you in case you are not familiar with it.

I think it was the image of a "knot" that caught my attention.

We are in a time in our local church when things simply cannot be undone. And for many of us, the inability to undo things is also personal.

Perhaps, during our Year of Reparation, a devotion to Mary Undoer of Knots should be encouraged.

I'm on Day 5, myself :)

  2. Thanks for the link. I subscribed to the site.

Novenas were a big part of my Catholic school upbringing, as were many traditional devotions no longer seen. My parish has 4 major novenas per year and they're always very well attended.

  3. Given the present situation, Guam's Faithful might want to consider doing a perpetual novena to St. Jude Thaddeus, patron of impossible and difficult cases. If so desired, devotees can also leave online prayer requests, join in novenas and light virtual candles at no obligation at the US National Shrine of St. Jude in Chicago, Illinois: www.shrineofstjude.org. The Director there is Claretian Fr. Mark Brummel CMF. He sends frequent e-mail newsletters at no cost.

Our church has a heavily used St. Jude Shrine founded during the Great Depression, a daily St. Jude votive Mass and a major St. Jude Novena every year. His infercession has helped us out of some desperate situations. God bless.

    1. Thank you for sharing this. Perhaps the "impossible" thing we should be addressing with St. Jude is the willful ignorance amongst ourselves which has caused our heads to turn the other way while shepherds raped their sheep, and, but for a few, the continued silence in the face of it all.

  4. Tim - If interested, here's the Shrine prayer to St. Jude our church says daily before a First-Class relic of him is venerated after Mass. It's copyright-free if anyone wants to duplicate it.

    Prayer to St. Jude Thaddeus

St. Jude, glorious apostle, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of difficult and desperate cases. Pray for me who am so miserable. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you to bring visible and speedy help where help was almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly-(here make your request)-and that I may praise God with you and all the elect throughout all eternity.

I promise you, O blessed JUDE, to be ever mindful of this great favor. I will honor you as my special and powerful patron and encourage devotion to you.

St. Jude, pray for us and for all who honor and invoke thy aid. Amen.

Isn't "Jude" Bp. Byrnes' first or middle name? This prayer could also be said for him and his success in vanquishing the Neocats.

Anonymous (July 25 at 11:14 AM), thank you for sharing this prayer. I will definitely add it as an intercessory prayer for Archbishop Byrnes.

You're right: "Jude" is the middle name of our Archbishop — Michael Jude Byrnes.
