Barrigada resident Tony Villoria said he links a potential decline in procession participation to an abuse of the people’s trust by church leaders, notably Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron, who led the local archdiocese for more than 30 years before being convicted by a Vatican tribunal.
“I feel the crowd has decreased due to the reports on the priests. It’s gone down tremendously. Our village used to have a large crowd of participants. The Catholic church needs to rebuild itself and regain the trust of the people.”
