PACIFIC DAILY NEWS. MAY 20, 2016. 1:03 AM - PEREDA RESIGNS

Member of church's sexual misconduct board resigns

A member of a board within Guam’s Catholic Church that reviews sexual misconduct complaints wrote an email to the church’s sexual abuse response coordinator Wednesday stating he believes accusations that the archbishop sexually assaulted a minor.

Pereda has worked as a clinical social worker for more than 30 years, he said. He told the Pacific Daily News that in his professional capacity he is able to accurately determine if someone’s account of abuse is credible. In the case of Quintanilla, Pereda said his explanation of the abuse was credible.

Deacon Claros was unavailable for comment as of press time.

  1. If there truly was a response team being activated, shouldn't there, at the very least, be someone from the archdiocese contacting the victim within 24hrs of being informed of an abuse? Are the idiots on the hill too stupid to show compassion for the victim rather than trying to trash him while protecting the dogs on the hill?

Oh yeah, it's a neo thing. They do as they are commanded to. LIE, CHEAT, STEAL. it's driven into those who walk in THE WAY OF STUPIDITY and we all know we can't fix STUPID.

  2. To the children of NEO parents: be not afraid. If you are a victim of abuse, there are people who will help you. Your parents will probably protect their Shephard...they took an oath and are committed to him. He can never make a mistake. I am a parent of a child who was a victim of sexual assault. I regret not being there to protect her. Do not loose hope in our system. My daughter's attacker is now serving time.

  3. Hey Tim, I'm unclear on something here. I understand that Vincent Pereda says he resigned bc he believes the accusation to be credible, but if the review board does not investigate, why resign? All things being equal, everyone on the board (or having a pulse, for that matter) has an opinion on this, so his reason for resigning seems, I don't know, a little disproportionate. Resigning seems excessive if it's just a matter of making sure AAA gets a fair shake. Someone must investigate, then deal with civil authorities, and only then does the Board get involved.

Or is this just churchspeak for "the review board is expected to tow the party line and I won't play ball?" As in be a rubber stamp for what I expect will be a flawed, incomplete, and dreadful investigation that will find nothing to report to civil authorities (or anyone else). I don't want to put words in Pereda's mouth, but that seems more likely--and revealing of the circle-the-wagons approach to everything up on the Hill.

    Your thoughts?

  5. ANON 6:42....you answered your own question. You do not need to put words into his mouth. It is obvious that the gentleman has a conscience.

    1. Ditto to that Raymond. Looks like Perada, does not wish his name to be associated to a coverup. Since we know what the finding of Claros will be, for sure, for sure.

A review board concerning this matter should now be external to the Archdiocese of Agana. I would suggest a review board independent of the accused be immediately implemented. I would suggest members of the Guam senate, psychologists, doctors lawyers, priests, religious sisters of mercy along with Snap Regional Director for the West Coast.
As the accused is a bishop it is important to at least advise Archbishop Krebs the Apostolic Nuncio.
Whatever the present chancery Leadership is completely inept to conduct any investigation.
In the meantime parents needs to keep their children safe until confidence in the Archdiocese has been restored. I certainly would not allow any child left alone on a church property at this time. Safety of children is priority.

  7. Of course,Deacon Claros did not respond as of Press Time cause he was at the Phoenix Center in Mangilao yesterday since 2:30pm up to 5pm. I saw him there. I am sure his cell phone will show recent calls, but of course he won't returned calls unless you are one of his NEO members.

  8. For sure, for sure, the Canonical investigation for Luis Camacho is ongoing because it never started. Now, the Canonical investigation for Tony Apuron will never start because he'll be defendant, judge and jury. Oh Lord, our Catholic Church is so, so messed up. And all because of one man. Tony, if you care for anything other than yourself, resign.

    1. Hi Jerry. Let's be clear. Our church isn't messed up. Apuron is messed up. Our church is standing strong...perhaps for the first time in a very long time. Whether we will continue to stand strong after we get rid of Apuron is still a question. God historically and biblically has punished his people by giving them the leaders they deserved...and even cried out for. Apuron was not a mistake. He was a punishment. We have to ask ourselves why and make sure we don't go down that road again or there will be a "next Apuron."

    2. So Tim St.John Paul II punished us for ordaining Archbishop Apuron? Really?

    3. LOL. You didn't "ordain" Apuron.
