GUAM DAILY POST. SUNDAY. JUNE 19, 2016: A CHURCH IN CRISIS

A Church in Crisis

Announcements following Sunday Mass typically focus on matters important to a healthy, functioning community, but mundane to the outside world - reminders of an upcoming fundraiser, a change of schedule for the weekly men’s meeting, details of a rosary in honor of a parishioner’s mother. But last Sunday night, as the 6 p.m. Mass wrapped up at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Yigo, Rev. Patrick Garcia took the opportunity to lead the congregation in a drill. CONTINUED

  1. Hoping for "the truth to come out" is tantamount to saying "I don't believe the victims." and "patience and dialogue"?? With who? Apuron has hid from dialogue for years and mocked our attempts by sending out clowns like Adrian. Patience and dialogue is what gave us 30 years of hell. Patience and dialogue is why we are here in the first place. What we need is a commitment to truth at all costs. How sad we can't expect our religious leaders to show us how to do that. Pat Garcia had it right .

    1. And I would add, that no one calling for "dialogue" has offered to personally meet with any of the victims and actually "dialogue."

    2. Has the Vatican started their investigation on these sex abuse cases by Apuron? Has anyone been quietly questioned to give accounts of their knowledge of how Apuron conducted himself when he was pastor at Mt. Carmel, Agat? Obviously, from Tim's statement, the victims have not been asked anything yet! So, how is this investigation going to start after more than a month has passed since Roy Quintanilla's account of his experience. . .and about a year since John Toves accused Apuron of molesting his cousin, who told him about Apuron's preying on him for years. Holy Father, please bring closure to this quickly. Archbishop Hon, you have resources available to you as the Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples to call quickly for the investigation of Apuron and all that he has done here in Guam. I hope he is being questioned in Rome by the Swiss Guard or whomever is responsible. Remove his title from Apuron, fire Quitugua and Cristobal and Sammut. Appoint as VG and Chancellor any priest or monsignor who are not affiliated with the NCW, as they have to watch over this group. I suggest also that you close that seminary down so we do not have to fund the upkeep, and send all these seminarians to Boston or wherever, preferrably home where they came from. No more free ride, boys! You do this over the next week or two and the message for unity will resonate throughout the Archdiocese with the speed of sound!

  2. Just got home from my little Catholic Church here in the USofA and just had to log into Jungle Watch so see if Archbishop Hon has made a decision - It is going for almost two weeks plus since Archbishop has been assigned to Guam. What I found was a well written and beautiful article written by Tony Azios stating the latest on what is happening on my Island of Guam. Yes - it is very written and in a language that common people (well - most common people) can understand. All the accusations have to be answered as soon as possible. Either put Apuron on a "real suspension" until a decision is made - no more advertisements from him - which is what I think of anything sent out with his name on it - or come forward in person and either admit or deny the accusations. No respect will ever be given to him if he continues to use his "NEO" supporters to say that he is "Not Guilty" and that the victims are "Liars' and "Actors"! If they are then, we, the True Catholics will deal with it. Vacation time is over, Archbishop Hon, and this time it is not the same as the last time you were on Guam. There are many more Catholics all over the World - and these are not only Chamorro Catholics - tuning in the see what you are going to do, so you need to make a decision one way or the other.

  3. If Hon doesn't do something concrete soon, he may find his name among the protest signs.

  4. C'mon Mr. Wolff, do you really believe that "patience and dialogue" trumps over "Common Sense"? Do you really want the pedophile Apuron for your neighbor? Really? Do you really think your neighbors will be WILLING let him live next door, in your neighborhood knowing that he has abused several boys? And do you think that everyone is going to Church on Sunday to listen to HIM tell you how to be a good Catholic? Absolutely NOT! In fact, EVERYONE will sleep better at night knowing that Apuron is locked up in jail! At least Fr. Pat Garcia has the common sense to acknowledge the truth - that Rome has assigned a new Shepherd; let's get used to saying his name.

  5. This fine piece of journalism will be dismissed by neo adherents as garbage, and not recognize it as an objective recap of the current archdiocesan scandals. Oh well, what can one expect from warped minds controlled by ncw tantric hypnotism. Apuron's continued interference in the affairs of the church is typical of his moronic mind. The more he sends feelers that he is still in control, albeit ill-informed, the more silly he looks. He does not understand the order, "cease and desist" that he unfairly lobbed at Fr Paul Gofigan and Msgr. James, CCOG and other groups that vexed him or attacked his beloved ncw boys.

    1. Trust me, EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING Apuron does, including his most recent letter to the Filipino community, is ordered and orchestrated by THE STINKING MONK. Apuron could care less about the Filipino community. Archbishop Hon needs to take out Pius and fast if he wishes to save his own Vatican career. However, Pius has shielded himself as the rector of a corporation legally protected from Hon.
