Of course Webster is the key player in the story. Like our own, Benét's Webster has a way with words. The clarity of expression, imagery and brevity of his words made his every utterance memorable. So there is an apt comparison between our Webster as we cheer him on in our struggle and the historical figure of Daniel Webster.
The other major figure in Benet's fiction is a man who sold his soul to the devil for material gain. If there is such a character in our struggle the reader can--well...
