GUAM DAILY POST: ON THE VATICAN'S RADAR

On the Vatican's radar

When six of the more than a dozen sexual abuse cases for former local altar boys were moved to the federal District Court of Guam earlier last week, one reason for the transfer of jurisdiction was the lack of local judges who didn’t have a conflict or potential conflict.

But there’s another major significance to the transfer of the six cases to the federal court.

The federal court must take jurisdiction, says David Lujan’s law firm, which is representing the accusers, because this isn’t a Guam issue alone. CONTINUED

    1. The article says, "The local archdiocesan leadership wasn’t immediately available for comment for this story because Archbishop Michael Byrnes, Apuron’s successor, had pressing issues to deal with the last few days." He had the opportunity to tell us right then and there, Tim, but there are "MORE PRESSEING ISSUES!" 16 lawsuits pending, six of them in Federal court and a persistent picket line of his flock in front of his Cathedral Basislica every Sunday and there are more pressing issues! What? an oversupply of holy water or the sacrificial wine turning to vinegar? More pressing issues!

Tim, remember in November when the Archbishop was calling a press conference a couple times a week to announce such important news as that he didn't know where Guam was, that he drove himself to Dededo and that he reported to Filoni.

  2. Question his motives and the message he's trying to convey. Hope we're not being taken for fools...only time will tell.

    1. As I mentioned earlier, Byrnes doesn't want to be in Guam. He doesn't like the justifiably fractious Faithful and he's playing you for fools. The RMS debacle is just a diversionary tactic that will drag on forever.

If Byrnes gave a damn about the suffering abuse victims, he would flush Apuron out of hiding and make him face prosecution. He knows where the pervert is, but he won't say. He's spinelessly following Neocat Filoni's marching orders in protecting a known criminal psychopath at the expense of Justice!

  3. very confusing at this point Tim. Is Byrnes just doing this to send confusing message or is he sincere? In two minds.
If he is sincere than all priests should join and it become Island wide protest. Time is long over due clergy need to stop sunday morning Mass and protest. Bring Island churches to a stand still.

    1. No. We don't stop the Mass.

    2. We don't stop the masses with the picket line--that is not the intention; but we would like the Faithful who go to the 9:30 AM mass not to cross the picket line--via the front entrance or via the side entrances--to show their support to rid our Church of incompetent leadership and others who have abused and tried to fool us; as well as misusing our Church resources. SILENT NO MORE! There are other masses the Faithful could attend at Agana Heights, Sinajana, Mongmong, Toto, Ordot. Support the picketers by attending mass at these other parishes until Archbishop Byrnes and the Vatican removes Apuron as our Archbishop and that includes even in name only; and also to ban all his songs on the KOLG radio 90.9 FM. It makes me sick to my stomach to hear him sing our Chamorro songs of devotion and others. Really, this Archbishop loves himself only. Remember when he met Walter Denton in Washington state at a Guamanian gathering? Instead of apologizing to Walter for what he did to him, which is what Walter was seeking, instead Apuron offered him one of his CD's!! What a narcissist! No wonder why he thinks he has done nothing wrong. A

    3. I was also told that Apuron cried and asked for Walter's forgiveness. Not enough, of course, for a criminal act but more than just offering his CD's.

    4. Perhaps if Apuron had let it go with the tearful apology, we wouldn't be here today. It appears that it was the "gifts" that set Walter off.

  4. Unbridled ego and inflated sense of invincibility have been the downfall of rulers and potentates throughout the history of the world. These, combined with the stupidity of Apuron who listened only to his own cravings and to his fawning followers, contributed to his long fall from grace. Ti mamaigo si Yu'os!
