MARY, THE NEW ARK OF THE COVENANT

Posted by Chuck White

We celebrate the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God throughout the Latin rite today. In honor of Mary, the Θεοτόκος, the “theotokos” or “God bearer”, I’d like to present a short audio clip of Catholic evangelist Steve Ray discussing the idea of Mary as the “new Ark of the Covenant”.

In this clip, Steve provides several astounding parallels between 2 Samuel 6:2-11 and Luke 1:39-44, and shows that the inspired writer of that gospel considered the Ark of the Covenant of the Old Testament to be a “type” or prefiguring of our Blessed Mother.  Read more.

  2. A PLEA TO MARY.
(Say it with your heart every time you recite it): "HOLY MARY, MOTHER OF GOD (Theotokus), PRAY FOR US SINNERS (because that we are indeed), NOW AND (especially) AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH. AMEN.

  3. Also, Our Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and "Mediatrix of all graces" -- as referenced in Second Vatican Council's document: Lumen Gentium.

    To Jesus, through Mary!

  4. Mary is truly the Ark of the Covenant, The OT Ark is made out of acacia wood and covered in gold constructed according to the instructions of God (Ex 25), It contained the golden urn of manna, the tablets of the commandments, and the rod of Aron(Heb 9:4), over where the presence of God dwelled. This ark however is a forshadow, a typology of something greater to come. In the NT fulfillment, Mary in the annunciation by the will of God becomes the Ark of His Covenant, for in her womb is the living bread which came down from heaven(Jn 6:51), not just the law on tablets, but the law giver himself, and the male child that will rule all the nations with an iron rod (Rev 12:5. As catholics, we are taught that the OT shadows are never greater than the NT fulfillment. So what did St. John see in God's temple in heaven? He sees the fulfillment Ark, Mary. (Rev 11:19, 12:1 (RSVCE))

  5. Just to be clear: the title of the Blessed Mother Mary as "co-redemptrix" is not an official Church dogma. At best it is a pious attribution while in some circles even heretical. Iesus Christus, solus nostra Redemptor! Jesus is the only Redeemer. Mary, through the work of the Holy Spirit, willfully accepted her role as Mother of Jesus and Mother of God, but the title of co-redemptrix cannot be properly ascribed to her.

    1. Totally disagree! She, by her "Fiat" became the New Eve! Yes, the dogma has yet to catch up to the mystical realities of Her sacrifice and suffering. The Holy Spirit will reveal this in time.

    2. Bruce, I have to agree with Anonymous 1/3/17 5:07a.m.-- Mary is the Mediatrix and one must never confuse this when teaching CCD or Pre-Con or Confirmation.

  7. I agree that it is Christ alone with his ultimate sacrifice that redeemed us, in some sense our Blessed Mother participated in Christ's work of redemption, much like we through our baptism participate in Christ's office of priest, prophet and king. Ultimately it is Christ who is Priest, Prophet and King. All our efforts flow out of his works.

  8. Let's stay away from the debate about the title. It has nothing to do with the issue at hand.
