  1. Good! He probably isn't the only one this pervert abused. I hope his other victims come forward and sue him too.

  3. The old archbishop who retired to Cork, Ireland is also on the legal hook if what's being said about him ignoring abuse complaints is true.

Retired pedophile priests age 70+ have been imprisoned in the US. Dead ones have been censured by civil authorities as well.

    1. The criminal statute of limitations has long since expired, so punishment such as imprisonment is off the table.

This is a lawsuit for civil remedies.

    2. CNMI Lawyer. Under your law on Guam or indeed in the CNMI what is the penalty that could be imposed on any pensioner accused of rape?
What do you mean by civil remedies?

    3. Civil remedies. In the civil court system not the criminal court system. So seizure and sale of real property to auctioned off to satisfy an award for monetary damages. Garnishing bank accounts to satisfy the monetary damages.

    4. Is Bishop Camacho a religious Order priest like Apuron?

If so, he took a vow of Poverty and he has no significant assets to attach. If he isn't laicized, all the Church can do is garnish his pension and dump him into a charity-run retirement home.

    5. No he's not. Apuron once he became bishop was no longer bound to his vows of poverty and obedience.

    6. Apuron said he could go to a retirement home in the Capuchins' New York Province, so he's still a Franciscan.

  5. Based on the testimony of Melvin Duenas, Bishop Tomas Camacho kept him prisoner and raped him on an almost daily basis. Defrocking this bishop is not enough punishment, in my opinion.

  6. Bishop Camacho born in 1933.
Based on the testimony of Mr.Duenas Father Camacho raped him between 1971- 1973. Father Camacho was 38 years old when alleged crime took place.
Rapists abuse more than once. suspect there will be other victims of Bishop Tomas Camacho.

  7. Radio New Zealand says abuse lawsuits against Apuron have reached $60 million. Since up to 50% of that can be added for legal fees, Byrnes could be looking at a $90 million+ hit and none of the 16 cases have gone into litigation yet. As in the US, the Church's insurance carriers will fight the settlements and prevail significantly.

On a lighter note, RNZ's website has several color photos of your very beautiful Cathedral's exterior. It looks gorgeous against the clear blue skies.

    1. Entirely possible. Possibly more than $150 million because that archdiocese was the personal playground of a totally unsupervised criminal psychopath and his Neocat groupies. The Cats should be sued as well.

No one thought the Los Angeles, California abuse settlements would reach $1 billion, but they eventually did. Reportedly, a few L.A. cases are still pending. They were filed against religious Orders that were finally forced to release their personnel records last year.

  9. Attention, young men and women fresh into the judicial system, "Go West," there is a lot to be panned out in El Dorado, Guam! $5 million a pop, with a commission of at least 30%, wow, one can establish private office and then some, to include the lapel pin and bumper sticker that says, "I bankrupted a diocese, I obtained justice for clergy victims, and I brought down abusive Catholic priests!"

  10. CNMI Lawyer.

Are you the lawyer defending Father Thomas Camacho?

    1. No, I am not professionally involved in this case or any of the others.

In response to a question upthread, Bishop Emeritus Camacho was always a diocesan priest, not a member of a religious order.

Today I recalled an account bishop Camacho often told me. In the light of revelations I find it bizare as i reflect.
In the days we were friends he talked alot about St.Joseph's inarajan. He talked about that big tree in the Parking lot of St.Joseph's. He told me when he retired as bishop of saipan he planned to " retire to inarajan ,sit under that tree, drinking beer with his boys."
I think he should vacate that house he lives in on san pedro mountain with his family which was paid for on church money and allow Bishop Ryan to live there. He should return to Guam now and retire to St.Josephs parish because that was his script of his life. It was to end in Inarajan not Saipan.
