THAT STRANGE NON DEVOTIONAL NEOCATECHUMENAL CORPUS CHRISTI

Posted by LaPaz, Jungle Watch Correspondent from Spain.

Let me tell some brushstrokes of history on the fest of Corpus Christi for us, catholics.

The feast of the Corpus Christi dates back to the end of the 13th century thanks to the visions of St. Julian of Mont Cornillon (Belgium) and the well-known miracle of Bolsena.

Saint Juliana was the prioress in the abbey of Mont Cornillon, the center of a movement of Eucharist adoration from which come some customs as the bells during consecration. Since she was young Saint Juliana showed great veneration for the Blessed Sacrament and in her visions the Church, represented by a full moon, appeared with a black stain that meant the absence of a fest in His honor.

Some bishops, upon hearing her visions, decided to establish the feast of the Corpus in their respective dioceses, among them the later Pope Urban IV.

Meanwhile Saint Juliana was spreading her visions, a priest of Bolsena, doubting the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, witnessed how the Sacred Form, when being departed during the consecration, soaked the corporal cloth with blood. It was conserved as relic and transferred in procession until Orvieto (12 of June of 1264), north of Rome, where Pope's court was installed.

Pope Urban IV, moved by such prodigy and at the request of several bishops, published his bull "Transiturus" in September of the same year, setting the solemnity of Corpus Christi for Thursday after the feast of the Holy Trinity, granting indulgences to those who attend Celebration of the office and Mass (the office of the liturgy of the Hours of the Solemnity was entrusted to St. Thomas Aquinas, author of Pange Lingua hymn).

The death of Urban IV in October of 1264 made that the diffusion of the celebration in the universal Church was postpone until 1317, being Pope John XXII. The celebration of processions of the Blessed Sacrament, endowed with indulgences, became common from the fourteenth century.

The Council of Trent (1545-1563) declared that the Corpus was celebrated with a singular solemnity, and was honorably carried in procession through streets and public places. Fundamental act of the Counter Reformation with which the Catholic Church would testify its gratitude and memory of the miracle of transubstantiation and the victory of Jesus Christ over death.

Now, I would like to write some reflections about what was previously written and my experience as a neocatechumenal member during two decades.

1. I had never heard a word on Corpus Christy fest in the NCW. It was absolutely out. My community never celebrated that fest as a main fest or a significative celebration for a catholic.

Once I was out of the NCW I knew my former community had to do a new celebration once a year, of course a neocatechumenal celebration, "related" with Corpus Christi. I say just "related" because they do not celebrate the Corpus Christi universal for all catholics fest, of course!! They celebrate another different thing, of course!!

This neocatechumenal arkane, once more, if for all neos who had already finished the Way a year before. Then, such neo-celebration around Corpus takes place only a year after the end of the itinerary.

I think that stupid norm obeys to the fact that each community has to travel to Domus Galilaeae for the honeymoon after they had celebrated the Paschal Vigil with their white tunics for the first time. Then, each community has to travel to Israel along that first year...it is possible they have to fly there while the rest of catholics are celebrating the Corpus.

Anyway, I insist: in the Neocatechumenal Way you are never told about the Corpus Christi fest, its meaning, its relevance...NOTHING AT ALL and NEVER. It is a non-existing fest for neos.

2. The fest of Corpus Christi has several meanings for catholics. As we have seen, it is very important as a tribute made in public in front of many non-belivers but also in front of those belivers who deny the transubtantiation of Christ during the consecration.

Let me use here the favourite neocatechumenal term "evangelization". Neos think or believe they are evangelizating when they sing and dance during five Sundays on fifty Passover. They think or believe their songs, by Kiko, are enough to bring conversion for other people. And they are wrong. Their songs do not bring faith to anybody.

Their songs and dances are just a number, a circus number for many, maybe a nice number for others, but just a number at least. They make it by their own, they do not represent the whole Catholic Church, just the neocatechumenals within the Church. They publicize their charisma and final point, as well as C&L publicize their movement during their annual Happening at universities. They hidde behind "evangelization" their own promotion.

Then, the neocatechumenals do not feel any special request to participate with their brothers and sisters in faith, catholics, in Corpus Christy solemnity. The NCW does not move a finger for it. Further, neocatechumenals, with Kiko and Carmen heading them, do not feel concerned about that fest.

Neocatechumenals do not share the faith which leads the Catholic Church to worship, adore and take the Corpus Christi in procession. If they shared all that holy devotion, they should have to kneel down while consecration. If they adored the Blessed Sacrament they would not understand eucharist as a mere festive banquet. Just if they believed in the transubstantation...but they do not.

Kiko and Carmen had tought neocatechumenals the eucharist is a memorial. I am afraid they are closer to protestants than catholics and that is why they do not need to show any special respect in front of the Corpus Christi. For them, God himself is present among them when they sing and dance in the streets, but not in the Blessed Sacrament taken in procesion.

I think neocatechumenals, trained by their main catechists, Kiko and Carmen and a priest, Father Mario, would be more devoted and reverent in front of a Torah -that one they have in Domus Galilaeae- taken in procesion than in front of the Blessed Sacrament in their parishes, of course!

It is really sad. They only give importance to their own activities, but always hidding it behind catholic words which confuse those of good intention.

3. As well as the NCW does with the Rosary and Mary's devotion, Kiko and Carmen had invented a full neocatechumenalized practise hidden behind the Corpus Christi fest, as a mere justification to look good for the gallery. They say they celebrate the Corpus Christi Vigil.

Can you imagine what do neocatechumenals during such Corpus Christi Vigil? Do you believe they do something like night worship? Do you believe they stay all night accompanying JesusChrist in front of the tabernacle? Do you believe they offer fasts and prayings by the intentions of the Pope or the sufferings of the world?

What does really mean such a Corpus Christi neocatechumenal Vigil

It is a private neocatechumenal celebration by little groups during the three nights before the Corpus Christi fest, where they combined prayers with readings of the Word -choosen by random from a member of the community for each one, with a strange meaning of prophecy for life along a year, with some parenthesis to have an agape and then continue praying and singing the Liturgy of Hours.

In summary, it is not a common Vigil for common catholics, it is a full neocatechumenal celebration, made by them and only for them. Nothing to do with the catholic fest of Corpus Christi. It is only an excuse to celebrate a new invent of Kiko and Carmen for those who had finished the Way and have nothing to do in Church except living for their movement.

But how devoted they seem when they say they adore Corpus Christi for three nights before Thursday. Pure appearance. Pure deception. They use a singular catholic custom to hidde their non catholic disrispect about Corpus Christi.

Again and again, Kiko takes a catholic use to empty its authentic meaning and then he introduces a new one, based on his twisted ideas with his "magic talking" bibles and his secret invented rituals.

That is diabolic.

  1. Thank you Lapaz for this information. I have always wondered why most of the NCW cult members in my parish would never attend any Eucharistic adoration held in the parish. Some the NCW cult members who do who attend Eucharistic adoration are those who were Catholics before being lured into the NCW, while the other NCW cult members who have attended Eucharistic adoration have no clue about what is Eucharistic adoration. It is very apparent that the NCW do not believe in the real presence, if this is so, how can they call themselves Catholic ????

    1. Actually it's quite easy. Most "regular" Catholics do not believe the Real Presence any more either, otherwise they'd never miss Mass, yet a recent Georgetown poll shows that only 22% of people identifying themselves as "Catholic" are "regular" Mass goers, with "regular" meaning attending Mass "at least once a month."

This is a direct result of our pastors descacralizing the Sacred Eucharist by doing everything from obliterating any sense of a sanctuary (an area set apart) in the church to permitting the Sacred Eucharist to be handled by any Tom, Dick and Harry in the name of "active participation."

We gave away the faith years ago. The Neos' just saw an opportunity to pick up the pieces and build a different church. They call it Catholic because they can. Since most people don't even know what that means.

    2. If the prophetic directions before and after 1960 had been heeded more exactly and less tardily, for example by 1960 a beauty queen may not have been murdered on Easter Eve, and a President may not have needed to leave part of what could have made him tick outside the door. By 1962, and the Council may have gone more coherently. By 1967, and liturgical, birth control related, social justice, environmental and "gender" related questions could have followed a better course - the accompaniment Christians could have given agnostics of good will in those fields and the ordinary suffering public (not to mention themselves) could have been more Holy Spirit filled and more solidly based (less superficially) on the meaning of Holy Scriptures, and hence wouldn't have turned out so unconvincing to so many of the public so soon as it has done (in spite of the propagandists who would be speaking against this).

Then Paul's later encyclical on evangelisation, and the 1980 England & Wales document "Easter People" (four-fifths of the content of which was meant to be about GENUINE "active participation") would have already had a foundation they could have been placed on.

Unfortunately Teilhardianism had swept the entire Church off its feet before 1960 and their eyes were all off the ball (I was aged 5 then).

By the mid 1980s when I came across them, to my untutored eye (whilst having repeatedly requested to be tutored) the NCW looked far more regular than the "regular" Church, in spite of being a veritable "paella" cooked up out of Arians-moriscos-marranos-illuminists-Jesuits-inquisitors-Sodalitium-flamenco dancers and more than a dash of pretend Opus Dei !!! (I just thought Catholics had an inconsequential tendency to act quaint anyway.)

I'm not aware that there was Adoration in any parish I knew until the last few years, also I was never catechised in it in spite of repeatedly requesting "catechesis" in general (which I "ended up getting" !!!).

    3. Also if the direction being received had been followed better by 1967:

      - the "charismatic" phenomenon would have gone much better instead of being such a vague, ambiguous and unintegrated thing as it is;

      - collaborative ministry ditto;

      - the abuse scandal would have been brought to a smaller and earlier "beginning of the end". St Johns Collegeville (where Law and colleagues sunk the 1985 proposal) and the Poncey Josephinum (Law's alma mater) wouldn't have become such nexuses and a good example would have been set for Abp Pell to shop Mulkearns in 1996.

  2. Shocking. Such deception. Many of my friends in NCW will be devastated when they find out. What are the hierarchy playing at???

  3. Thank you, LaPaz.

Carmen and Kiko's actual beliefs about the Real Presence can be found in two short paragraphs attributed to Carmen Hernandez on page 349 of the 1986 Volume I of the original Guidelines for Teams of Catechists, which I’ve translated from the Italian. Emphasis added by me.

“I always say to the Blessed Sacrament Fathers, they built an immense tabernacle: if Jesus Christ had wanted the Eucharist to stay there, he would have made this as a stone that does not go bad.

Bread is for the banquet, to lead us to the Passover. The real presence is always a means to lead us to an end, which is Passover. It is not an absolute, Jesus Christ is present as a function of the paschal Mystery. “

  4. Thank you, Chuck. Obviously, Kiko and Carmen are not in communion with Rome.

  5. LaPaz your experience as a former presbyter in the ncw is invaluable. I think there are many other presbyters in the way who are genuinely concerned about what they are involved in but have been influenced not to leave. All they know is the way and they are fearful of being outcasts!
Can you give your experience-CONCRETE PLEASE-to offer some hope to others like you who are thinking of leaving? Coragio!
