There's an article currently being shared around FB by some Catholics entitled: "It’s called an ‘obligation’ for a reason: yes, missing Mass IS a grave sin."
It's a good article and it's nice to hear someone actually say this again, but its main point is: "the Church says so." And unfortunately, that's simply 1st grade religion class stuff and largely the reason so many don't go today (though it still works for me :)
In my column View From the Pew, which formerly ran in the Umatuna, I attempted to explain WHY it is a mortal sin to miss Mass from Scripture. It's quite plain. Sharing it here:
