PDN: ARCHBISHOP'S NEW APPOINTMENT DRAWS CONCERN

One of Archbishop Michael Jude Byrnes' latest appointments is drawing concern from a group of Catholics, which claims Msgr. David C. Quitugua's alleged abuse of power as vicar general and judicial vicar under Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron makes him unworthy of holding any post in the chancery.

"(Quitugua) should be retired and removed from being a member of the clergy," Concerned Catholics of Guam President David Sablan said. CONTINUED

  1. Looks like a slap in the people's face by appointing these knuckleheads to these positions after having exposed the truth about quitugua and cristobal. Maybe no one else will accept them and that's the reason why this archdiocese HAS to place them somewhere. Oh well, I'm sure God has His plans.

  2. This is disgraceful! I told you Byrnes couldn't be trusted. Neos are still pulling his strings. Adrian will probably get some type of big job too.

  3. My guess is that a Neo-friendly landing zone is being prepared for Apuron's return. He won't be defrocked.

    1. I don't think Apuron will return. Nearly all the priests are only praying for Archbishop Byrnes during the mass. Even Fr. Jeff who claims to love Apuron has stopped praying for and acknowledging Apuron as archbishop during mass. Apparently the priests know something that us lay people have not yet been told.

  4. PDN reporter Haidee V. Eugenio has been using this erroneous boilerplate in repeated articles:

Pope Francis appointed Byrnes on Oct. 31, 2016, as coadjutor archbishop for the Archdiocese of Agana, with all rights to succeed Apuron should Apuron resign, retire or is [be] removed.

    (Correction added.)

I hope Ms. Eugenio reads this blog, or has a friend who does.

  5. "How many times must we tell them the truth, before they realize they're wrong?" "When will they ever learn. . . when will they e-e-ver learn."

I suppose when Adrian completes his Canon Law studies in Canada (yeah, right), he will be an associate judge also.

Good choice with Fr. Karl; terrible choice with Quitugua. Quitugua himself should be put on trial for his mismanagement of the affairs of the Archdiocese; the lies he and Apuron fabricated to oust Msgr. James Benavente as rector of the Cathedral-Basilica, then taking over and putting the Agana parish further into debt. No one knows him, so donors are not likely to support his requests for financial help, especially since they know he is deceitful.

He threatened Richard Untalan in writing with excommunication for doing his job as chairman of the Finance Council.

He faked the certificate of title for the Yona property to hide the fact that it was given away to the RMS corporation, which was controlled by people from outside of Guam who are members of the Neocatechumenal Way. He then published the fake certificate in the Umatuna Si Yuus, lying to the people about the ownership of the Yona property!! The gall of this guy!

I read that it took Quitugua about 10 years to get his Canon Law degree. He must have liked being a student rather than being a priest working in our Archdiocese. When he was appointed pastor of Inarajan, he was hardly ever in the village, even when there was a house for the priest near the church. He preferred to mingle with the Neocats at the RMS. Others said the Sunday and weekday masses.

Archbishop Byrnes, get rid of this charlatan once and for all. Retire him, or send him to Minnesota to take care of Louis Brouillard.

  6. Archbishop Byrnes is a really good person. From my encounters with him, it is not in his nature not to want to reconcile. And this is what I believe he feels he is doing by appointing David the former VG to this position on the tribunal.

However, Archbishop Byrnes is also still in a learning curve about what has come before him. If nothing else, Quitugua should himself stand trial before a tribunal before actually being appointed to one.

This is based on his involvement with the alienation of the Yona property under the guise of a "deed restriction." But even if that can be argued, there is no arguing about his trafficking in bogus government documents which led to his publishing of the falsified certificate of title for the Yona property this very month, two years ago.

There is also the matter that Byrnes only recently fired him from the Presbyteral council for "insubordination" which really was much more than that: an abuse of his office.

Something tells me that much of this was done behind Byrnes' back.

But for those who just want to be rid of Quitugua the former VG as a priest, that's not so easy. It's one of the idiosyncrasies of the diocesan priesthood that essentially gives certain men a "job for life," unless severe cause to remove him can be proved.

And for those who are wondering why I am not posting much, it is because there is not much to post. There is no news, really, except for this. But also, as far as I'm concerned, JungleWatch has done it's job. And whether justice will be rendered temporally or eternally is not my call. Meanwhile, I'm writing a book.

Other authors may post. So check back occasionally. Otherwise, choose your battles wisely.

    1. Tim, you can't "reconcile" with cancer and mad dogs. If you don't kill them dead, they will quickly kill you.

Byrnes is shooting himself in the foot again by pandering to these extremely dangerous fake priests. The Archdiocese will only get worse if they are not defrocked or otherwise completely removed.

    2. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Byrnes is a dud. Nothing there will change for the better. Neos still have a hold on the Archdiocese.

    3. Like Tim said "Archbishop Byrnes is a really good person. From my encounters with him, it is not in his nature not to want to reconcile."

His actions are pastoral, what he is doing is giving the NCW a chance to prove that they are a Catholic community as they claim to be.

This is good, because many in the Church around the world are all watching. If the NCW behave in their usual way, the whole world will witness what the NCW truly is. We do not have to worry, the NCW’s enemy is itself.

This is why the NCW needs to be brought out into the open to expose what is really is.

Remember the parable of the lamp (Luke 8: 16-17) - "No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lamp-stand so that those who enter may see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light"

  9. Byrnes is in Filoni's back pocket. He always was. That's why Adrian was sent to Canada at your expense before Byrnes knew anything about his criminal history.
