SIGN THE PETITION

NOTE: While some may be asking why only 250 people have signed their names to this petition, we are marveling that that's almost 13,000% more people than have put their name to anything thus far. But also, we received several inquiries asking who Fr. Pius is. That's a good question. Though he's on two payrolls (the seminary and the archdiocese) and lives with the Archbishop, he is rarely visible. THAT should be a clue as to why this petition was important. Thank you for your participation. We have now posted  a petition concerning two people who are much better known.

PETITION OF CONCERN REGARDING THE ACTIONS, WORDS, AND INFLUENCE OF FR. PIUS SAMMUT O.C.D.

Dear Father General,
We believe that Fr. Pius Sammut O.C.D. has had a largely negative influence on the administration of the Archdiocese of Agana and that his words and actions here as a leader of the Neocatechumenal Way have had a divisive effect on the Church of God in Guam for the better part of two decades.
We ask that you review his words, actions, and influence on Guam to ensure that it is compatible with the mission of the Discalced Carmelites and that you assert your appropriate authority to guaranty that Fr. Sammut’s work here on Guam comports to the high ideals of his Carmelite order.
If necessary, please remove him from service in Guam.
Go here to sign the petition.

    5. What a sad display of support for your cause. You've had this petition up for two days and haven't even cracked 200 people to sign. Maybe this is proof of how much support you really have? You can't even mobilize your supposed concerned Catholics. You're probably just a small bunch of internet trolls too lazy to even get off your butt and get people to sign because you're too busy sitting down eating and trolling at your computers and phones. So much for this petition. SAD!!!!!!! You guys should've been in the thousands by now. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

    2. Actually William I have already submitted my concerns to the FBI given the threats I have received via the comments, most of which I have not published. The IP addresses of the service providers traceable to those comments is public information and is provided by a stat tracker attached to this blog. I don't know who the other person is who said they are tracking IP addresses, but I am fully within my rights to install a stat tracker and keep a history of visitors to this blog. However, given the ESL nature of your comment, I doubt your name is William Welch or that the DOD is "keeping an eye on this blog". LOL.

In fact, since you logged on from Santa Rita, I think we all know your real name.

Why is it that she will defend the Archbishop all the way on this matter, when he himself did not answer to Nuncio Balvo's request? Disobedience! Yes it is! Fr Pius is also very active throughout the Pacific, including Hawaii, the CNMI, the Solomons, Samoa, Tahiti, PNG, Vanuatu, and many other locations. If you agree then you need to add your name to the petition. If you do not then prepare yourselves for an invasion when the Neo realizes their base in Guam has been totally overrun.

And the funny thing is that even the Archbishop is a contributor to the blog with comments and countless page views, as well as Fr Adrian/Diana, and even Msgr David finds time from his sick bed to search for good news.
Sorry, nothing positive for you boys. Everybody now sees you three for exactly who you are and they cannot believe you three control the Church.

  31. after reflecting on it for a couple of days, i've decided to sign the petition. it took me a while to decide because i don't live on guam anymore, and so i haven't witnessed any of the developments that have occurred in the guam church in the past several years.

clearly, though, the situation has spiraled down astonishingly fast, beginning with the confusion over fr paul gofigan last year to the events of the past week.

so, i signed the petition not because i fully concur with the first paragraph (because i only know what i see online), but more because the second paragraph simply asks for a review of fr pius by the discalced carmelite order.

because the carmelite friars are not really present on guam, the review by the superiors should be reasonably independent. however, since his own order would be conducting the review, i expect the burden of proof will be on us, the petitioners.

  32. Is the NCW a SECT or CULT?

The August 6 PDN Voice of the People section published the esteemed opinions of two kikos trying to convince the island they are not a sect or a cult. Fr Adrian, number three in the Guam Church hierarchy and currently studying canon law, sternly warns us: “…calling the Neocatechumenal Way a ‘sect’ is absolutely false. This is the second time the term ‘sect’ has been used.” Those lawyer instincts in him hints that further use of this vile term should never happen in the public again! PDN be warned!

He then throws in the kiko phrase we are so familiar with: Hey, so many Popes have allowed it, and Cardinals and Bishops, too. Somebody loves us, he cries out in indignation. But Adrian, didn’t other heresies exist in the Church as well?

He concludes his enlightened thoughts with: “It is more than misinformation, it is also an injustice against the Catholic Church on Guam to falsely apply this terminology to a portion of the local community…” Wow, Fr Adrian has certainly learned well in his studies at the DeVry school of Canon Law.

HOWEVER, real attorneys know that definitions are important, so I would like to help Fr Adrian in his goal to become a real lawyer. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines sect as:
“:a religious group that is a smaller part of a larger group and whose members all share similar beliefs
: a religious or political group that is connected to a larger group but that has beliefs that differ greatly from those of the main group.”

Shall we rewrite the dictionary to help you, Fr Adrian? You yourself admit that the Neo is a subset of the larger group, “a portion of the local community…”. It is about 500 members in all, out of about 135,000 members of the Guam Catholic community, according to your Archbishop.

Your members are all indoctrinated with the same “secret” catechism so that all members will have similar beliefs. And I think a reasonable man would look at your practices and beliefs and conclude that kikos are radically different from the main group. Sounds to me like you need to review the dictionary better, because you certainly seem to fit this definition. Noah Webster further clarifies that a sect is “a group adhering to a distinctive doctrine or to a leader”. Sounds like the kikos pretty much meet these definitions. BUT WAIT! Melvin W. Quinene adds that we are ludicrous to call the Neo a cult or sect.

    to be continued…

    1. Adrian studying Canon Law? An online course? Who is doing the on line classes for him? When does he have time to do it? He is undertaking so many things that there seem to be no time for sleep. Who is actually taking the course You or someone pretending to be you, Father Adrian? You are not smart and it shows in your homilies.

      Delete
    2. Diana is taking the online canon law class for Adrian. Don't expect much from him.

  33. Is the NCW a SECT or a CULT?
    continuation…

In his letter he states that: “Masses are celebrated in much the same way as at the regular parish masses…”. Really? So why did you have to get different statutes to celebrate differently? You have 3 hour masses, with group sharing for the homily, admonitions, and celebrate in private masses, outside the Church. You even acknowledge that there is a regular parish; and then there is your kiko mass. That doesn’t sound very similar to me.

Melvin continues that members had fallen away from Mother Church and have been in crisis. OK. Let’s see what Merriam-Webster has to say about cults and compare to Melvin’s own description of the “Way”. According to the experts, a cult is:
“: a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous
: a situation in which people admire and care about something or someone very much or too much
: a small group of very devoted supporters or fans

Well, they are kind of a part of the Church, as Fr Adrian tries to show, but they really operate more as a parallel church. They have their own private celebrations, their own seminaries, and their own catechesis. Kiko has more authority over the kikos than the Archbishop. In addition to their eucharist, they also receive their other sacraments apart from Mother Church. And according to Melvin “… they have stopped going to Mother Church and are coming back to her…” So they are not a part of the Church while in the Way, but one day plan to come back to the regular Church.

That begs the question: why is our Archdiocese led by a shepherd who has fallen away from Mother Church?

Now as for the second and third definitions, we don’t need to spend much time beyond the weekend trip to Manila to see their initiator Kiko. And they seem to be obligated to buy all his products: from carpets, to wine, to candles, to tabernacles and crosses, and artwork. The marketing machine is quite astonishing. So too is their great devotion to anything kiko. And to Kiko himself. He even has his own prayer card!

Now, I’ll give Melvin some slack because he is only parroting the script Kiko has written for the entire kiko cult. But as an official(?) of the Catholic Church on Guam, and an aspiring canon lawyer, I hold Fr. Adrian to a much higher standard.

Fr. Adrian, I hope this lesson has been helpful to you and that you now see quite clearly that the neo is a sect if they still belong to the Mother Church. If they are separated from the Church as Melvin posits, then the kikos are members of a cult.

So Rev. Chancellor, we wait on your legal opinion. Is the Neo a sect or a cult, or both?
The World awaits! Maybe Monsignor David, JCD can render an opinion to help us out.

PS – Noah Webster would like a photo of Kiko to place next to the word that best describes the kikos.

  34. Observing how things are going these past few days, I'm finding that despite concrete documentation being revealed clearly showing wrongdoing on the Archbishop's part, this whole issue circumscribed by the Archbishop's involvement in the Neocatechumenal Way has made this a very very delicate matter to discuss. It seems those who walk in the Way are very much die hard loyal to the Way with conviction. It's astonishing how righteous they feel they are. And what did we traditional Catholics expect? For at least 20 years we idly looked the other way as the Neo Movement took root and deeply entrenched itself deeper and deeper into our island. We did nothing, even though some of us already knew something was not right. We looked away. And now we're faced with this big task of trying to make things right, but really this is a big mess and we really need to wake up and realize how monumental of a mess this is that we have to fix. Looking at the turnout of the petition, it's been more than two days now that the petition has been up and it's barely broken past 250. Where is the conviction? Where is the mobilizing? Where is the supposed strong passion to drive Pius out? Sorry but 250 out of the entire Catholic populace hardly shows conviction. Drawing again what Cardinal Tagle said in his homily for Monsignor James' Anniversary Mass when he quoted his mentor Fr. Horatio-

    “He will fill our nets with fish;
but only if we are willing to fish all night,
    even if we catch nothing.
    He will make our water wine;
but only if we take our jars to the well
    and stagger back with them
filled not half-way but to the brim.
    He will feed the multitudes;
but only if we are willing to share
    our limited resources
    our five loaves
    and two fish…”

Have we been "fishing all night", "staggering to get our jars filled at the well", have we been doing OUR part in the share of the work so that the Lord would justly deliver us?

Just something to ponder. If the answer is no, that you haven't done all you can, well then it isn't too late to get your feet wet and do all you can to help make our voices heard, whether it's through this petition, through letters of concern, or through genuine fellowship and communication with our fellow Catholic brothers and sisters. In other words, GET OFF YOUR BUMS AND LET'S GET TO WORK!

    2. if it's not already obvious to people, behind any "climate of fear and reprisal" is this: power.

In a climate of fear now created by Archbishop Apuron it is not easy for 270 brave people to come forward and sign their names. This shows that the people of Guam have only one concern to restore Truth, Justice, dignity, and integrity, to the Roman Catholic Church in Guam. These Nobel men and women have signed their names for the cause of truth.
