WHAT SORT OF BISHOP?

So now that we have exposed another lie from the chancery about the reason for the two editions of the U Matuna last week, apparently Edivaldo and Holly (Diana) are hard at work doing the chancery's bidding to concoct an even bigger lie.

  1. What more of as mess in the financial status of the Cathedral and the Cemetery be in? Just wondering after reading Diana's post....which I have copied and pasted here.It was brought to my attention that Junglewatch claims to have three copies of the Umatuna of last week, August 10th. Well, I also have one copy. The Umatuna was withdrawn due to the fact that the report on finances was not complete, and much worse things are coming out. That is the reason why it was recalled as far as I know. It was also brought to my attention that the financial mess of the cathedral and the cemeteries is much worse than we originally thought. More to come as soon as I can get more information.
I replied to this in a comment, but let's look at it more in depth here. First Diana is Fr. Edivaldo (the pastor of Chalan Pago parish) and Holly Leon Guerrero (and no doubt there are others). Of course they are major neo's and they are seeing their empire collapsing around them so we can expect them to become increasingly desperate. I really do hate to include Holly's name, but until she flat out denies any connection to "Diana" as Ms. Blas did, then we have to assume that she and Edivaldo are a team.

So we are told by Edivaldo and Holly that the Cathedral and the Cemetery are even more of a mess. That would mean that Deloitte and Touche is inept. The letter D & T sent to Archbishop Apuron on January 8, listed the discrepancies that needed to be addressed. Archbishop Apuron used that letter to trash Msgr. James even though, as we now know, all but one issue had been completely addressed even to the Archbishop's satisfaction as evidenced by his letter to Msgr. James of June 26. And Msgr. James had until August 15 to address the remaining issue but was fired on July 25.

That the chancery is saying that there is even more trash is to say that Deloitte and Touche apparently did not do its job and the chancery itself has found even more bad stuff.

So, let's say that they did. Let's say that Archbishop Apuron and his cronies have "much worse stuff that will be coming out", as Edivaldo and Holly claim. Then please tell us:

  • What sort of a bishop would be "coming out" at all?
  • What sort of a bishop would be "coming out" with evidence of mismanagement in order to publicly incriminate one of his priests?
  • What sort of a bishop takes internal problems public without a single attempt to address those problems with the privacy that charity demands?
  • What sort of  a bishop persistently goes to the media (once to the secular media and twice now to the U Matuna) about a problem with a priest that even the manager of the smallest company would not even think of doing?
  • What sort of a bishop goes public with documentation that he won't even show to the priest he is using the documentation against?
  • What sort of a company manager would not want to handle his company's problems personally and internally, let alone an Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church?
  • What sort of a father would prefer to smear his son in the press before trying to work things out with his son?
  • What sort of a bishop is this?

We can only hope, if we are to give charity a chance, that Archbishop Apuron is severely ill and must be immediately removed. Because if this is not the case, then we have a bishop who is evil incarnate, and he wouldn't be the first one.

  1. Tim,

When are you going to upload the first edition? I want to see it myself. Thanks

    1. Maybe later today. However, what was in the article is not why they removed it. It was what was in the letter they got last Friday afternoon that made them remove it. But I don't have permission to show that letter. Most won't understand what the big deal was when they see the article because most of it is just a repeat of the trash they already put in the week before. However, they took a swipe at me also. I'll put it up soon.

    2. Tim at 9:03 AM states, in response to eileenbb's 8:51 AM comment, that the letter in question wasn't "FROM" Msgr. James which leads me to think that the letter was from someone representing Msgr. James — perhaps an attorney?

Maybe the letter was of a "cease and desist" nature regarding the continued attack on Msgr. James by the Chancery? Maybe?

A letter from an attorney representing Msgr. James just MIGHT throw the Chancery into the panic attack and force the reprinting of an "official" and "on record" edition of the 10 August 2014 U Matuna Si Yu'os …

  5. Let me tell you what kind of archbishop he is. He is the kind that has lost all sense of governance. He has allowed evil to permeate his administration. He has allowed the Neo bosses to direct and guide him on the administration of this archdiocese particularly who becomes pastors and what to do with all the devoted and good Filipino priests that have served Guam for many years. He has allowed the brutal and un-Christian like firing of Fr. Paul and Monsignor James. If anyone claims that Fr. Pius does not influence the archbishop, then that person is living in Pluto. But the worse of it--our archbishop has allowed the strife and divisions within Guam to fester and grow.

The cancer of venom and hate that the archbishop created has spread. Instead of reaching out to reconcile and heal the divisions, the archbishop is allowing it to fester. Why? Because he wants his Neo to take over all of the key parishes in Guam and to eliminate possible successors to him that are not Neo priests by smearing and destroying their good name with lies and venom. It is working. He does not care about the pain and suffering that is taking place. To win and dominate is all the archbishop cares for. Once he wipes out his opposition, he wins.

This is how WAR works. You destroy the opposition with every means at your disposal. There are no ethics or morals in war. The archbishop is waging an all out war to slash and burn and destroy. How else can one explain the brutal firings of Fr. Paul and Monsignor James, and the brutal no to the incardination of Fr. Jun, Manny, and Simeon? Yet, a neo priest, Fr. Wadeson, not from here and had not served in Guam at all was immediately incardinated without question or investigation into his background. Charity, compassion, love, and all the good things that Jesus wants in our bishops were shockingly absent in these firings! And all the good sense and prudence that one should have and do to check on the background of priests who want to be incardinated was equally lacking in the incardination of Fr. Wadeson. It is a monstrous and diabolical way to govern and teach. There is no love in the archbishop, just a drive to slash and burn with such venom intensity that will make General Sherman's march through the South pale in comparison.

Mr. Rohr: please do not give up. You are the last stance for all that is good in the Church in Guam. The Bible is replete with all kinds of individuals who stood up to evil and shouted what is good and divine in the wilderness, villages, towns, and cities. All perished and were destroyed by the evil ones on earth, but in the end, God was with them, embraced them, and escorted them into his heavenly banquet.

  9. What the Archbishop has been doing wrong . He is not suppose to embarrass priests in public which can lead to criticism of the Catholic church by other denominations . He is O.F.M. Order of the Franciscan Minors Capuchin . Priests are suppose to forgive and bear patients .I admire the Msgr.Benavente and Fr.Paul for obeying orders of the arch and how thy handle the situation .One of they very excellent priests I have known .He could talk to them in private and reconcililate so they may be better in the future. However the Archbishop decides to take fame in them press . It just going to give the Catholic church on Guam a bad picture . Archbishop with respect you must stop what your doing and be honest with us. Tell Us everything !

  12. Diana today reports "Exodus from Cathedral" --
"In an apparent effort to paralyze Monsignor David Quitugua in his new assignment as Rector of the Cathedral and Director of the Cemeteries, there has been a quasi-total resignation of the staff at both of these two places. It was calculated that over 90% of the staff left. Thus, the question arises in my mind......were they serving the people who attend the Cathedral-Basilica or a priest, in this case, a Monsignor??? "

    1. Oh okay, Diana, let's all just forget the fact that Monsignor James was wronged and publicly humiliated by Archbiship Apuron. Let's forget that he faithfully served the people at the Agana Cathedral with a commitment that not even the Archbiship displays. Let's forget that the people who worked with him are heartbroken at the loss of a beloved shepherd at their parish and that they have every right to be upset. They have every right to refuse to work for Monsignor David given the present circumstance.

Diana, it seems, has no sense of morality or integrity. She seems to believe that any commitment displayed to persons outside of the NCW is an act of disobedience. Listen, Diana, if the resignation of these people upsets you so much, feel free to pick up the slack. I doubt you will be able to operate as diligently or as effectively as those who assisted Monsignor James.

    2. Anon 930pm My question to you is, Did Msgr David ever make himself available to the staff at least to introduce himself as the new rector? And did the new rector at least have a discussion with the staff and hear the input and ideas? Those people employed at the Cathedral and the cemeteries were pretty sure hard working and dedicated people who gave their talents and service to God and the church.
By the way, is the Archbishop obedient to the Holy Father or in this case, a LAYMAN named Kiko???

    3. Oh please, get off your gutter ball way of thinking. At least appear to think with some intelligence. You can see this happening at the Cathedral but are still blind as to why? Can you AT LEAST think and do your research before you write? Again, you NEOs throw out another percentage (90%). Wow!, so 9 out of 10 staff left? I did not know there were that many "staff" at the Basilica. Last I knew, most were volunteers. Do your homework NEO CATS!

    4. Diana is so naïve. These good people were hired by Monsignor James. He led them and inspired them to do good. He has been fired. Under these circumstances, none of these employees want to hang around and be fired next, or work for a man, the Vicar general, who was instrumental in firing Monsignor James. Yes, they worked for the Cathedral but if your work environment is one of hostility, paranoid, and back-stabbing, would you hang around? Of course not. You want to work for someone who has integrity, is upright, fair, decent, and compassionate, all of which are lacking from the Chancery thugs!

  14. Their resignation has nothing to do with Monsignor James. The new administration at cathedral are giving them pressure and it's a hostile environment. Why? Because they want to replace these dedicated staff with bunch of their neocrats, neorobots and neo knights. What a joke? I no longer donate my money to the cathedral. The neocrats are the ones getting the benefit.

  15. As a parishioner of the Agana Cathedral-Basilica for over 20 years, I would like to impart my experiences and observations from the day I became a registered parishioner to the present time. I started attending Mass there before Monsignor James became a priest. The prevailing feeling at the time among the Catholic community on Guam was that our Church leadership was not effective in addressing the exodus of Catholics to other Christian churches. If fact, some people even stopped attending Mass. Enter father James Benavente, a newly ordained priest with a kindred spirit that people sensed immediately. Father James did not pressure people to attend Mass or be involved in helping him with serving the parish. He simply asked with a smile, keeping a cheerful expression regardless of the response. As the years passed improvements were made in the physical facility, more people stepped up to become readers, Eucharistic lay ministers, altar servers etc. Attendance at Mass grew and more people participated in parish activities. When father James was elevated to Monsignor James he did not let his new title go to his head.
The abrupt removal of Monsignor James, accompanied by a smear campaign, tore at the hearts of his family, friends, and parishioners who've come to respect and love him. The Neos fail to see that Monsignor James' appeal goes beyond his smile. He is seen as priest who faithfully took care the needs of his parishioners and parish because of the vocation he chose. Can we say the same for the Archbishop and his Neo priests? The answer is a resounding NO!
Monsignor James is all about the Catholic community he serves. The Neo leadership, to include the Archbishop, is self-serving.
As far as the Hagatna parish losing workers, altar servers, and other support people, I give them a lot of credit making a stand. It is not about serving the Monsignor. It is about respect, dignity, loyalty, and the truth. It is a stand against the forces trying to take over the Catholic church on Guam. Atan Jesu Christo, siha y taotaomu...

I do think about that myself. Especially during the Lost Fr. Jucutan Masses!

Does it mean that if jucutan and other neo priests fails to believe that he is consecrating the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ that we ate not truly receiving Jesus during Communion?

Is this really true? Please expound.

I am horrified. Then why even go to Mass where they preside then?

  17. I would not receive the Eucharist from any neo priest simply because I am not convinced of their intention at the consecration of the bread and wine into our Lord's Body and Blood. At the same time I now question the position of archbishop and his unity with Rome.

    2. Anonymous (August 17, 2014 at 3:47 PM), thank you for addressing that it is the INTENTION of the priest — not the belief as mentioned by Anonymous @ 2:12 PM — that is necessary for the bread and wine to become the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Like Anon 2:12, I was concerned about whether the RMS priests — and even the Archbishop as a member of the NCW — believe they are consecrating the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. But I was assured that as long as the priest intends to change the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Our Lord — even if he himself does not believe in Transubstantiation — it will happen.

Still, to be on the "safe" side, I choose to attend Masses celebrated by Non-NCW priests.

    3. if anyone has strong evidence of heresy and invalidity of the sacraments, please report it to the appropriate church authorities right away.

otherwise, it's not right to bring up charges like this on any priest without evidence and to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt on parishioners.

    4. rey d at 12:26 AM, unless the celebrant says, in the presence of witnesses, "I do not intend to change the bread and wine into the Precious Body and Blood" — which no priest (Neo or NON-Neo) in his right mind would do! — we would not have the evidence you say we need regarding the invalidity of the sacraments (in this case, Holy Eucharist).

As for evidence of heresy, one would have to attend and record the catechesis to get it first hand. However, what I do know from researching the NCW since January 2006 — and it has been stated in this blog by a member of the NCW — is that Kiko Argüello teaches that "it is from the COMMUNITY that the Eucharist springs" (my emphasis) and NOT from the words of Consecration spoken by the priest with the intention of changing the substance of the bread and wine into the Precious Body and Blood. THIS teaching — that the Eucharist "springs" from the COMMUNITY — is a heresy. The RMS priests are all members of the NCW and have learned that concept — the COMMUNITY, not the priest, is what brings Christ into the bread — so it is only natural that I question their intent.

It is clear that Kiko Argüello et al teach CONsubstantiation, which is why they believe that once the service is over, Christ is no longer present in the crumbs of bread on the floor. They do not teach TRANsubstantiation which is the belief that, at the words of Consecration, while they might still look like mere bread and wine, the substance has been changed into the Body and Blood of Our Lord, which is why we genuflect — or are supposed to genuflect — or, if unable to genuflect, make a gesture of reverence (like a profound bow) in His Presence outside of the Mass.

It is because of the schema of the NCW presbyters — the embedded belief that the COMMUNITY is what changes the bread into Jesus as long as their service is going on — that causes me to avoid a Mass celebrated by them because I want to be sure of the intention of the priest celebrating the Mass. I believe that NON-Neo priests are more likely to have the right intention.

    5. it seems to me that it's pretty easy to confirm these serious allegations: ask fr michael jucutan what he believes about the Eucharist. it might be rude—i can imagine a few priests being offended that they’re even being asked that question—but if people have so much doubt about something so fundamentally important, go ahead and just ask him.

also, i find it very hard to believe that a group that "is clear" to be teaching consubstantiation instead of transubstantiation, has not already caught the eye of the congregation for the doctrine of the faith. i would expect that a movement as large as the ncw would've been investigated and corrected long ago.

i’m obviously trying my best not to take sides in this fight. what i most care about is ensuring true Catholic teaching, while working towards unity, reconciliation, and healing. i’m holding on to the hope that reconciliation is possible.

this call goes out to all sides of this fight: let’s please not accuse our neighbors and priests of heresy and apostasy without (pardon the pun) substantiated proof. one suggestion: how about if folks just got together at king’s and talk this out first?

      Delete
    6. The problem is that they are NOT clear about their teaching and purposely so. They know the consequences. And In fact, it was investigated and corrected. The Vatican did all that before giving final approval to its catechetical directory. The challenge is that we know that the NCW regularly disregards its own statute and most probably the corrected version of its catechetical directory as well. Also, you will never find the truth by asking any of them directly. We should have learned that by now. The safest thing to do is to attend Mass presided over by a non-neo priest, and when that it is not possible, know that regardless of the priests intent, God still respects yours.

Only God knows what's in the heart, mind, and soul of each person who professes love for Him. If a priest, who is human (and no better than any of us) fails to deliver the Eucharist as prescribed then the SIN is on him. I believe God will continue to bless me because of my unwavering faith. May God bless us all despite the turmoil in our Catholic community.

  19. Worth re-posting. Just came across this:

    AnonymousJuly 31, 2014 at 3:24 AM

You, dear brother, have been chosen by the Lord. Remember that you are chosen from among men and appointed to act for men and women in relation to God. The title of bishop is not one of honor but of function, and therefore a bishop should strive to serve rather than to rule. Such is the counsel of the Master: the greater should behave as if he were the least, and the leader as if he were the one who serves. Proclaim the message whether it is welcome or unwelcome; correct error with unfailing patience and teaching. Pray and offer sacrifice for the people committed to your care and so draw every kind of grace for them from the overflowing holiness of Christ.
As a steward of the mysteries of Christ in the church entrusted to you, be a faithful overseer and guardian. Since you are chosen by the Father to rule over his family, always be mindful of the Good Shepherd, who knows his sheep and is known by them and who did not hesitate to lay down his life for them.
As a father and a brother, love all those whom God places in your care. Love the priests and deacons who share with you the ministry of Christ. Love the poor and infirm, strangers and the homeless. Encourage the faithful to work with you in your apostolic task; listen willingly to what they have to say. Never relax your concern for those who do not yet belong to the one fold of Christ; they too are commended to you in the Lord. Never forget that in the Catholic Church, made one by the bond of Christian love, you are incorporated into the college of bishops. You should therefore have a constant concern for all the churches and gladly come to the aid and support of churches in need. Attend to the whole flock in which the Holy Spirit appoints you an overseer of the Church of God -- in the name of the Father, whose image you personify in the Church -- and in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, whose role of Teacher, Priest, and Shepherd you undertake -- and in the name of the Holy Spirit, who gives life to the Church of Christ and supports our weakness with his strength.

  20. I’m starting to feel that this whole situation regarding finances is a diversion to protect the Neo’s accumulated wealth on Guam. You see, the Neocatechumenal Way believes that in order to follow Christ, one needs to sell his own goods; but, once this renunciation has been accomplished, it is permissible to acquire other goods and to enjoy all the pleasures of life. This obligation to sell one’s own goods and to pay the “tithe” causes the accumulation of huge amounts of money. By this time and after the second scrutiny, the administration of the “tithe” is entrusted uncontrollably to the Catechists, in a way which does not happen in any prudently organized association. As in Genesis, only the craftiest of God’s creation can come up with this kind of racket. The Three on the Hill have been beguiled, and we are helping them with our donations.

Just listen to his blatant defense of the Neo and that they are in the right. Listen to https://soundcloud.com/undecoverneo/archbishop-apuron-kolg-neocatechumenal-way

He fervently defended "The Way," with great passion. If he would only fight for us, the "regular Catholics" in even half the emotion he invests in explaining why the Neo Way is correct. The way he answered questions with snide remarks and disdainful tone. It is nothing short of disgusting.

Now lies, lies and more lies. They always have a counter-explanation as to why they did what they did and for whatever reason with LIES. Absolute power for the Archbishop will no longer fly with us!

Like a patient diagnosed with cancer, the cancer must be cut out immediately and removed. Our chemo would be the time and effort it would take to make the people trust the Church leadership again. We have got to get these people out, the Archbishop, Quitugua, Cristobal, Pius and all of the Neos before our Church can truly heal!
