MONEY AND THE NCW

More evidence of the grave danger this Archdiocese has been put in by its own bishop. These aren't just personal ramblings of stupid people. This is repetition of what they have been told and taught by Archbishop Apuron, Fr. Pius, and the whole alternative hierarchy of the Neocatechumenal Way. But as usual, we appreciate the opportunities these poor people give us to tell you the truth. So let's proceed:

Art. 1, §3 of the Statute of the Neocatechumenal Way states that the NCW is "endowed with a public juridical personality." What does this mean? According to church law, there are three types of persons: physical, moral, and juridic. The NCW is a juridic person. A juridic person is "like a civil-law corporation", and can "own property, enter into contracts, sue or be sued." (1). The reason canon law does not use the term "corporation" is because the term "corporation" is not used universally. (2)
(1) John P. Beal, James A. Coriden, Thomas J. Green. New Commentary on the Code of Canon Law. New York. Paulist Press. Pg. 155
(2)  Francis G. Morissey, OMI. Juridic Persons: A Practical Guide

Art. 4 § 1 makes it clear that insofar as the NCW is an "itinerary of Catholic formation...it has no material goods of its own." But because the NCW is also a "juridic person", Art. 4 § 2 goes on to clarify:
When in a diocese it is considered useful to financially support initiatives and activities for the evangelization realized through the Neocatechumenal Way, the diocesan bishop, at the request of the International Responsible Team of the Way, will consider the suitability of erecting an autonomous diocesan foundation, with juridical personality, regulated by its own statutes, which will also be recognized by the civil authorities. This may also be supported by oblatory donations made by participants in the Neocatechumenal Way, as well as by foundations and other individuals.
In addition, § 3, states:
In the communities, collections are made to answer different needs. It is the task of the responsible team of the community and of the responsible teams of the Way at every level, to ensure that such collections are administered with a great sense of responsibility and respect for the law.
So let's interpret all this. The Church is saying that in regards to funding activities the NCW should erect an autonomous foundation which is recognized by civil authorities. In other words, they are to do what almost every other Catholic organization does: register and regulate itself, and institute a system of financial accountability. (On Guam and in the U.S., this would be a non-profit corporation.) And, as per § 3, even prior to or in the absence of an "autonomous foundation", the money collected at the community level must still "respect the law."

And what law would that be?

So long as the NCW operates under the auspices of the parish, it is the parish itself that is covered by the civil law which grants financial autonomy to churches. Thus, every dime and dollar moved within the context of any gathering or activity of the NCW is subject to the same accounting requirements of the parish as is every other dime and dollar. And in this regard, it is the parish pastor who MUST see to it that those funds are accounted for the same as it is his duty to see to the handling of any other monies or collections.

Back to § 2, the Church doesn't actually say "should". Instead it says "useful". As usual, the Church does not dictate provincial matters, but leaves these kinds of things to the sense of ethics and propriety of the diocesan leadership. (Do you see the problem?)

The reason this section is included in the Statute is specifically to protect the NCW from the criticism of financial obfuscation that this NCW post is protesting against. Yet, rather than embrace the safeguards the Church has given it for its own protection and growth, they vomit and spit.

Here's some more of their ignorance on display:

Hmmm. So we see that only NCW have large families and understand Providence. Right!

Obviously, once again, they take Fr. Pius' word for everything when they have a duty to the Church itself to know exactly what the Church has constituted it to do, and NOT just take the word of people who use them. They are certainly welcome to remain stupid if they wish, but they are not welcome to make up facts that are contrary to what the Church has stated.

And then there's the matter of "Benavente wanted to sell it to pay for his debts". Obviously this is coming from Archbishop Apuron since he has been heard to say this on several occasions. And it is more evidence of the lies he is willing to tell to slander and hurt his own priests.

Msgr. James had no authority to sell anything thus Msgr. James could never have even have tried to sell anything. The only thing Msgr. James did was vote (and just one vote of five) to NOT transfer the title of the Yona property, a property of the Archdiocese of Agana, to RMS, a corporation separate from the Archdiocese of Agana.

So more slandering of Msgr. James. How sad for a bishop to do to his own priest. And how DANGEROUS for his soul.

  1. Our hard earned money is supposedly evil in the eyes of the NCW. When it is time to make a donation to their cause it becomes a blessing and no longer considered evil! So long as the $$$$ comes their way it is okay, nothing evil about it. Once we begin to use our money for out personal use then it becomes evil.

We may as well give up everything and all revert to living of the land like the Israelites. Not a bad idea....MCW members you can farm the land, make wheat for the bread, grow grapes to make wine, and the sort. Give up the aircon RMS and actually live the life of the CHRISTIANS in the olden days. Turn in your cars and walk the long journey like the apostles did. Give it all up and quit asking. No need to pay for power or the sort. Don't undertand just what you people want.

Diana why don't you be the first to give up all your possessions and live in a made shift shack without power or water. Maybe you can find a well to draw your water from. Farm and live of the land. You folks can't have your cake and eat it at the same time.

  2. The Statutes stated: The Neocatechumenal Way, endowed with public juridical personality,2 is composed of an ensemble of spiritual goods:3

There is a footnote (2) explaining what juridical personality means as well as spiritual goods. According to footnote 2: 2 See PONTIFICAL COUNCIL FOR THE LAITY, Decree, October 28, 2004 (Prot. N. 1761/04 AIC-110).

I think you would have to look up that document. It should explain what juridical personality means.

    1. It's a common term. Defined as per footnote 1.

    2. Juridical personality is what it means in legal terms, not what anyone tries to lie about its meaning, including Fr Pius. Who is Fr Pius to me, anyway?! I don't see any reason to take anything he says as coming from someone with authority. He might be one for the local NeoCat but not for me!

Possessions of a juridical personality cannot be restricted to "spiritual goods" which is completely undefined by any law. This curious language from the NeoCat is just like throwing dust into your eyes to make you blind. Who would fall for it? Yes, NeoCat disposes over tremendous funds and material properties that they use for their own purposes excluding other members of the Catholic Church.

AS NeoCat has no decent accounting practices, it causes great damages including monetary loss to parishes that allow it to operate on their premises. When NeoCat members place their donation to the NeoCat trash bag, they effectively take it away and out of the parish' resources, deflect it for their NeoCat purposes, excluding any possibility of sharing with others.

  4. Forgive the levity, but I can only assume this "Providence" is located somewhere up yonder in the NorthEastern part of the Mainland.. Rhode Island, because, I have read the definition for the "Neocategory: is a classification used by Neocats to divide a community into us and them." Thus the Providence to which the neocat refers to can only be a physical place, and not of the divine.

  5. So how is the parish pastor supposed to ensure that there are proper accounting practices during their gatherings? The pastor of Yigo doesn't participate in their get togethers, where they put money in trash bags and take it out of the room to "count" it, then come back and tell you it's not enough? How do I know you just didn't take out a fistful and put it in your pocket?
I asked him straight up, and he said they don't contribute to the parish at all, yet they use the facilities twice a week (with A/C), have keys to the place, disrupt our liturgies with their "invitations" all because "the bishop said to accommodate them"? Meanwhile every other lay group in the parish regularly contributes to the parish, if for nothing more than to help with the bills. These guys are a joke.
If they feel that we are "dry bones" and spiritually dead, then get the @*#*#k out and go make your own church! What they really are, are leeches!
They need to take to heart last Sunday's second reading from Paul... "Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves" Sorry to say, they are not of the same mind and heart as the Roman Catholic Church.

  6. Tim, thank you, thank you, thank you! As you already may have guessed, I am walking in the Neo Way but there are just so many things going on that defies common sense. The person who does the Diana blog is delusional. The biggest red flag I see in the way is that there are so many responsibles and coresponsibles with self confidence and self respect issues who exert control over other member's lives. The verbal and psychological abuse I see is real. It kills me to see the arrogance and self-righteousness they display over other members who allow them to publicly degrade them for the sake of obedience. I would leave the way but I have to do it slowly, they know too much about my life and will stop at nothing to make my life miserable if I just up and quit. Just wanted to thank you for making public all I found out about them but didn't know how to let others know. If anyone is reading this, RUN FAR AWAY from these NeoKats.....they are anything but GOOD and will ruin you, your lives, and your parishes.

    3. My dearest anon@6:32AM. (1) I am in the way soon to be out of the way (2) Who's really being persecuted here? I think it's the one who has been honest from the get go and the same one who doesn't hide behind an anonymous facade, such as, oh I don't know, "DIANA" maybe? (3) To pray with your heart full of hate for Tim means maybe God doesn't hear your prayer....you must reconcile w/your brother first before you present your prayers and offerings before God. Seems to me you haven't reconciled yet. (4) Most importantly, why are you playing in the jungle? Weren't you told not to by your catechists? OBEY and GO AWAY!

    5. What about the poor of Guam, the homeless, those without food living in shelters.. what is the neo doing for the poor? Nothing. They take our island money which we could use for the increasing poverty of our own people. They take our money and send off island. Yes they use our resources, which should be used for our own blood and service to the church.

    6. What have you done for the poor? Are you making false accusations again? You can not claim that we do nothing because we do. It may not be as a group but individually. I thought this is a universal Church, not just a Guam Church...

  11. Homeless people live on the streets in Guam, increasing poverty, little food , neo clergy live like kings spending our money , and sending our money off island. No concern for the poor . Only one concern of the neo to take money of this community and spend on the cult. And poverty and neglect of the poor continue to grow.
